Good Points: Great content
General comments: Word is a fairly new music monthly started up by ex-Q journalists who were upset at the direction being taken by that magazine. The focus is on the same sorts of bands featured in Uncut and the NME and the intention of the editorial staff is to cut out all the flash and provide a text-heavy journal, hence the title. They certainly succeed. The features are pages and pages long, there are less ads, graphics and only relevant photos which enables Word to provide loads and loads of content. They utilise their space well and give dozens of reviews and manage to discuss more bands, albums, music books, etc. in one issue than the NME probably does in an entire year of weekly papers. Plus, any magazine that can feature Nick Cave and John Peel as 2 of its main articles can't be too bad. Highly recommended!
