I was one of the first customers of Nochex, approximately 13 years ago, even before Nochex processed credit cards, when it was an account based payment system. When they started processing credit cards they approached me to use Nochex for debit and later credit card payments. Nochex has not been a success story in any form for us. Although more popular 10 years ago, in recent years our clients have only used Nochex for payment on average once or twice a month. PayPal is now the most popular... (read more)

Addendum to the above. It took several phone calls and emails to get any response from Nochex. It took 6 weeks for them eventually to send me the money they owed me. I feared that I had lost it forever. I did finally get an explanation after writing to the managing director. They were accusing me of altering what I was selling on the website and adding items they didn't approve of. This was rubbish! The website was primarily the same as when they accepted my business a few months earlier with some small additions and a number of discontinued items. They don't deserve anyone's business.

Hello, I work for Nochex and would like to correct the misinformation in this review.
Nochex ask the buyer to contact the seller in the first instance. If the buyer cannot resolve the issue then Nochex will contact the seller on the buyer's behalf. If we do not achieve a resolution after our first contact we escalate this to our Risk team who contact the seller. If the seller does not resolve the problem we may suspend activity on the account until such time as the problem is resolved.
I am sorry the reviewer was unable to raise a ticket, but if they would like try again we will certainly investigate their complaint.

I had used Nochex for a purchase a number of years ago in which I got ripped off. Nochex refused to help. Back then they had a public forum in which I created as much fuss as possible. Hi,

We feel it only fair to clear up on some of the points mentioned in your review of Nochex:

If an instance arises where we are forced to terminate the contract we have with a merchant, in some cases the balance of their account may not be returned immediately. Not all account closures result in the funds being held by Nochex however. We may have to retain funds from closed accounts for a period of time (usually 180 days from the last transaction) and this follows standard industry practise, and again is set out in the standard merchant terms. Money is held back in these instances to cover commercial risks, for example; to cover any refunds and chargebacks that may occur during that period.

Hi DJelly,

I am sorry you have had some problems, and we appreciate you bringing the problem to our attention.

While 99.9% of the merchants who use Nochex to accept payments are reliable and honest, in a very small number of cases we may find merchants who are working outside of our Acceptable Use Policy or who we may believe are acting outside the law. We check all our accounts rigorously and on a regular basis to ensure that this does not happen, however if we do find something that is of concern we will be forced to take immediate action.

As with all payment processors and financial services companies, we comply with UK law and work within the regulations laid out by our governing bodies. This may mean that in some instances an account will be shut down, sometimes without warning. All our merchants are checked on application and we agree to process payments for them based on what we see and understand their business to be doing, if however a merchant makes significant changes to their service or product range after being approved by Nochex, which results in the merchant working either outside of our AUP, or outside of UK law, then we have no choice but to terminate the contract we have with that merchant.

General Disputes between Buyer and Seller:

Nochex takes disputes between buyers and sellers very seriously. Most consumers' purchases go to plan, however in a small number of instances a problem may arise as it seems it has in this instance. If you do not receive your goods or are not satisfied with the item or service provided we advise that you should contact the merchant from which you purchased the item in the first instance. Nochex are not involved in the fulfilment of your order and therefore it is often quickest and easiest to talk to the merchant directly.

If after contacting the merchant you are still not able to resolve the problem, you can of course contact us. We provide a telephone number for consumers - it is listed on your credit or debit card statement. Alternatively you can submit a ticket via our website and we will respond within 48 hours (Mon-Fri).

Nochex aim to work with our merchants to provide a safe environment to buy online. We will intervene and liaise with the merchant on your behalf to resolve the matter. We do take complaints very seriously and will do what we can to remedy the situation. Nine times out of ten this intervention will solve the dispute however if we cannot come to a mutually acceptable conclusion then you do have the right to escalate the dispute further - where you escalate the problem to very much depends on the exact nature of your individual dispute.

Many thanks
