Having paid for 6 credits I was shocked to discover that I then got charge for the same searches that I had previously got for free. You pay not only for the information in the record you wish to view but also for the search that got you there. Worse in my case I searched for an address here in Belfast and it kept returning me details for Ellesmere Port. When I typed in the address again to check same result (and down yet another credit) The pre-purchase description is at best... (read more)

I should have been suspicious when I realized the published prices for 192.com searches are VAT exclusive: always the hallmark of a rubbish company. But I was keen to get address details for an entry I'd found (I'm searching for some old colleagues from long ago) so I paid up for 6 searches. Confidence trick no. 1: at the end of signing up step 3 was called 'see your own entry' (or similar) so I clicked on the button. Bang: that's one of my 6 paid searches gone. Boy, these 192 people... It's a rip-off as others have said. But did you know that the government has SOLD information in the "edited electoral roll" - this is the details of people who have NOT given their consent for their details to be made public. I've no idea how this is legal and I don't intend to shell out more money to find out. PUBLIC information in the electoral roll is being SOLD at rip-off prices (and you don't even get what you pay for), but, on top of that, either private information is being sold... (read more)

There are two versions of the Electoral Roll. The Full Version and the Edited Version. Since 2003 The Edited Version is the only one that is made available for the public domain by the local councils. Each year via the Register of Electors form individuals are given the option to 'opt off' the Edited Version; thus removing their details from the public domain.
Removal from the Edited Version of the Electoral Roll is not retrospective. Therefore if a record is removed in 2013 there may still be earlier years records available.

Free searches on 192.com are for Directory Enquiry searches only (telephone listings). As a registered user with no credits you are given 20 of these searches free per day. To retrieve a telephone listing you need to enter a name and an address or location. If we have any telephone matches for that search these will be displayed.
In some cases we may not have a telephone number match but what we do have is a name and address from the Edited Electoral Roll. To view Electoral Roll records you do need to purchase credits. Prior to purchase you can see what Electoral Roll year the record was from and other occupants, as this might help you decide on whether you want proceed with making a purchase.
Once credits have been bought and a user is signed in to their account, every search will cost a credit. More information about our data, how to use the site and most common questions can be found in our 'Help' pages.

Should have looked for a review first! You do a search, they tell you that they have the info you want, but you'll have to pay. You buy credits, then find that you need "Full credits" to see what you thought you were going to see. This costs more than twice as much as first payment, and if you bought 100 credits at £30 (so much cheaper per credit than 6 for £10) then the upgrade to full is £45... and you can't upgrade just a few credits... AVOID! (read more)

When you enter the purchase pages we clearly explain what is needed to view results. If the record you clicked on requires Full Access we will automatically select the Full Access level for you. If you deselect this option a warning message is shown to tell you that if you continue without it you will not be able to view the record you initially searched. As you were asked to pay for Full Access (£17.94) this would mean we didn't have a current Edited Electoral Roll record for the person you were looking for and that the results were from the archived Edited Electoral Rolls.

Full Access is required for Edited Electoral Roll information not found in the current Edited Electoral Roll (2013). Individuals have had the option since 2003 to 'Opt Off' the Edited Electoral Roll.
It sounds like the people you were looking for have 'Opted Off' so we do not have a current record for them, which is why you will have been prompted to upgrade your credits to Full Access.

I wish I had seen this BEFORE I have just gone and done the same thing.
First search gave partial information confirming that they had a record (The 'come-on'). I could not get more information without buying credits.
I paid for 100 credits for £35.94 inc. VAT
Tried to get more information from the original search.
Now advised that my 99 credits are useless unless I upgrade them for ANOTHER £45 (plus VAT, I expect). The 'Sting!'

It sounds like you landed on the 192.com Place pages, which is the one page where we don't include the Electoral Roll Years as part of the results shown.
Had you entered the site from the People pages or even typed in the address directly on 192, the results pages would have given you a door number and the Electoral Roll years as a guide. Credits are required to see the names and full address. Unfortunately prior to purchasing the credits based on the information you have given we would not have known whether the person you were looking for was the one shown in the results.

