“A rip off”

Written on: 24/05/2016 by Holbrookut201 (1 review written)

No insurance cover. And overcharge. A rip off. Just return BMW x 5 to Heathrow Thrifty. At beginning of rental, refuse me for any insurance cover. Charge me for 2000 pounds straight ahead as deposit. At return, find a scuff at alloy. Charge me 85 pounds. Find a 10 cm tyre cut for front tyre of R20. Charge me 600 pounds… Read Full Review

“Overcharging for no reason.”

Written on: 17/05/2016 by AlessandroBuondi (1 review written)

We rented a car via Economycarrental for 10 days for 184.89 EUR. On arrival at Eindhoven airport the car was not ready yet so we were offered another, diesel, car for 5 EUR per day extra. Weeks later the credit card receipt shows a total of 279.49. Three emails later from Hertz and not Thrifty, who initially rented us the car, we were told they had to charge extra costs as location fees and tax. Bad customer service. Bad communication. Next time I will go somewhere else for sure… Read Full Review

“Tower Bridge Branch in Tower Bridge”

Written on: 11/05/2016

I hired a car from Thrifty Tower Bridge. Car was good, service was good, everything fine until I dropped it back. The guy who checked it went straight to one of the front tyres, rubbed some grease off the alloy which was right next to the tyre, and said "look there's a scratch here". He didn't check any of the other tyres, he knew immediately where to look for the "damage". I made it clear that I hadn't caused this damage, but they insisted in deducting £85 from my damage deposit… Read Full Review

“Charged twice. No response from Thrifty”

Written on: 21/04/2016 by RER152 (3 reviews written)

Hired a Thrifty car through Rentalcars.com paying for an extra driver and a full fuel tank for collection at Atlanta, USA in October 2015. On returning the car, Thrifty charged us again (about US$800 as it was a four week hire) for the 2nd driver and refuelling and despite e-mailing them at the time to complain, I have yet to receive a response, let alone an apology. After referring the matter to my credit card company and Rentalcars.com I eventually received a refund but think this was… Read Full Review

I know we should have read the documentation thoroughly as we would never… Read Full Review

“Absolutely dishonest and rip off company!!”

Written on: 11/04/2016 by Guru007 (1 review written)

We booked a medium size car from Plymouth to Heathrow 3 weeks ago. During the inspection the chap from Thrifty made a detailed note of all the scratch marks on the wheels and body of the car. During the drop-off at Heathrow office I was charged 250 pounds for the scratch which was already documented on the inspection sheet from Plymouth. The customer service was absolutely useless and the man incharge was very arrogant as well. Since I was in a hurry and to board a flight, he agreed to discuss… Read Full Review

“Total rip off”

Written on: 01/04/2016 by JG777000 (1 review written)

Can't quite believe how this 'company' can get away with charging $700 online for a 'mustang or similar' , inform me once arrived in Orlando airport that there are $1000 worth of insurance/taxes still to be paid and that, seeing as I wanted a mustang, I may as well pay an extra $300 to get one, apparently the original $700 car was only standard and they weren't quite sure why it says mustang or similar online. Absolute joke. I've emailed customer complaints twice and have heard nothing. Will… Read Full Review

“Being over charged for fuel”

Written on: 19/03/2016 by JerimiahGonzalez303 (1 review written)

November 2015 We hired a car on line for pick up at Rome Ciampino Airport. All went well until, when on the return journey to the airport, the vehicle refused to start following a stop at a service station for a coffee. As the mechanic sent out could not get it started, we were taken to a local garage from where we took a taxi to the airport. This whilst traumatic was no real hardship and thrifty have, as agreed repaid us the taxi fare. However what it did mean was that we were denied the… Read Full Review

“We reserved a Full size vehicle from Thrifty online...”

Written on: 02/03/2016

We reserved a Full size vehicle from Thrifty online for pick up at the Denver Airport two months in advance and paid a $700 deposit. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle we were told that the vehicle we had reserved was not available and had no choice but to upgrade to a larger vehicle for and additional $25/day. When we returned the vehicle at the end of the week, we were told that they had no record of the $700 deposit, my credit card would be charged over $1500, and no one on site could… Read Full Review

“WORST customer service EVER!!”

