How I wish my parents had read the reviews about this company beforehand! They live in Canada. Booked easily and were greeted at Heathrow. However, on the drive up to Liverpool they realised the heaters, air conditioner and window demister was not working on the car. Also, the ABS warning light kept coming on along with a dashboard light not working. service good and car is excellent, but calling to make the booking is a pain long wait caller 38 in queue with wait of 28 mins obviously have something right as i needed to book the car as over £1000 cheaper than hertz for a small auto, and it was just as good if not better, my only niggle would be call centre takes some time to get through best booking online (read more)

we hired a car from atlaschoice and ended up on bus for 40mins had to pay 8.00 each as well, and was refused a car from atlas, we then went back to airport and did internet search and come up with car-hire-uk, so helpful and friendly, they gave us a car in less than 20mins and upgraded us to brand new ford focus lovelly car really nice to drive, could not fault them so helpful, and no bus collected in the terminal really recommend them, (read more)

Yes, the meet and greet is fantastic but a quick search on google ( bbc and the guardian have both run articles) will show just how crooked this company is. The company blatantly refuses to pay back deposits and they won't respond to your emails. Should you call them, you will be fobbed off with one excuse after another. So sorry to hear you too have fallen into the same trap. You need to call trading standards who will put you through to the Citezens Advice Bureau who will then file an official complaint with trading standards... It's a bit of a run around but since you can't call the CAB from outside the UK and they have to make the 'official' complaint, it's the only way. Hope you get positive results... Please also immediately open a dispute with your credit card provider and write to Bbc's money box, watchdog and Skynews UK. And of course, warn all your friends.

I also am having the same issue thankfully I took out the addition CDW with reduced my deposit to 75.00 GBP for the car with 70.00 GBP for the fuel. So I am trying to get 145.00 GBP which had I not taken the additional insurance would have been 570.00 GBP.
The thing that is very telling with the benefit of hindsight is you have no idea they will proactively take these funds at the time of ordering. When I phoned to take issue I was directed to a secondary page on the site which tells you they will. I believe a company with integrity would show at order confirmation the total value of the funds they are going to take from your credit inclusive of deposits.

I have the same issue. I'm in Canada.
I needed to return to the UK to a family situation and at short notice.
I trusted trip advisor who actively advertised this company to me and since the price was competitive and the meet and greet was a fair price and got me on my way immediately I went with this company.
They owe me $1064 Canadian dollars or 665 UK Sterling they have not refunded.
Not only did they do this but their employees exposed my personal details on an email list along with hundreds of others.
I am now worried for the use they will be putting the photo'd copies of my credit card and drivers license.
I'm fuming and starting to look at legal proceedings myself.

so happy to recommend this company, we hired for 4 months for only £8.00 day for a brand new car all inclusive, we didnt buy the car rental excess cover we took the 49.00 annual one, and didnt have no problems but always take precautions as you never know what sod will drive into you!, dealt with jess who was lovely so helpful and kind, and we didnt need to ask twice, looking forward to my next holiday now (read more)

Who said anything about parking fines and damaged vehicles? How do YOU know what happened to other peoples cars? One would only have to read the comments from the other 50 people on this site to realise! Simple matter is they have withheld deposits from a lot of overseas consumers because they think they can get away with it. They don't reply to emails, and they fob you off with a load of nonsense when you call them. All of which is clearly documented on the Internet.

You've had exactly the same experience we had two years ago. Nobody to return the car to, nobody to contact, and no deposit refund! Even though I followed their parking instructions to the letter, I had to drag them halfway to court before they just credited my card with the deposit without even contacting me. That was 8 months after I'd hired the car. If I hadn't had a close relative to undertake the legal strong-arm stuff free of charge, I'd have probably had to just just written off the 570quid. It's a wonder that they're still operating.

good service, and upgraded to the new Mercedes A class, really nice little car loved the GPS with speed warnings which good shame it didnt notify of the dreaded congestion charge we ended up with fine, caused a few problems on return however it was sorted quickly and car hire helped me file a defence so didnt have to pay the penalty, nice company and really good car. We hired a car from this company in June 2012, we are now in a massive legal row over the deposit, which they first overcharged. We had paid a premium to reduce excess and deposit and we were charged the regular deposit, stating that because it was a Saturday, it would be credited back on the Monday - this was 5 months ago. The car I chose was reduced. this price showed right through, plus the CDW which was the only amount I authorised as a debit. Expected the insurance and fuel deposit to be blocked, but no........... debited the account for it all, plus the original price for the car PLUS a mysterious miscellaneous amount of 22.19 GBP. Had a dozen emails before I had the car but now they seem unable to reply.
Bizzare mentality though... I would have used their service 4+ times annually and recommended to others. Honestly, they have lost more than they were able to FRAUDULENTLY TAKE from me!

