Good Points: Gritty, more realistic interpretation of Bond.Very impresisve action scenes & stunts.Excellent supporting cast.
Bad Points: Decidedly "different" than anything seen before in the films - film fans may feel lost & confused. No Moneypenny or Q...?
General comments: Casino Royal represents a "reboot" of the James Bond film franchise. It had started to go a bit wayward with diamond-studded villains, DNA re-written by some nutcase, villains who can't feel pain and one who "creates" news headlines so he can get an exclusive story. The film starts at the beginning, where a seemingly emotionally retarded MI6 field agent called James Bond earns his "00" licence following a successful assassination op where 2 targets are dispatched cleanly and without repercussions. He then finds himself pulled into the "war on terror" by being assigned to go against a terrorism financier at the "Casino Royale" and turning him into a double-agent.I'm a big fan of the films, so I admit I wasn't sure about Daniel Craig. He was good in films like "The Glass House" but I couldn't imagine him as 007.Thankfully I was wrong. Craig's interpretation of Bond is probably the closest to Ian Fleming's book-based 007. Withdrawn emotionally, not the womaniser of the films, less reliant on gadgets, and living by his own skill and wits. The film itself is pretty faithful to the original novel, just with some details updated and a few extra action scenes. The torture scene (which is not over-graphic, but makes viewers wince) is more believable than the "meeting of minds" that most other films favour. And at least after that, 007 doesn't just slacken his tie and keep going like Moore or Brosnan would have done. Also, the "gun-barrel" sequence at the beginning of each film is given an "explanation", as is the "Bond, James Bond" quote that so many have badly emulated with a faux-Edinburgh accent. As a die-hard Bond fan, I can say that other Bond fans are probably going to be impressed by this film. Just be aware that this marks a change in the atmosphere of the film series, albeit a positive one.

This film was brilliant and I think Daniel Craig really has the right to say "the name's Bond, James Bond!"- Read triviaman's review (68 words)

Casino Royale is highly recommended - Daniel Craig is superb as James Bond. This is one Bond movie where the stunts are believable, the plot is tight and acting is great.- Read exsousia1's review (47 words)

I have to admit I was never a huge Bond fan I watched them on TV and have always thought no one could ever supass Connery. I however have been proved wrong as Daniel Craig plays a more gritty, emotionless Bond.
The movie goes from a dark beginning of Bond getting his 00 license to a very intense chase scene using one of the best free runners in the world. I would rate this scene as one of the best chase scenes I have seen or can remember. The action then moves to more exotic locations and ...- Read cabUK's review (177 words)

Casino Royale takes itself way too seriously. Not many chances for a laugh. This is a Bond that suffers. He gets tortured, betrayed, makes tabloid headlines... That may be why women like the film -apart from the 6.5s scene where you get to see Daniel Craig's pectorals... The plot wants to be very serious too: we're talking terrorism money, saving all those lives! Very serious stuff... In a word, this film is ridiculous, even the baddy isn't in control of anything, he even gets wacked... Bond is ...- Read jefjefjef's review (107 words)

Wow! This Bond film has real integrity. Daniel Craig is spot on as Bond, and gets a believable character across on screen, even - dare I say it - overtaking Connery, the ultimate Bond. He is certainly as good as, and fits the role perfectly. Where Craig has the advantage is in an updated, well-written script, without the schoolboy humour, and without the naughty schoolboy antics with Q, who does not appear at all in this film. Nor does he have to contend with ridiculous gadgets, like exploding ...- Read Amanda Speedie's review (509 words)

Superb film, better than my expectations. Daniel Craig added his own unique style as Bond. More of an arrogant charmer than the usual suave sophisticate. Plenty of action to keep you glued right to the end which I must admit was unexpected. Only one thing lacking was we didn't have the usual show of gadgetry and the film concentrated more of the character which in my opinion wasn't a bad thing :-)- Read Karen2606's review (86 words)

