After taking out third party fire and theft cover with direct line on my small car i payed in full and this as th cheapest quote i have ever had. After 9 months of this policy I brought a new car and decided to upgrade the cover to comprehensive for the last three months of my policy. The administration fee for this was £25 and the extra that I had to pay for becoming comprehensive for three months was only £75. This is undoubtably the cheapest company for young drivers with no no claims bonuses and although I have never dealt with them about a claim I had to phone them regarding my name being mispelt when the insurance was first took out and I found that thier customer service was very good. Direct Line and been an extreamly good first time insurance company for me.

I will never never ever use direct line again. I should have learnt from my experience several years ago when in an accident ( and my cousin warned me a few months ago in Regards to his claim, he will never use them again) and I was the innocent party, because it was not clear cut they did not want to know, I had leagl cover and made the big mistake of using solicitors that they recommended. ( do not do that, use your cover to get your own) Basically I had to shut up , not fight it, as it was ...

I have to say I have claimed a couple of times from Direct Line and had no problems, although last time their repairers took a..g..e..s. Mind you most companies probably use similar repairers. But when you get a renewal quote they load it heavily. Phone them up, ask for customer retention if they wont give you 25-30% off.

We took out insurance with Direct Line as, in theory, they would accept a substantial existing no claims bonus on a policy for another car and were the cheapest to insure a 17 year old as a named driver. They subsequently reneged on the application of the no claims bonus, which although annoying simply means that we are taking our business elsewhere.

So no real comment on the value for money but the customer service during these various 'negotiations' was absolutely appalling. Letters either ...

They managed to lose my accident report twice. Ended up having to email it to one of their minions so what I could get a reply back from them to confirm they'd received it. On 2 occasions when I tried calling them I was on hold for 20 minutes (I hung up at that point) and then 45 minutes the next time (hung up at that point as well). Used to be a good company with great customer service. Unfortunately it's gone to the dogs now.

I had a crash im my KA (someone pulled of their drive straight into my path) the poor little car splattered all over the road, as it wasnt my fault i thought this would be a straight forward claim and i would get a new car fairly quickly (the KA was only 9 months old and the garage said it was a total write off) to my suprise direct line didnt think so! Although i was paying a heafty premium for fully comp insurance i then found out i wouldnt get a courtesy car while the KA was being repaired, T ...

i am severly unhappy with direct line car insurance, it took them nine months and three cancelled policies in order for them to grant me my no claims bonus despite sending the relevant documents on four seperate occasions, i feel swindled out of money and have now lost six months on my no claims bonus, to top it all off their customer service is appauling and all this messing around has cost me in excess of £300!!!

    Shocking!

1 - my car has been with their "approved" garages 'Just car clinic' for over a month now and they don't inform me of anything. i have to phone up myself to find out what is going on.

2 - the people one the phone are absolutely rubbish, they TRY to help you but never do anything right. they say they will call me tomorrow....but as expected i receive no phone calls.

3 - the claims department is also rubbish. the people who handle the claims are supposed to be on your side but always contradict ...

Direct Line Car Insurance Customer service and speed of claim settlement was terrible. They sent me a cheque with the wrong name on it meaning I couldn't pay it into my account. Was then told that it would take 5 working days to cancel the cheque before they could initiate an instant transfer. The "next day" transfer then took over 3 days to clear and I'm still waiting. Customer service representatives are friendly but take far too long to get any information to you or get things sorted. I will ...

The worst insurance company i have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. After paying for fully comp insurance for 5 plus years someone crashed into the side of my car. I thought no problem I'm insured etc. I called direct line to make them aware of the accident and after about half an hour on the phone expected everything to be ok. The car has been repaired after I paid the excess but a year on I'm still waiting for it back. I took time out from work (three hours) to meet with an accide ...

Signed up to Direct Line car insurance due to better than average cover, including being allows to drive other cars 3rd party. I couldn't find much information on line but according to their website this cover is standard (see http://www.directline.com/about_us/news_141005.htm ).

Unfortunately, as I am under 25, I am excluded from what is supposedly 'standard'. They didn't tell me this when I bought the policy and If I had not read it in detail I would have been driving uninsured. I read a ...

we tried to change as we had seen cheaper and Direct Line would not allow us to and said we had to wait for our renewal date. I said to cancel then and they said I would have a cancellation fee. I even asked what their new quotes were and they refused.
NEEDLESS TO SAY as soon as my renewal came through the door I changed.
Their quote £645 and new quote via price comparison with Admiral £305 . No wonder they did not want to give me a quote. The same happened on their contents insuran ...

Direct Line have been fantastic, I have had 2 accidents at fault and both were settled quickly with no problems.

For my claims I filled out an online claim form and was contacted within 30mins to confirm a few details. I received a hire car the next day and they always kept me well informed with what was happening.

Their Customer service is top notch, always answered promptly and very polite helpful people from their UK based call centres.

In my experience I cannot fault them and have nothing ...

A car backed into the side of my car causing £1000 worth of damage. I was not present at the time but an independent witness wrote down the numberplate of the car that damaged mine. In spite of sending a copy of this evidence, and after months of chasing Directline with letters and phonecalls, nothing ever came of it as the other driver denied the incident, and now I have had to start again with my no claims.

Direct Line are a completely awful insurance company. Have many problems with them including waiting over 8 months for them to get in contact with a third party insurance after been hit. Due to this it also meant that I have not gained an extra no claim and my policy went up an extra £150 on renewal. Direct line are no help at all and just seem to want to argue with you on the phone. If you ever change anything on your account you are always charged an "admin fee", usually around £ ...

I insure my car with Direct Line for 5 years. However I was involved in an accident (the only one I've ever had) where another driver (also insured with Direct Line) went in to the back of my car. The impact was low speed causing, to my knowledge, a dent in the rear boot lid, a cracked brake light cover and damage to the exhaust. Since the accident was not my fault (as confirmed with Direct Line) I claimed against the other parties insurance. However Direct Line claimed my car was a write off (c ...

I would NOT recommend this insurance company to anybody at all. My car was hit in a private car park when I was not even in my car. Direct Line are very argumentative on the phone and have advised me that there's a "high chance i will loose my claim". They say this even though I have photos and emails from the guy who hit me. The after sales team seem to have no interest in helping the customer and are extremely unhelpful.

I've been with Direct Line for 4 years, first with a VW golf then a renault scenic. When I switched to them I had 8 years no claims bonus which help me quote no end. After 1 year I added my wife as a named driver on the Scenic and she subsequently had a bump in town. We claimed under her name for the knock and this was sorted out quickly. I Recently called them to get a 2nd quote for my wife on a new car for her and found the 'no claims' she had collected, wasn't transferable to another quote wi ...

I would not recommend this company to anyone in any circumstance, about three months ago i was hit by a women changing lanes at a set of traffic lights. Direct line were no help what so ever to me and didnt help in pursuing my innocence in the ordeal, they couldnt even be bothered to look at the cars which would have cleared the whole situation up!! so they have now lost me my two years no claims, i have had to pay £400 for something I didnt even do and my insurance had gone sky high. Than ...

Be aware that named drivers with Direct Line do not get the same level of no claims bonus as the policyholder does. They say that 'The named driver no claim discounts may be lower than the no claim discounts available to you as the policyholder'. But that's not the case as the named-driver no claim discounts are definitely lower, not 'may be'lower. They don't give the actual rates on their web site. I asked a representative is she knew but she didn't know.
