Since digital nudge at start of november does not pick up main bbc channels (bbc1, bbc2, bbc news24) from winter hill transmitter.

That makes it pretty ineffectual for use now into the future.
Don't buy it second hand unless you really don't ever want to see anything on BBC1,2 News 24 tv.
Have 2 other boxes which work fine using same arial, testing TU-R160 for a friend.

Bought one of these machines 2yrs ago and it has served me well (certainly in comparrison to the new DVR's). Simple to use, easy menus to follow. Records one channel at a time but you can watch another (I think a lot of the problems with the more modern machines is when they try and record two chanels). Only a couple of minor snags with it:

The Sharp TU-R160H is not as good as you'd expect from Sharp. There are a lot of glitches - although this seems to be common problem with pvrs. My Sony did exactly the same.

Bought 4 of the Sharp TU-R160H machines as presents and have had to return 3 of them as they are riddled with faults - freezing up, not recording when programmed to do so, `phantom` recordings, switching recording days, the problems are too numerous and varied to mention as all these machines seem to have a mind of their own! Think Sharp should have perfected this model before unleashing it to the public, shame really because on the rare occasions they did work correctly the simplicity of use wo ...

The Sharp TU-R160H Personal Video Recorder has 160gb of recording memory and two digital tuners giving you the ability to record one channel whilst watching another. Although the front panel is stylish it is a basic machine without all the extra features.
