Good Points: Superb dialogue matched with well drawn, three-dimensional characters who all felt so real we forgot they were actors. The fast paced filming style made it feel very 'now'.

Bad Points: The DVD release doesn't include any 'extras'. Some behind-the-scenes info, or even a couple of commentaries would have been good.

General comments: An uncompromising look at life in the 1990s as seen through the eyes of a group of twenty-somethings trying to make their way in the world. The show didn't hold back, didn't moralize and didn't offer any easy answers. At times quite brutal, at times overly subtle, but always honest and unflinching, This Life was one of the most potent TV dramas not just of the 90s but of all time.

The final episode, broadcast in August 1997, literally packed a punch and left 5 million viewers wanting more.

A follow-up reunion episode in 2007 showed us what had become of the characters a decade on. Fun and nostalgic, but lacking the raw energy that had made the previous two series such a cult success.
