We hired a car through an agent, turned up at the Dollar/Thrifty desk at Rome Airport and they confirmed that they had the booking details but the assistant still looked worried and wandered off while his colleague totally ignored us and carried on reading his paper.
The first assistant returned spoke with the second and it transpired that they did not have a car for us, that is, any car of any description. They arranged for us to hire a car from Europcar for '255 and were told that we would have to try and get a refund from Dollar/Thrifty for the original deposit we had paid when booking on line. We have since found out that this is a regular occurrence wit this firm, they take the booking and the money but have no car for you.

Collection process with Thrifty Car Rental was easy, didn't feel pressured to purchase any add-ons. Rented a Dodge Charger which was perfect for us - roomy and very clean and was actually relatively economical. Only complaint would be the compulsory, excessively-priced, pre-paid tank of fuel although admittedly it was nice not to have to worry about finding a gas station when I was shattered after a 9 hour flight and trying to get used to driving in a different country. Added another driver half ...

I booked the rental through www.carhire3000.com, I got a good deal (initially) for 35 days was '23.62 per day for a Peugeot 407. I had a medical emergency towards the end of the rental and needed to extend by 4 days. That was done over the phone with great difficulty after being put on hold by carhire3000 for over an hour over a 2 hour period and they still could not resolve the matter. Finally after more phone calls to Thrifty at Dublin airport and having to ring different numbers I got the ext ...

Booked a car for a week through Holiday Autos whose agent at Dublin airport is Thrifty. The Thrifty desk was the only one with a queue. Had paid CDW to Holiday Autos but Thrifty wanted to charge me again at 15 Euros a day. I assume this would have been 120 euros for a friday to friday hire. This is about half the annual cost of insurance on my own car. The excess was 1100 euros which they did say (eventually) I could claim back from Holiday Autos. Decided to risk it. Next scam is that they char ...

Rental cars have become prohibitively expensive in Vancouver this year. The cheapest I could find for this trip was $425 (Canadian) per week; at least 30 percent higher than last year. As I was completing the paperwork at the Thrifty desk at Vancouver International Airport, a rental agent told me I needed to get insurance at an additional $200 per week. I was reasonably sure it was optional, but she said if I didn't get it, I could pay up to $50,000 if anything happened to the car. I told her a ...

We had to wait for over an hour to collect the car. The Thrifty Car Rental staff kept saying it will be here in 5 minutes and made us stand outside. Really poor customer service.

I reserved a minivan and Thirfty gave me a good deal. When we actually went to pick it up in the Toronto airport, the lady at the coutner said they don't have the minivan. Instead they offered to get us a car. We were seven people and a car would be no good. They don't care. Don't go by the rates. They are not dependable. If they get a better offer they dump you!
Our entire travel plan was affected. I wrote to them but no response.
    NEVER RENT with them

First of all, Thrifty Car rentals only accept very few credit-cards insurance which forces you to take their own insurance which brings up the cost quite significantly.

Of course, you only find out about this "detail" (has I was rudely told) at the counter (20mn from the airport).

Second of all, they don't "hold" the 1200 Euros security deposit on your credit card, but they directly cash it.

And since the Dollar/Euro exchange rate dropped by 0.2 point during my 2 weeks' vacation, by the time ...

Thrifty rates were lower than Dollar for (apparently) the same car - probably should have realised that the car provided ("all we have") was considerably less than that booked - large car booked and compact SUV type provided. The charges actually charged to my card at the end of the hire were double those explained - argument still continuing.

I picked up a car from Charlotte, NC airport with Thrifty which included satnav (GPS). Drove 2hrs to Asheville, NC where my friend informed me he had a spare one I could then use. As Thrifty were charging me $10 a day then I tried returning it to the Asheville Thrifty location only to be told that it had to go back to a 'corporate' location. Therefore the next day I had to drive a 4hr round trip back to Charlotte just to return the system.

On dropping the car I was charged $500 drop off fee...f ...

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. Thrifty Car Rental charged us an unexpected £260 on top of the rental charge, but didn't tell us this until we arrived at the place. They then "accidentally" charged us TWICE, then refused to give the money back immediately, saying it would take up to ten days to return to us. Don't go near them, they will rip you off. They are incredibly unhelpful, the staff are rude, the van was sluggish and difficult to drive.

Thrifty Car Rental Miami (beware hidden costs)
Various problems with check in staff re reservation. Car was very tired with 33000miles and damage to every panel on car plus interior trim falling off but after 24 hours of travel too tired to argue as staff less than helpful, drove car for approx 50 miles and found it had bad vibration at freeway speeds and the brakes were not the best (wharped discs a common pronlem on the Crysler 300) Returned car after 2 weeks and was charged $60.00 for fuel (c ...

I have rented many times now and will continue to do so in the future.

Picked up the car at Atlanta Airport (although it was not actully inside the airport, it was a mile down the road).

Got to the sales desk where there were 2 staff who didn't have a CLUE what was going on, stood there for like 20 minutes while they messed about with paperwork.

Every time a 'Thrifty BlueChip Member' walks in you are forgoten about and they are served.

Eventually got the keys, but it was not the type of car we asked for! Went back to the office and did more paper work and got th ...

Booked the car in Florence (Firenze), Italy. The lady charged my for higher rate car but gave me lower rate car. When I asked her about it she told me the lower rate car was better. When I got back home and disputed with Thrifty, she provided a fake receipt and said that I have returned the care 3.5h late but reduced/fixed the rates and charged me for extra day to make the final number the same, which was flat out lying. Thrifty did not do anything beyond that or did not return my emails. I am s ...

Car pick up is a bus ride away from the airport so not as easy as just picking up from the airport. I would never use Thirfy again. Also they offer to rent you a sat nav at a stupid rate - it's cheaper to buy a new one or take your own with USA maps.

This review is all about customer service when trying to book a rental car at Thrifty, in Swindon, 3 weeks in advance, so the condition of the car noted above, was irrelevant. They state that the age limit for drivers is 70 years, but add that it can be extended to 75 subject to medical checks. I reported at a request to book in that I was 72 but in good medical condition and if necessary could provide my own insurance by my own car insurance company. Initially they said they would check and ri ...

We wasted many hours out of our vacation trying to deal with a problem that should have been so easy to fix with basic customer service. Thrifty have shown once again that they are unresponsive to customer complaints and have exceptionally poor service standards. Their line employees were unempowered to deliver good customer service even though they clearly wanted to. Thrifty appears to be an organisation that doesn't care about their customers.
