When you see that Red Phone, running around, forget it, ring someone else! If Direct line dealt with customer service instead of keep advertising for new customers they would do a whole lot better. The clearly DO NOT CARE, you only need to look at the reviews on here to see that. I thought I was quite good at comparing costs, and thought I had done the exercise a couple of years back, but just did it again today and was astounded. Have been customer for 2 cars and breakdown with DirectLine for 9 years, but went on a comparison website today and rather than £1,080 for 2 cars and breakdown cover with DirectLine I have now got it all for £400!!! “Dreadful-Disgraceful- Pathetic”

I have been waiting for almost 7 weeks now for the repair of a fence that a direct line customer crashed through. The fence has been left in an unsafe state and I have been left feeling distraught and vunerable, which is totally unacceptable. “Worst Insurer in the UK”

DIrect Line are only good at one thing....Taking your money!!. My car had minor bumper damage and a scratched alloy wheel, it went it for repair on 16 November 14 and is still there now 23/12/14. The car has been back to me once and the repairs were substandard to say the least, car taken again still waiting for an ETA on completion. “What a joke. ”

For a company that claim to be 'the best for customer service' you'd expect more than an uneducated chimp on the other end of the phone. Seemed to be more interested in reading scripted paragraphs than actually trying to solve my complaint. The first year may be a reasonable price but their renewals system is ridiculous, paying more the second year than the first! But if I put in for a quote as a new customer it's £100 cheaper. I have been insured with Direct Line for over 10 years, premiums have increased gradually but usually a telephone call to Direct Line and they reduce the price to almost market rate, for the hassle I have never moved. The last time I changed my vehicle Direct Line kindly waved the admin fee for my loyalty.This time (4 years on) they refused to do the same. I got involved in an accident that wasn't my fault told my insurance, they said they had to cancled my policy cause in last 3 years we (myself and a partner) have had our policies cancled and we failed to tell them! “Shockingly poor”

Non fault accident. Other party admitted liability. Engineer visited, gave me a figure I was happy with... Then the problems start. 1. No matter what time you ring they are "receiving an unexpected call volume" 2. Each person you speak to, tells you the it will be sorted today, you ring back the next day, your told the same. what a total bulls up and who's paying for it ?? Me ! some how they have managed to get me to pay £375 for a 1.4Vauxhall Corsa..I am 48 years old have 10 yrs no claims. They mess it up(on purpose I would say) and then charge you to cancel it !!!! this is simply unfair and just a way to squeeze every last drop out of you. Terrible customer service. Hanging on phone for 20 plus minutes. May car was broken into and the bodywork damaged but they have refused to cover the bodywork Took 3 days to get it to the garage 8 miles away and the case handler hung up on me and then refused to take further calls. They admit being awful and are sending a cheque for £100 but I'm going to the ombudsman. No wonder people don't bother with insurance with companies like this trading!!… Read Full Review

“Customer services can't be contacted by phone”

Like other customers I found that the amount I was quoted for renewal was significantly more than if you asked for a quote as a new customer. They have this system whereby your existing insurance gets renewed automatically unless you contact them to stop it. When I tried to contact them it proved impossible to get through on the phone so I have had to write to stop the renewal. “The worst experience you could imagine”

I have been with Direct Line for decades, currently 3 cars, all with legal cover, plus green flag full cover. In February I had a minor accident, but the other driver who was at fault, apparently claimed for whiplash, even though he hit me. “Windscreen Replacement”

Got my windscreen damaged while car was in car park, some horrible scratches that are right in my line of vision. Called Direct Line to get it replaced. They wouldn't authorise as its scratched instead of broken. Many people would have just put a hammer through it and claimed it broken. I wanted to be honest.