I paid £20 and all I got was 6 searches, I thought you would only pay a credit by clicking on more details but no, the rubbish website charges a credit every time you do a search, so I paid over £3 each time to get a list of names! Also, it has limited information (doesn't always have records on people and when it does it's barely anything) and you could probably find out more via google or facebook or ancestry. Please do not waste your money on this website. (read more)

Hi gingerbread1988,
We charge per search rather than per click into results as this gives you more value. For example, if the name you searched brought 200 matches up and we charged you per name you clicked on, you would need a lot more credits. Instead we take a credit per search (every time you press the search button).
The information isn't limited as long as you have the correct access level. Full Access will show you results from the last 10 years edited electoral rolls, telephone listings (not ex DQ) and Directors database. If a result isn't available this could be down to the fact that the person you are looking for has removed their information from the public record.

Contact us again quoting the 'reviewcentre' and I will look into the refund for you.

I paid £12.00 and was expecting a full address search result. I searched for a name that was already found with partial address details on google. 192.com produced the same result, but this time charged me from the credits i had purchased at £2.00 each. To get the full address requires yet another payment. Would not trust them to fulfill this without requiring more payments. Total con. Dont give them your money. AVOID AVOID !!! (read more)

This site is absolutely fantastic for finding all kinds of legal information but they need to recheck their pricing because it is a bit steep and moreover the pay should be one off instead of credits. (read more)

The data is not out of date. We have Edited Electoral Roll data going back to 2002 and have recently added the 2012 Edited Electoral Roll as well. If someone has removed themselves from the Edited Electoral Roll we may only have an older record for them.

Looking for a relatives address & phone number in the UK I found what looked to be a good match so registered & tried to buy credits for 9.95 but was told I also need to pay an extra 4.95, then they add vat for a grand total of 17.88 pounds, with my banks fee for a foreign transaction it would cost about $30 Australian, glad I found this site & the reviews before parting with the money. To search for a telephone number you need to enter a name and locality or postcode. This is the same for all Directory Enquiry services. If a number is not given it maybe ex directory or that the person you are searching for isn’t the bill payer, so the number isn’t listed in their name.
When signed in a credit is used per search. All our guides and tips on how to use 192.com can be found at http://www.192.com/help/help-home

These guys are crooks, plain and simple. They charge you huge fees and then do not provide the information promised. The searches return similar results but never an exact match prompting you to search again. Each search is charged (even if it is for exactly the same search term). I would go as far to say the search function is deliberately "hobbled" as Google links to a exact match on the 192.com site first time, tempting you to buy credits for further information. Once you have bought the... (read more)

The search function is not 'hobbled'. Based on the search entered we will return exact and close matches or of we don't have a match then no result will be shown. If you have been promted to pay £17.88 this will be because the results we have are in the archive section of the Edited Electoral Roll data (2002-2010). As you can see by the other reviews here, I am not the only one who thinks your service is a disgrace. If you put as much effort in to dealing with your customers complaints as you did justifying your joke company on review sites, everyone would be a lot happier. I got In the meantime you can look forward to a call from Trading Standards, go justify yourself to them.

When using 192.com many of the times I clicked I was told that I had to buy credits. I finally got near what I was looking for, so bought 6 credits for total of £11.94. I then had to get back to where I had been searching, and it said I needed to buy credits. I thought perhaps it hadn't registered properly yet, so tried again later. To get the same message. I then checked 'my account', adn it said I had zero credits left and had used 6. BUT...at no time did it say that they were taking a... (read more)

It sounds like the record you were clicking on was found in the 2002-2010 Electoral Roll. To view these you do need to have Extended Archive Access. This is explained as you enter the get credits page. If the record you are looking for needs EAA we by default tick the EAA option and inform you of the cost. If you remove this option and proceed we do warn you that you won't be able to see the result. Continuing with payment without EAA means you will only have access to the current Electoral Roll (2011) records. When signed in a credit is used everytime the search button is pressed. I purchased 10 extended searches to find someone. I entered the FULL name & address including post code, however 192.com said "sorry we cannot find that person try . . ". The information was correct and current and I was using it as a start point. After 3 further attempts lo & behold 192.com did find the person. 192.com classed this as 4 searches although the exact same info. was used for each search. THIS IS NOT VALUE FOR MONEY for users of the site. Be warned (read more)

Do not use it. I signed up to get someone's address to send them a surprise gift and when I paid the 18 pounds, I was told I couldn't acceess the information until I activated my account. After waiting more than one hour to receive my information, I realized it was all a fraud. Never received the activation code, although they charged my account. I had to close out my credit card to avoid additional fraud on their part, not to mention the possibility of them charging me continually. This is... (read more)

As most other directories and web apps like http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/free-reverse-phone-lookup this site provides free results for landline numbers but not for mobile listings. Taking into account that not a single site provides cell phone records for free, this site is a good service. Works only for UK numbers. (read more)
