“Rip of artists”

Written on: 09/04/2017 by Kevinfenner (1 review written)

We rented in Malaga, nice car, we declined insurance as we have it on our credit card On returning car, inspection was done no damage so we got our deposit back After being home 3 weeks we get a notification that we have done $600 damage that will be charged to our credit card; they send 7 photos that 1 of them shows a scratch of about 12mm on door Now I know that's not getting repaired, as the car already had damage, and it's definitely not worth $600; as I said rip of artists my cred it card has… Read Full Review

“Dishonest rental office - worst ever rental car...”

Written on: 04/04/2017 by olCarroll407 (1 review written)

I made the mistake of trusting Thrifty's branch and pre-paid for a rental car for a week at Madeira airport in March 2017. On arrival I was given a terrible car called a Lancia Ypsilon having paid for a Peugeot 108. The agent tried to describe it as an upgrade which I declined to pay for. They showed me the Ypsilon saying it was all they had. There was damage to one tyre which they said was all recorded indicating the condition report. The car was terrible - with a shuddering on braking from… Read Full Review

“Cheats & Liars”

Written on: 29/03/2017 by Spencerok189 (1 review written)

I returned my car at Barcelona airport with a full-tank of fuel. The inspector & desk clerk clearly stated 'no damage, tank full, nothing to pay sir'. Only when I got home did I spot they'd amended the form to show tank as 7/8 full & had stolen 39.57 euros (equating to 316 a tank!) off my credit card. Never use them, they are cheating liars… Read Full Review

We ave been sold a collision damage waiver, even though we had clearly stated that we had bought our own. Using thrifty is an extremely costly mistake. I was charged an extra 350 Euro at the desk when we arrived tired and wanting to get going. Avoid.

“Terrible customer service”

Written on: 21/03/2017 by Kyson126 (1 review written)

Treated dreadfully by two members of staff there who almost refused service for not paying by credit card or having a flight off Hawaii, neither of which I was warned about. I've since had terrible interactions with Thrifty regarding refunds. Terrible customer service in the Kona branch and centrally. Would never use again… Read Full Review

“Proof of insurance”

Written on: 06/03/2017 by 412Wilkinson (1 review written)

How nerve racking is hiring a car? I was liable if someone else hit me? Crazy! However, the rental went ok. They tried saying there were stone chips in the paintwork; however, I wasn't paying for that and they gave up the chase. My employer has now asked for proof of the level of insurance the company provided. This will ensure I get my mileage back for the journeys I covered whilst in the hire car. Thrifty so far have sent me three emails; each with a different document scanned in. None of… Read Full Review

“Horrible service, pure misery!!”

Written on: 14/02/2017 by Lorenzo22 (1 review written)

I had a horrible experience with Thrifty rental car at Atlanta airport. Charges were way above estimate online. Felt like I had to be ready for all the tricks in the book at the time of rental. "I could have a cheap upgrade, which I should do because the mid size car I selected would not even have a trunk, etc..." Returned the car early and was charged a week and a half more than I had it although they rented it out two more times in that period according to perhaps the only honest employee… Read Full Review

“Apalling, Rude, Misleading and Deceptive”

Written on: 15/11/2016 by wgBell290 (1 review written)

An awful car hire experience from Cairns Airport. I was assured in writing and verbally that my preauthorization (bond) would not be deducted from my credit card account. It was charged and to this date not refunded. Every representation to Thrifty meets with denial, rudeness, nonsense spin or ignore. I consider the whole hire experience to be awful. Further I consider the whole process to be misleading and deceptive. Would strongly recommend anyone not to use Thrifty. I would certainly never… Read Full Review

“(Slough Branch) Misleading & Extremely bad customer...”

Written on: 07/11/2016 by O'Gradyuw1988 (1 review written)

I hired a car for 1 day. When I collected the car I was offered a discount if I wanted to keep the car for longer at the time I said no, but I was told I could phone up if I changed my mind. I decided it would be good to keep the car longer so I phoned up as discussed and ended up speaking to the Branch manger who told me they don't normally offer discounts and it got very awkward when she started saying that the clerk who initially hired the car too me should not have offered such things. If… Read Full Review

“Thrifty comes good ”

Written on: 11/10/2016 by Roadhogs59 (1 review written)

We had prebooked and prepaid for Thrifty car hire from Chicago O`Hare. All good - pick up and drop off without hassle or event . Week after returning home found that credit card had been mystifyingly debited an extra £300 odd pounds for `extras`- about which we knew not. Asked Carrentals to investigate which they did efficiently and it appeared that we had been charged at the pick up desk for extra insurance and other items of insurance which we hadn`t asked about, had ordered nor wanted!… Read Full Review

“Charges under the radar”

Written on: 27/09/2016 by Palmeras327 (1 review written)

Booked on-line, picked up at JFK. It was when we got to the desk at JFK that all the extra charges came out and we were put into a position where we couldn't say no. After all, it was either accept the additional charges or be stuffed to drive to Chicago. None of the extra charges were explained on-line at time of booking. When we dropped the car off at the end of the trip, the office had closed for the day and they charged us for an extra days rental even though it was them that were closed… Read Full Review

“Smooth and efficient car rental in Malaga Airport”

