“Fantastic couch if you can find it second hand”

★★★★★

written by Martin307 on 18/07/2014

Let me just say up front, I got my couch second hand at a local thrift store, so my review is from it already being second hand and having no idea where it has been and who the previous owner is. Oh yea...I'm from the other side of the pond. Someone must have ordered this and had it shipped over to the U.S. I got my couch dirt cheap because it had some light cat scratches on it. This is the softest leather I have ever felt in a couch. The frame is extremely solid andthe couch is heavy and buit like a tank. Solid wood legs, nice thickly padded built in seat cushions and back. You literally sink into this thing. I would never have considered or been able to afford this had I not found it used, so I'm not going to remark on the brand new cost of these, as that doesn't apply to me. All I know is the construction is fantastic in every way. I must have one of the couches that was made before they moved over to china. As mine had animal scratches on it, they ate obviously not totally impervious to that, but what leather couch is. Bottom line, if you could get your hands on one of theolder couches, I would totally go for it. Seems like the new couches have quality control issues, based on other reviews, and I would probably steer clear of them. Sorry, but I wasn't able to figure out which model I have. Mine is black brown, three seater, with dark wood stained legs. Kind of a lower profile contemporary look. Definatel over stuffed back.

“brilliant”

★★★★★

written by SADIEANDROXIE on 25/05/2014

we purchased our calia suite 12 years ago and I have not seen anything better or more comfy and the leather has improved with age. It just looks as new as the day it was delivered. It is still modern after all this time. I would recommend this, although at the time it seemed a lot of money it has been so worth what we paid.

We bought in 2000 a 2 & 3 seat couch, they have been moved to three different homes and have had two dogs on them the last four years. I love these I was thinking about replacing them but it seems that they might of changed how they make their products as I see lots of bad reviews. I guess you csn say it took me 10 years to write this review but I will say If I can find this brand with the quality I found before I'd buy them right away I think we pais around 3k each.

I bought a 2 seater and 2.5 seater brown leather lounge 4 years aga and am very happy with the quality, comfort and look of them. They have been well used and show no deterioration. I look after them with leather cleaning and conditioning produscts and expect to get more years good use from them. Perhaps, like cars, you can get a 'lemon', but my experience has been very positive.

We purchased a calia leather couch (2 seater and 3 seater) "catherine" style in 2001, and keep thinking when should clean or condition it, but have done nothing to it - apart from cleaning up what the kids have split on it. We still think it looks good and went shopping today for another couch but were disappointed that Nick Scali now import everything from China. Disappointing to hear the other reviews but our experience was very different.

Tip - put your hand down the back of the seat to see if the couch manufacturer cuts costs and uses material where they don't think you'll not the leather.

“Around 4 years ago, we purchased a Calia Italia sofa...”

★★★★★

written by nmilton on 25/04/2009

Around 4 years ago, we purchased a Calia Italia sofa and 2 arm chairs with black, natural tanned, non-coated leather which we believed would retain it's natural appearance, touch and texture better than coated leathers. We follow the same strategy with our shoes, selecting natural leathers to ensure perfect breathability, and concluded the same philosophy was best with the furniture.

It took a long time to find a manufacturer who offered quality natural uncoated leather rather than the normal coated leathers offered by ther majority of manufacturers. We thought that natural leather would allow the leather to stretch and break in a natural way without the manmade coatings splitting, and allow the furniture to be sat upon without the manmade polyurethane coatings rubbing off as happened to our previous sofa.

We have since moved houses and the furniture was put into store for four months, with the sofa standing on its end in the storage crate. The sofa is incredibly heavy and was dropped by the removal company when delivered to our new home.

We are very happy with our investment. The leather has retained all of it's original appearance, the break lines are natural, the surface texture as new, the cushions stretched an natural. The sofa is totally unscaved from it's harsh life. As things stand, it is unlikely that we shall need to change our sofa and chairs for at least another 5 years, and hopefully not in our lifetime. The foams are confortable, and as new. The straps are showing no signs of collapsing.

A great product.

I image an electric recliner armchair from Calia and it has started making a constant noise (like an alarm); the only way I can get it to stop is to press and hold the button in for adjusting the chair to the fully upright position. What can I do to stop this noise?
