Good Points: the day my insurance expired with direct line

Bad Points: i was involved in a 2mph bump which was my fault. direct line gave better customer service to the 3rd party than me. the 3rd party got an 'independent' engineer to check the few scratches on his car and DL said thay had to 'honour' that-the engineer could have been any tom, dick or harry. they gave the 3rd party £196 and told me they closed the case and wouldnt be paying anymore. they refused to accept my witness statements. a few months later when renewal time came i found out they paid 3rd party a total of approx £4000.people dont get that much when they lose limbs in accidents-never mind a little scratch on the car! truly disgusted with direct line

General comments: i would not recommend direct line to anybody

Very poor after-sales service when customer is totally dissatisfied and wants to cancel. Direct Line Car Insurance do not provide customers with their fax number; neither do they provide a fax number/email address for their complaints review department, for dissatisfied customers to contact them...this is my recent personal experience.

Absolute nightmare of a company, very good at talking your premium but when it comes to a payout for your car when it is written off beware, try every thing possible to slow up your claim,ie refer it to claims validators, will only pay market value, which may be miles of the value of your car,i,m 6 months down the line with Direct Line Car Insurance and are having to involve the f.s.o, if you have a high value car or something special or out of the ordinary forget this company for insurance.

My wife and I have two cars, the first insured through a different company, and with a no-claims discount. Upon buying the second car, we shopped for insurance and found that direct line offered the lowest rate if a no-claims discount could be applied. The website said something like "a no claims discount can only be applied to one car per household." Any sane human would assume that only one car could be insured THROUGH DIRECT LINE with the no-claims discount, other cars insured through other ...

Not a nice experience with Direct Line Insurance. Simply put - think twice before insuring with direct line. I'm a carefull driver but two years ago me, and several other drivers, hit an oil slick and came off the road. I clipped the front left wheel causing a fair bit of damage to that corner of the car. phoned direct line from the roadside and they arranged a tow truck etc very quickly. Police report stated that no one was at fault, expected to pay excess and did so. I expected to recieve ...

Had a minor incident (my fault) but due to the low value of my car it was written off. Staff at direct line were very helpful from the moment I called to tell them about the accident to the resolution of my claim. Having worked in car insurance previously I had expected a nightmare but they were professional and efficient.

I took out a car policy with Direct Line Car Insurance cos my partner had hers with them. docs came with partners wrong age on them. was told to pay a further 196 £ or canx. direct line said that i had input the wrong age. I put in twice the correct date of birth twice cos they wanted to check her policy with them to qualify for the dual policy discount. Direct line lied and said that there is no option of dob and that i have to put in the age in figures. Tried twice on line quote again a ...

I have been with direct line for several years and they have been fantastic. Almost everthing in my house is covered with direct line and I would never change I had a burst pipe in my toilet last year it happened at 8pm at night and I was frantic. The company that direct line instructed to deal with the disaster(Balfour) were very proffesional and even down to the accesors they were excellent... Nothing but praise from me...worth every penny....

I used Direct Line for car insurance for 5 years. However another driver ran into the back of my car and caused some minor damage. I made a claim which was actually against the 3rd party driver as they admitted liability (they were also insured with Direct Line so I dealt direct with them). After the accident I called Direct Line but was on hold so long my phone ran out of credit. So instead I called the RAC (I am also a member) who removed some plastic trim that was fouling the rear wheel and h ...

been with direct line for 15 years just phoned to cancel my policy as premium for my new car was going to be £380 and was able to get cheaper with LV. ( £146). Because I was cancelling during the year and not on my renewal, all policies form a 1 year contract I was informed there would be a charge of 1 months premium. I also had breakdown cover which carries a charge to cancel. Therefor the total cost to cancel my policy with direct line will cost me £68. I think this is ...

We are in the process of buying a house which had moderate chances of subsidence in the environmental searches. I rung the surveyor who said this wouldnt be a problem its what happens when you have an extention its more ground instability. Directline said they would need a letter from him, gave me a fax number. I faxed it, rung the next day, no thats the wrong number gave me another fax number. Rung next day no thats the wrong number, faxed to the correct number eventually and the woman said the ...

I have been with direct line since I passed my driving test in January 2008. They have been quite good at keeping me informed, but when I moved house in July last year they charged me almost £70 to change my address! Surely they only have to type it into their database and send me an update of my policy? I could understand paying a small fee, but £70 is absolutely ridiculous! I have recently moved house again and actually don't want to contact them again because there is so muc ...

I have now been driving for 4 years and been insured with Direct Line from the Start. My Dad was the named driver on my first car because of my age, experience it was too high to get insured on my own. But their tv adverts and staff on the phones insured us that I would be building up my no claims. However, after two years I finally brought a better car and tried to insure myself as the named driver - BUT I was told I had no claims discount, I was only building up a no claims BONUS!! Its diff ...

after crashing my car the next day i rang direct line to make a claim by the next day it had been taken away. Two days later they told me it was a write off and gave me a total loss payment which was £4500 and i only payed £4200 for the car a year ago!! But i am sure my quote will go up next year. Very good company to deal with.

Generally I found Direct Line to be pretty good, although i never had to make a claim. I paid my premium monthly by direct debit and was only charged about £20 when i canceled the policy. The Problem i have with them is that they dont give enough information about named driver NCD unless you phone them up and specifically ask.The reason i changed from Direct Line last year is that I bought a 1.9l 205 GTI and they don't insure people under 25 on certain cars eg. big engines, modified, certa ...

Woman hit my parked car. They sent it to a garage. They fixed the problem but scratched my car. They then fixed that. then when I drove away I conked out off petrol. Took car back again and the roof doesnt work now. They said it is just one of them parts and its my problem. Now direct line have been messing me about from before christmas. My new parts ect are going to cost me £700.

In 2006 I had a Head on collision not my fault I was seriously injured. While I was in hospital, DL took care of the storage and had the car assed for damage, within days I was told the write off price I would get, I agreed and got the Cheque within days. I was given a solicitor of there choosing. I had a limit of £1000,000 for legal expenses, the case was finally ended in 2008, Top marks to Direct Line.

Previous premium was £330 with Direct Line. I upgraded my car half way through the year, it cost me £60 to upgrade the insurance. So, when I went to renew for the following year, I was expecting a very maximum price of £450 (300 + (60x2)), but the best they could offer was £530, so an increase in a year of £200 or 60%. Totally unreasonable especially since I am now 25, have never had an accident or anything stolen and have been with Direct Line for 7 years. ...