I agree with the general consensus that although an utterly brilliant film in it's own right, I don't think Casino Royale really is a Bond movie.
Loads of people say that Craig is the best Bond ever etc but I would disagree. I think he plays the part of a person who is better than Bond, but he is not actually Bond.
Think about it, this guy is rough and ready, doesn't care about how his martini is prepared and doesn't have gadgets. This guy is not the best James Bond ever, he is an action hero ...- Read rds1's review (275 words)

What a fantastic film, not your usual clean-cut 007 which I actually kind of enjoyed. It made a totally different film, you almost forgot it had anything to do with James Bond. Daniel Craig comes across as quite attractive in this film and really shows his skills in acting. All in all a very moving and well-presented film!- Read carternm31's review (74 words and 3 comments)

A good film - but is it James Bond?
Daniel Craig has taken over the reins as the sixth actor to have a go at battling the James Bond formula. The result is an entertaining action movie but does it follow in the footsteps of other Bond movies? The new Bond is different. When he is asked if he wants his Martini "shaken or stirred" he answers "whatever." Its enough to make Sean Connery roll in his Versace bed.

Daniel Craig puts up a cool performance to silence the critics over his selection as 007.
Casino Royale takes the story of super spy James Bond back to his roots and promotion to 00. It tells the story of a filthy rich dealer, playing and hoping to win money to help pay for terrorists. How? Through one of Bond's specialities - Poker.
A large proportion of the film takes place in Serbia & Montenegro, known for its beautiful scenery. Bond, alongside the gorgeous Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Gree ...- Read UsmanKhan's review (337 words and 1 comment)

Being a great Bond fan from a early age, I have seen every single Bond movie, and yes I do remember the original Casino Royale with David Niven and Woody Allen (a fun movie, but never a true Bond movie). As we all know, everyone always says there has never been a better Bond than Sean, because of his rough no nonsense playing of the part. However, although early days, I think we may have found the true essence of a true spy in Daniel Craig. He plays the part with real man appeal, and a ruthlessn ...- Read mister z's review (227 words)

Overall, and without getting into the particulars if someone hasn't seen it, I found the first half of the film very entertaining up to where they cut the hole in the wicker chair for James to share his most agonizing moments to-date with the audience. There were some interesting twists after that, but most of the stuff that makes a Bond film were pretty much over by the halfway point when he was stripped and beaten.
The vulnerable, and often-accused male chauvinist Bond (although that one d ...- Read zperson's review (330 words)

I'm the first to admit that I didn't think I would enjoy this film. I went along to see it with some friends and was extremely surprised!
As others may do as well I tar all James Bond films with the same brush, however Casino Royal totally changed that! From start to finish I was on the edge of my seat, seeing this film at the cinema is a must!! It doesn't follow the same pattern as most Bond films do, it tells the story of how Bond becomes a 007 agent and how he becomes the way he does. It's ...- Read viking06's review (149 words)

Top film. If you are going with the wife/lady/girl, you'll walk away with some good brownie points. My good lady was not a Bond fan before, but Daniel Craig might as well have his photo on our mantelpiece, she's that impressed! Always a good sign when a non-Bond fan cannot stop talking about the Film whilst loving the Bond star.
I would definitely recommend Casino Royale!- Read dante187's review (120 words)

Daniel Craig has brought his own stamp to the James Bond genre. He is his own Bond, rather than trying to emulate any of his predecesors.
The action sequences are stunning and very well-filmed. There are surprises in store. On at least two occasions I jumped in my seat when something happened without warning. So often the background music 'warns' you of impending action. Not in this film! The plot is both up to date, dealing with terrorism, and historic, in that it tells the story of how Jame ...- Read jerry wilkins's review (304 words)

I thought this James Bond film differs from the others Ive seen, although it doesnt loose out on its extreme action scenes there seems to just be something about it that changes how Bond normally is, but I dont think this is nescarrily a bad thing, maybe even a good thing. I personnaly think its just been moderned which is what Bond needed I personnaly love this Bond film and would recommend it to anyone.- Read senzy's review (230 words)
