Horrible product! Worst problems- plastic bits keep breaking off. I have replaced the hose once and now the dust container won't come out because the plastic clip that locks it in place is broken off. Vacuum is now useless. Very messy job to clean the filter. I usually tap it against the step outside and clouds of dust fly in your face. I bought it because the idea of saving money on vacuum bags appealed to me - never again! I think the position of the retractable power cord is a design... (read more)

This machine is destined for the tip! Have persevered with it for more than a year. Now fed up with emptying the fiddly dust container every five minutes and dealing with a filter that has been specifically designed to clog up and to take at least an hour to clean. This machine is incapable of actually cleaning anything efficiently and even struggles with a cobweb! Don't do what I did and buy it because it is a Vax - read the reviews first, then avoid it like the plague. It will drive you... (read more)

Absolutely rubbish. Had problems with it since we bought it. Hardly picks up dirt, filters have to be cleaned every time I use it and even then the cleaning power doesn't improve. has a 5 year guarantee, but apparently that doesn't mean much because I'm having a war with them just to get them to check the machine.
According to their customer services, this is their best machine, and apparently they have no problems with it from customers! would hate to see their worst machine if this is...

the claener is very good, the only problem is the hose clips break easily and you can't replace them, resulting in having to buy a hose at over £20 per time to replace a small plastic clip. have spoken to Vax about it, they don't want to know (read more)

This is the worse vacuum ever, the first time I used it was great but from then on has got worse, it takes twice as long to vacuum a room (I should have kept with Henry) its useless, heavy, gets hot, has to be emptied regularly to keep any suction up. I am now looking for a new vacuum even though this is only two years old. (read more)

Absolutely rubbish. On first use this hoover seems very good and powerfull but don't be fooled, within 2 uses the filter will be clogged and it will have lost virtually all suction. The filter is constantly blocked and a nightmare to clean. (read more)

The filter is terrible, constantly having to clean it out, wash it then wait for it to dry. So i tend to have two on the go, one in the wash and one in the machine. Suction last one hoover of the downstairs and only ever totally gets all the hairs off the carpet when the filter is brand new.
Would not recommend this to anyone. Filters aren't cheap either, by two new ones nearly every month and a half!!!

Dissapointed in our Vax vo91. Hoover gets very hot after hoovering with it for only a short time, so I keep switching it off to give it time to cool down. When we first purchased the cleaner I thought that the suction was good, but I have noticed for some time now that it has lost the strong suction, and is'nt picking up enough. The hoover pipe has just split at the end and my husband has had to mend it.This is my first Vax hoover, and I wont buy Vax again due to being dissapointed with it. (read more)

i went for the vax v-091ps cylinder cleaner. used on and off for approx 3 months, (12 month warranty) found it to be getting very hot, loud, and failing to pick up.
returned it to argos today to be told that the argos rep would have to speak to a vax rep before he could rectify.
while he was on the phone with the cleaner running he completed a full parts filter and tube check. still no joy.
then the argos rep repeated to me what he was told by the vax rep, which was that, vax had found that...

My VAX V-091 looks nice but obviously has some design issues. It can't maintain its power. Others have obviously found this too when I see these reviews.
There is a sticker on the machine saying - don't send it back to the shop, call us (did they expect me to send it back?). I called VAX. They suggested I send it back to them for repair.
Since it was new I returned it to Comet for a refund. We had a cheap Philips vacuum for 10 years which did the job much better.

I bought this VAX V-091 Performance as my mother had had a vax for years, so thought i was buying a good value product. I have been so disappointed with my purchase. The shape of the hoover means it gets stuck on chair legs, sofas and door frames. The poor quality hose is too bend and now has unravelled from the handle, meaning it is broken after 1 year.

I chose the VAX V-091. My husband uses it and moans every time!! It's poorly designed, heavy, difficult to store. Not particulary good suction. One of the worst choices I've ever made. My advice: DON'T BUY THIS MODEL. In fact, it's put us off every buying anything with VAX on it. (read more)

Do not buy the VAX V-091 Performance, I guarantee you, you will waste your money and will look for a replacment immediately. The plug cord is too short, it has lost it suction after 1 month, and yes I have emptied the cylinder and checked everything else, there is a flap on one of the floor tiles (I think it is the one for pet hairs) that you can undo to get rid of the hair caught around, that has broken off, the hose is loose that connects to the other part of the hose easily comes off so as you are hoovering back and forth the hose comes off also the air vents blows baking hot air on my legs/feet whilst hoovering. We bought one of these as it was announced as perfect for pet hairs. Well it seems VAX have made massive design errors with this one. Firstly, why on earth is there a very basic pleated paper type filter slap bang in the centre of its dust bowl? As other reviewers have remarked - this filter very rapidly gets clogged with detritus of all sizes, (PARTICULARLY PET HAIRS!!!!!) therefore very effectively 'strangling' this 'vacuum' cleaner(?)!!!!!
Cleaning the filter is a nightare as dust and...

I've got a VAX V-091 Performance, the suction power decreases after 1 or 2 uses after vacuuming an average size through lounge ! Not impressed with this item at all. You have to manually clean the central filter after each use to keep up the suction. I feel there is a major design fault in that there is no housing on the filter so absolutely everything you vacuum goes directly to the filter, big and small pieces alike. Just started using it and realised the fault have contacted vax via their... (read more)

This VAX V-091 is the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and I would advise buyers to look elsewhere. You will spend as long emptying/cleaning it as you will vacuuming. A very messy process and not to be undertaken if you have allergies. Another design fault is that the cable/plug is at the side rather than the back so it is awkward to move around. Suction is poor at all times other than immediately after the filter has been cleaned. It is arguable whether this model is 'fit for purpose'... (read more)

I agree with this review because... it's true. I found exactly the same thing. After a few weeks the filter was dirty, hard to clean and then the plastic warped making the machine useless. Informed this is what the vax will do to a dirty filter, my fault - must buy a new filter for 10.99, but, they had run out! Pathetic

This is a very high maintenance vacuum cleaner and I am only sorry I bought it but I have been a VAX fan for 20 years, am a pet owner and thought I couldn't go wrong with this seemingly powerful cleaner. It has disappointed me thoroughly because I spend more time emptying it and tapping the filter clean than hoovering. VAX customer services told me that the filter does indeed require cleaning (and washing) regularly, typically after each use and if you have a big house during a clean! I have... (read more)

We have had number of vacuum cleaners over last few years, and a few months ago we had to make a choice again. Our budget was around £100, and we wanted the best of all. The ultimate machine that will last. We went to local shops and found nothing that even looked the part.
I was looking for something that would pass my shelf test. How is it working; in the shop I take machine of the shelf and lay it on the floor, that's my first test; I know if it's manageable or not. While on the floor, I...

Purchased one of these in Nov 2007, the hose keeps coming out, and now the actual hose is falling apart, a few bracket parts have come off, and am very disappointed with it indeed.
I will not recommend this item to anyone, they are hard work, slowly going off VAX makes, yet my older Vax I had for many years but were not available in the stores when I desperately needed one.
So here's hoping there will be no quabbles with the parts of this one now !!
