“Disgraceful attitude”

I was involved in an accident where a driver came around a blind bend downhill on a damp road overtaking parked cars which caused him to come over onto my side of the road. I noticed he was too wide and drove into a side road, this had little affect when he applied his brakes as his vehicle slid the last 44 feet before colliding into my vehicle. “Horrific after an accident”

I was involved in an accident where the other driver was at fault. Direct line were useless in assisting, I wondered why I was paying my insurance at all - after transferring me through to various different departments and being left on hold for about 40 minutes minimum every time I rang, I eventually went through my third party insurance because they were extremely helpful - Octagon who I would recommend. This company worked very hard but unfortunately for the other party, after an accident they immediately found I was at fault because I had changed lanes, no matter the other driver was speeding and overtaking on the inside, they admitted liability before contacting the other driver to see if he would admit to being at fault and the call centre staff was rude and unhelpful, its a shame there isint a catagory worse than terrible… Read Full Review

“double the price”

Double the price of the same insurance from elsewhere so we cancelled our policy. Despite this they subsequently took our premium. For the last two weeks they have been promising to return / claiming they have returned our money. Endless phone calls and hassle and still no money back. Phoned direct line as I had got a car insurance quote on line adding my daughter for the same price as my quote. Got a very helpful young man who looked into it for me and checked the whole quote.Everything was fine and checked out correct . Changed a few details and quote was honoured. “No common sense”

Firstly equivalent cover will cost you half the money with a basic web search. The staff are rounded up from local community centres, rehabilitation projects and approved schools and basically cant spell their name let alone deal with a customer enquiry. For the 5 years I used them they sent me 3 of everything for reasons known only to them. When claiming after an accident I was initially offered £500 for a car worth at the minimum £5000. “Satisfied customer”

Direct line took my collision details over the phone. Communicated well and arranged for car to be picked up. My policy has guaranteed car hire so I had one for two weeks. The garage took a little longer to complete so I had to hire a car for a further 3 days. The £70 money back paid for the extra car hire. A really excellent service from direct line car insurance, it doesn't pay long term to skimp on insurance. We have our pet insurance with them. “7 DAY REPAIR”

Never use direct line. My son had an accident its has taken over 3 weeks for the repair. Constant mis - communication.The 7 day repair  does not start until the repairer has the parts which can take weeks. We were burgled when I was on night shift some 20 years ago the wife disturbed the burglars when she arrived home from work. At that time they appointed local agents to handle the claim.
We were treated like criminals ( I had not retired from the Police Service at that time) and had to produce receipts for items claimed - its virtually impossible because who keeps a receipt for a pair of ear rings or even a camera after the warranty has expired.
I had to go to 3 local firms for an estimate to replace the Patio Door and they tried to make me have a (cheaper) plastic one even though at that time we were all alluminium framed! Eventually after complaining they agreed to fit an aluminium one.
I will NEVER use them for home insurance again.

When you see that Red Phone, running around, forget it, ring someone else! If Direct line dealt with customer service instead of keep advertising for new customers they would do a whole lot better. The clearly DO NOT CARE, you only need to look at the reviews on here to see that. Why become a customer to a company that give terrible customer service, don't do what they say they will, and ignore your mail? I thought I was quite good at comparing costs, and thought I had done the exercise a couple of years back, but just did it again today and was astounded. Have been customer for 2 cars and breakdown with DirectLine for 9 years, but went on a comparison website today and rather than £1,080 for 2 cars and breakdown cover with DirectLine I have now got it all for £400!!! “Worst Insurer in the UK”

DIrect Line are only good at one thing....Taking your money!!. My car had minor bumper damage and a scratched alloy wheel, it went it for repair on 16 November 14 and is still there now 23/12/14. The car has been back to me once and the repairs were substandard to say the least, car taken again still waiting for an ETA on completion. “What a joke. ”

For a company that claim to be 'the best for customer service' you'd expect more than an uneducated chimp on the other end of the phone. Seemed to be more interested in reading scripted paragraphs than actually trying to solve my complaint. The first year may be a reasonable price but their renewals system is ridiculous, paying more the second year than the first! But if I put in for a quote as a new customer it's £100 cheaper. I have been insured with Direct Line for over 10 years, premiums have increased gradually but usually a telephone call to Direct Line and they reduce the price to almost market rate, for the hassle I have never moved. The last time I changed my vehicle Direct Line kindly waved the admin fee for my loyalty.This time (4 years on) they refused to do the same. what a total bulls up and who's paying for it ?? Me ! some how they have managed to get me to pay £375 for a 1.4Vauxhall Corsa..I am 48 years old have 10 yrs no claims.
