I took my car insurance out with direct line but unintentionally I mixed 2 letters up on the car reg and because when I rang them & told them to change the car reg I didn't tell them also to change the model of the car as I presumed once they inserted the new car reg my car details would have been updated automatically, how wrong was I, so now after numerous phone calls & web chats I am being penalised with an additional payment fee. “Avoid like the plague!”

If you have a non-fault accident, they will automatically put you on a credit hire for a replacement car without your knowledge. This bumps up the cost for the third party insurer who will refuse to pay out. YOU WILL THEN BE LIABLE FOR EXCESSIVE CAR HIRE CHARGES AND LEGAL COSTS! Absolutely terrible service on my Home contents claim. They seem to want to make the claims process as difficult as possible. It appears that photos of a clearly beyond repair laptop, the original receipt and the box are not sufficient evidence to prove a claim. After an accident with my car , I soon found out that Direct Line are not a good company to deal with. Poor repairs to our car from their recommended repairer and they would not return my excess, even though the accident was proved to be not my fault. Direct Line became very rude on the occasions I had to call them about this matter. I opted to change Insurance Company because of this even though I had been with Direct Line for over 10years . “No customer service”

Had an accident 7 months ago. Lorry struck our car and drove on without stopping. Wrote down license plate and police identified driver very quickly and produced a report. Now 7 months on still waiting for my access to be refunded. Their "customer services" making excuses such as the "report got lost" it takes many weeks for the police to generate the report (police told me after 6 weeks it was available) etc etc. They only seem to do something when chased or at least tehy promise they'll do… Read Full Review

“Vastly overpriced, slow to respond”

Been with Direct Line for over 8 years, should have looked around for competitive quotes. They were competitive to start, but began hiking up the price after four years. Looked around this year, found other companies offered the same insurance for less than half the sum. Had an accident this year, the other driver admitted fault immediately, gave me his full details and those of his insurer. Been with direct line 15 years 25000 later can honestly say hand on my heart they really don't give a damn about their customers only interested in money, I have found them dishonest greedy uncaring rude totally uninterested in protecting their customers only extracting as much money as possible. “Excellent customer service, very happy”

My car recently suffered from an 'act of god' incident. From the off Direct Line were helpful and pro active, arranging a local garage to collect my car from home while I was at work and arranged a hire car so I wouldn't need to commute on the train, saving a small fortune. The whole repair process took 3 weeks, longer than anticipated, and I was reimbursed some of my excess because of this. As I had my car insurance with Directline I tried to ring them to obtain a quote for the new car I was purchasing. Tried on and off for 2hours and after continuous ringing for 20 mins I finally got through to be told that they were busy and I would get a ring back after 4pm that day.