Written on: 12/09/2016 by Foxe (1 review written)

Even though I did nor rent direct with Thrifty, I used Argus Car Hire, I had no problems with Thrifty in Malaga airport. I arrived at about midday, showed my voucher to the agent and completed the paperwork in about 7 minutes. I had ordered a Seat Leon but was upgraded to a Hyundai Tuscon at no extra charge or fuss. The whole experience was smooth and efficient, exactly as it should be. The SUV was clean, full of fuel and only cost me €40 to refill for a stay of 12 days, great value… Read Full Review

AVOID DOLLAR THRIFTY based at The Sheraton Heathrow Hotel AWFUL AWFUL service, took an hour to collect me from T5 with their "Shuttle Service" then an 1 HOUR & HALF to finally drive away from there. The car wasn't even washed once I was finally accepted for the hire after being given the rubber glove treatment !!! Just APPALLING. Then had to wait for nearly an hour to hand the car back - REDICULOUS. Called a taxi to get back to T5 as the "Shuttle Service" well I think you've guessed....... Go… Read Full Review

“Thrifty by name - con-artists by nature”

Written on: 08/09/2016 by 416Newman (1 review written)

We rented a Ford Fiesta from Perth to Carlisle on a Saturday morning. Had to rush as the Carlisle branch kept ringing us to say they were shutting at 12.30pm. Arrived at 12.20pm, but didn't get the chance to refill the half a tank of fuel we had used. Was told they would charge £1.25 a litre which I was prepared to accept as in a rush. Needless to say they have charged way more - basically a full tank at £1.52 a litre. No response from Customer Service. I am reporting them to Trading… Read Full Review

“Rip of Thrifty & Hertz France ”

Written on: 21/08/2016 by Nute (1 review written)

I rented a thrifty car in Marignane, Marseille. 1. they wanted to charge me a 100 euros for a GPS that was part of the car 2.They were very rude and arrogant, when I pointed it to them. 3. I had to return the car by 9 am, on appointed day. Forest fires around the airport had caused the motorway to be blocked and an 10 km gridlock. There was chaos chaos everywhere, as they had to give priority to planes dumping waters on the fires. As I had set off with plenty of spare time, I was only a… Read Full Review

“Rip off merchants”

I had bought insurance, told them, showed them and yet they would not let me take the car without paying for their insurance. "Don't sign" you say. Well the car was pre paid and I was on a road trip so what was I supposed to do? Call the cops? Is this really how these guys work? Avoid at all costs… Read Full Review

“A very nice experience”

Written on: 25/07/2016 by Harris-Altke269 (1 review written)

Hired a car from Thrifty at Heathrow (Sheraton Hotel). The staff were very friendly and helpful; upgraded the car; showed me the way around the controls, and even supplied bandages and concern when I cut my head when loading our luggage into the boot. When returning the service was fairly quick and the car was signed off quickly. a small issue when the bus to the airport could not take all the people waiting, but another vehicle was quickly arranged. All in all a very good experience; and very… Read Full Review

“Do not hire a car from Thrifty at "Stansted Airport"”

Written on: 22/06/2016 by Nuriamelbourne (1 review written)

Booked a car to collect at Stansted Airport at 5pm. We followed the signs for car rental and got the shuttle to the car rental village. Thrifty DO NOT operate from Stansted Airport. The man at the Hertz counter kindly rang them for us and said they would send someone to pick us up. We waited an hour by the side of the road and had ta call a number of times before we were picked up and taken to a shed behind a distribution centre in a village called Great Hallingbury. Once there we had to… Read Full Review

Innervationspilates's Response to Nuriamelbourne's Review

Written on: 22/07/2016

Rest assured I will never use dollar or thrifty car rental. We recently used thrifty in Chicago- the service was the laziest I ever seen with no desire whatsoever to get the Customer served promptly and efficiently- we had to wait close to a half
Hour for a shuttle to pick us up and at least another 45 min to get our Vehicle. However thank you for the shuttle driver who was an angel. A Shuttle by the way which ran 1 time per hour- a 10 min drive to ohAre - on of the busiest airports in the US. Pay the extra money- by the time dollar/thrifty adds on stuff savings
Are minimal - not worth the stress.

“a great experience!”

Written on: 20/06/2016 by Rissele (1 review written)

This was the second time I have used Thrifty and with no other car rental company did i have the wonderful experience that I had with Thrifty at JFK Airport. I had an unusual situation and it was swiftly and compassionately dealt with by the manager! He came out of his office and directed a very sweet young woman and the problem was solved in literally less than 5 minutes. It is very evident that he is a dedicated and skilled Thrifty manager intent on making the customer happy. Next… Read Full Review

“Outstanding staff”

Written on: 03/06/2016 by TomBarrett1 (1 review written)

I would like to commend the staff at the Budapest Thrifty car rental facility. After a rental, I forgot my glasses in the swing down eyeglass holder above the driver. I contacted the office a week later, Attila Karpati and his staff went out of their way to help me. They found my glasses, and Attila took the trouble to take my glasses to the post office, package them, and ship them back to me in the U.S. That is well above and beyond the call of duty. He was helpful, polite, and caring. The… Read Full Review