WORST customer service I have every experienced. Full of hidden fees and charges which they don't warn you about in order to get their £42 admin charges. All the fees that they sent us a month after our rental equated to almost double our actual car rental cost. Do yourselves a favour and DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!… Read Full Review

“disgraceful company”

Written on: 20/01/2016 by cakeypig45 (3 reviews written)

I had an horrendous experience with this company. Having returned the rental car as per the agreement I received my credit card statement weeks later only to discover that Thrifty had charged me £130 for services I never asked for or agreed to. This included them charging me a "drop fee" as they alleged that I returned the car to a different airport when this was not the case. Even though I provided them proof via my flight invoice they ignored my request for a refund. Their customer services… Read Full Review

“Thirfty Car Rental Dishonest”

Written on: 04/01/2016 by toddlefko (1 review written)

Thrifty does not do pre-inspection before you leave and when you return claim you have major damage and charge you additional money. They then claim that unless you pay, because of their connections with local authorities, you will never be allowed to leave the country. This is first dishonest Thrifty car rental we have experienced in many years of renting cars. They are dishonest and should be avoided at all costs. Aruba is wonderful, except for Thrifty Car Rental... Todd Lefko..Elk River… Read Full Review

Thirsty2001's Response to toddlefko's Review

Written on: 14/01/2016

Agree! They did the same to me, charging $100+ for 'damage' which they said was a dirty back seat. It was a one day business rental and we never even used the back seat. When I inquired, their 'customer service' department said the 'case was closed' and would not even discuss it!
Avoid at all costs - given this seems to be a regular occurence, I might take it up with the Government authorities

“OK........If you like cigarette smoke.”

Written on: 27/12/2015 by Garrett357 (1 review written)

Bad experience in Tulsa Oklahoma in November of 2015. Paid a reasonable price for midsize car that I had reserved. When I picked up the car it was a Kia Soul. Not midsize, no trunk room. Very cramped. Worse however was the fact that it smelled of cigarette smoke for the whole vacation. Sprayed, left windows open but could not get rid of the stink. Customer service was adequate but overall not a pleasant experience. Never again with Thrifty… Read Full Review

“Do not use”

Written on: 11/12/2015 by Self65 (1 review written)

Due to the incompetence of staff members in this company I missed my flight, after explaining the situation to the customer service they are not willing to compensate for anything. “Thrifty, Massive Mistake, Don't Go There. ”

Written on: 29/11/2015 by CeliaRuby (1 review written)

My son booked a manual Ford Fiesta car from Thrifty, Inverness in April 2015. His booking was for the end of June/beginning of July. I thought at 21 he was too young to hire a car. I also thought he was too inexperienced having held a full driving licence for only 18 months. Apparently not. My son learnt to drive and passed his test in a Ford Fiesta. He had only ever driven a manual Ford Fiesta and a manual Ford KA. That is why he booked a manual Ford Fiesta with Thrifty. My son travelled… Read Full Review

“Another Way of Ripping Us Off!”

Written on: 21/11/2015 by Shaunplowe (1 review written)

My first car hire was in Florida, when they scared me into increasing my insurance, doubling the cost. Every car hire since they have tried ways of getting more money out of me. The latest trick, again in Florida, was to buy a toll package to cover any usage of the toll roads. The scare tactics were back warning us that we would get a $25 for every toll we used. We tried to buy the package for 1 day, before heading out of Miami, but were told we could only do it for the duration of the… Read Full Review

“Do not believe thrifty when they tell you a free...”

Written on: 19/10/2015 by Bentley273 (1 review written)

Do not believe thrifty when they tell you a free upgrade is at there cost and not yours, when the car I prepaid for was not available I was unknowingly at the time charged an extra £210. Later when checking my credit card details and my rental agreement I found this out. I. Complained to customer care, who had previously told me by email that any upgrade if the car I had paid for was unavailable I would get an upgrade at there expense. Not true. Whilst they said they sympathised with me… Read Full Review

“RUDE STAFF IN MALL OF EMIRATES THRIFTY BRANCH”

Written on: 29/09/2015

Me and my husband, we rented a car from Thrifty for 2 months and while I was driving, I just notice a crack developing on the windshield where the rearview mirror was placed. It just appeared like that with no incident at all. Now Thrifty wants us to pay for this! Why should we pay? Its not our fault? They should check with the car brand and avoid renting out low quality cars! We didn't had any accident, it just appeared from nowhere because of its low quality. When we were telling the staff… Read Full Review

“Recently hired a car to go on holiday, collection day...”

Written on: 27/07/2015 by markharding557 (1 review written)

Recently hired a car to go on holiday, collection day came and I was given the hard sell over additional insurance, I was puzzled at a tiny chip and a blemish being listed as existing damage. Later I learned why, this company will extract more money out of you one way or the other. They will charge for the slightest mark or scratch which are not even noticeable to most people. I was charged £170 for two imaginary damaged wheels for marks which I didn't notice at all and I dispute this being… Read Full Review