The modus operandi of this company appears to be to take the deposit and never return it back. I struggled to get it back and ultimately it was my credit card company which reversed the transaction. We hire a car from them in June, which we returned in July. They charged us an extra 680 pounds for the fuel and excess deposits but also charged the full booking amount of the booking + another 680 pounds on my wife credit card when she collected the car. After reading the comments here I cannot belive I used the same company. I live and work in Indonesia and booked online for a Heathrow pick-up meet and greet. Everything was spot on. I walked to the car park with the guy who greeted me at arrivals. Hey please keep chasing your bank. Make sure you told them the "insurance charge" from the internet is not with your consent. Which means it is illegal. Your bank will be able to revert it back to your account. That's how i did it.

This is a common theme, returned car to Heathrow 23rd June, fuelled up and undamaged, and still waiting for deposit or even any form of communication from them. The car itself was ok, fairly new and no breakdowns or problems, so ok on that score, but the total lack of information since has been appalling. I had similar story....expected return of 680GBP end September. Instead was sent accident claim form for unsubstantiated damage to vehicle and quotation for repair dated the day before vehicle was returned. J Palmer thereafter justified by stating that computer records showed I had returned car one day late.
reported to Trading Standards who advised investigation was already underway ( but how long to carry out these investigations while Car-Hire-UK continue to perpetrate this??)
After sending a registered letter which was never formally responded to, and 5 months of persistent calls and emails on a daily basis, my bank finally stepped up when Car Hire UK resorted to excuse that my bank was causing problems with recrediting money to my account....
I had sent copy of the regsitered letter to Card Dispute centre and once Car Hire UK started blaming the bank, I copied them in on all correspondence which was almost on a daily basis.
Finally, the bank sent 2 letters to Car Hire UK merchant bank and received no satisfactory response from them and I was advised two weeks ago that my bank had charged the entire amount back to my credit card.
This took seven months of dogged persistent emails and telephone calls ( I am fortunate to have an internet telephone so calling overseas was covered by my monthly call subscription, otherwise iwould have racked up hundreds of dollars of call time "on hold' alone waiting to be put through to people who were never there or who responded with what I feel were blatant lies and evasion.
Persist with your credit card company to charge back and keep them copied on all correspondence and forward them links to this and other forums highlighting the problems.
Thankful this is over..never again....and hopeful that all others will succeed in having their money returned at the earliest.

They don't refund the deposit to overseas customers. I have had exactly the same experience as many others. I booked a vehicle in October 2011 and they immediately process both the rental fee and deposit fee on the date of booking. Yep, I wouldn't recommend this crew. They'll try and steal your deposit.In the end I had to get my sister, who is a solicitor, to threaten through her firm's offices via registered letter that if I wasn't paid within 14 days, court proceedings would be issued without further notice (which they would have been!). By far the worst company I have ever dealt with. They took our 690 pounds deposit 1 month before we collected the car without authorisation and then we were given an old car which had faulty AC and the power steering stopped working after one day. I have found this company done same scam since 2009 because no one has shut them down. If you are two weeks post car return and have not returned your deposits go straight to your credit card company. I am one of those who got back the deposits after about 4-5 weeks less fuel surcharge though i had return the car full tank. That was way back in 2008. I did report to Bromley Trading Standards before i get my deposit back but I think they just said the company were on the way to return my deposit and so did nothing to help. As most of us are from overseas, it is difficult for us to shut them down. Unless the website hosting their service is willing to do that.

Car Hire UK took a fuel deposit and security bond of 670 pounds off my credit card without my knowledge at the same time that we paid for the hire. They refused to give us a refund and said that taking the bond off early is normal practice (it is actually in the fine print in the terms and conditions of their hire). Hired a C3 for 13 days from Gatwick. They put the 670 pound fuel and security deposit on my credit card company without authorisation as they had my details from the booking. Was met punctually at airport but returning was not so convenient. Then the 'fun' started. As a cyclist had run into the car and caused a small dent, we expected a delay in finalising the details. £1100 fuel and insurance deposit, 8 months later I am still awaiting the return of both. How exactly are we supposed to get our money back? Well the best option is to query the charges with your credit card company if the deposit is not paid back within 20 days, but remember you only have 120 days to utilise this claim route or the credit card company cannot do anything about it. I finally got my deposit back 9 months later - but only after I got my sister in who is a solicitor in the UK to threaten them with court proceedings through her firm. If I hadn't been lucky enough to have a relative in the legal trade, I'd still be wasting time and money contacting them and being fobbed off. If you're outside the UK, they just ignore you.Good luck anyway.
