“Extremely Poor Service & Very Dodgy Company”

Written on: 18/04/2015 by Jaylin407 (1 review written)

We recently had one of the worst car rental experiences of our lives renting through Thrifty (and we rent vehicles a lot). Here is our story: • We booked a midsize SUV from Jan 16 to Feb 17, 2015 (33 days) on Hotwire (way back in early October to ensure a vehicle of choice would be available) with an estimated price of $2007.01 (daily rate $26.71) inc taxes (there was no mention of a $250 drop-off fee in the quote). • We arrived on Friday 16th January at Las Vegas International airport to… Read Full Review

“Beware of high-pressure upsell!”

Written on: 10/04/2015 by srabblequeen (1 review written)

Our counter agent at Savannah Airport couldn't have been more friendly until we started to decline the insurances and upgrades, etc. Then she turned sour and surly. It was most unpleasant, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. The car was fine, and the return experience uneventful, but boy did the pick up experience was really uncomfortable and intimidating… Read Full Review

“Do not trust Thrifty”

Written on: 25/03/2015 by Abbieg412 (1 review written)

I rented a car through Thrifty in Sept 2014 while in LA for work. During my time, I ran a red light and a traffic cam caught the incident. As a result, the City of Santa Monica sent a violation to Thrifty in Dec 2014. Thrifty claims that they never received the violation in December, and so the City of Santa Monica nearly doubled the fine and re-issued the statement in March 2015. Thrifty then paid the total violation ($815 for running a red light including the late fee - first offense, clean… Read Full Review

I hired a car for 4 days getting the car was easy But on return it looked as if they where just waiting foe me,they went over the car with a fine touth combe. The only thing that was found was a 1ins scrap on the front wheel,Im sure I did not course this and when shown over the car I took the sales persons word that there was no damage,I would not have seen such a small mark on the wheel. But what realy anoyed me was the charge £80.00 for the repair and £25.00 admin charge. Total £106.00 the… Read Full Review

“Horror Stories Still in 2015 and part of Hertz AVOID”

Written on: 26/02/2015 by damiancollins1965 (1 review written)

I rented a car ref RR 807107346 the car has more damage on it than the insurance excess so paid 96 Euro for nothing, lights not working on car so unable to drive at nigh. Fuel was not full and was told fuel guages are faulty on Peugeot Cars. Dishonest from the get go. Also insurance price quoted was incorrect they say insurance had just gone up 2 days prior. I have read horror stories about car rental in Ireland and Thrifty/Hertz did not disappoint in this department. They lived up to the… Read Full Review

“They delivered the car quickly, which was helpful, but...”

Written on: 26/02/2015

They delivered the car quickly, which was helpful, but unfortunately when the car was delivered it was dark and raining so using my mobile phone's light app I tried to find all of the flaws on the vehicle (I asked the rep from the company to make a note that it was dark and raining). When they collected it, they found "new" marks although nothing ever happened to the car whilst in my possession and later when I asked for the four reports from when the car left the shop, when it was delivered to… Read Full Review

“SHODDY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POOR COMMUNICATION”

Written on: 24/02/2015 by Keaton117 (1 review written)

Took months of e-mails to Thrifty from myself and the Central Florida Expressway Authority to waive a toll penalty that should never have been levied (cash lane was closed and I had no alternative but to go through the pass/pre-paid lane). Obvious that whoever I contacted was not reading the e-mails properly as they kept asking me how I wanted to pay or telling me how I could pay. Even said they had not have confirmation from the CFEA that the penalty should not have been levied, which they… Read Full Review

“WATCH OUT FOR HIDDEN MILEAGE CHARGES IN THE UK!!!”

Written on: 21/02/2015 by ozartemis (1 review written)

We NEARLY rented a car from Thrifty in Scotland. Lucky we combed the T&C because we found a hidden charge there - unspecified potential charges for miles over 500/ week. Note, this was NOT specified UPFRONT in the inclusions / exclusions re the car. We inquired with the branch and were told an amount payable for each mile over 500. We then checked with head office and were told a different amount. Head Office told us that this information was clearly displayed in the booking process. Yes, you… Read Full Review

“Stay away from them”

Written on: 31/01/2015

I will begin by stating that my car rental was at Thrifty in Cancun, Mexico. I know that your first thought is, "Oh well that's Mexico". Can we really let Thrifty off the hook just because it wasn't in Canada or US? Here's my experience. I will start off with the 2 minute review of the vehicle when handing it over to me, compared to the 20 minute microscopic inspection that resulted in a charge for a smudge on the plastic by the trunk. The funniest part was that when I started comparing the… Read Full Review

“Over charge ”

Written on: 24/01/2015

We rented a car in Orlando Florida for 12 days for our holiday in November 2014. We booked through an agent in the UK and received a pre paid voucher. Collection and drop off was fine, nice car suitable for our needs. Staff just ok not overly friendly but the branch was small and located in a hotel. The problem arose when we came home and received our credit card bill 4 weeks later. The price of the car should have been $200, all inclusive, however we were charged over $800.00. No… Read Full Review

“courtesy car”

Written on: 22/01/2015 by Lisa6236 (1 review written)

A few months ago Ford organised a courtesy car for me via Thrifty. They have been a nightmare to deal with. Charging for damage to a car that was not there when I dropped it back at the dealership and claiming the diesel tank was not full to the top so charging in total an excess of £261.00 which, they took out of my bank with out me knowing using my debit info given when the car was left with me… Read Full Review

“DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO”

Written on: 20/01/2015 by AlexisRasmussen (1 review written)

They will not let you rent a car unless you purchase THEIR insurance. I had already purchased insurance and they would not honor. They have a racquet going on at that location. Now told they are owned independently. Was the worst experience. So many unhappy and angry people. Never have seen anything like it. Ended up renting from another agency paying three times what was agreed on in our Thrifty contract… Read Full Review

“Just Awful !!!”

Written on: 07/01/2015

Went to pick a car up from the Burnley office Lancashire , on arrival we were given a completely different car than the on we booked. We were then told that we had to pay a £150 deposit which is not clearly stated on the website, then to add insult to injury they then take a further £150 deposit resulting in £300 being taken from my account. It took at least 10 phone calls from France to sort the matter out. The customer department are useless, they said that it was not there problem and it… Read Full Review

“After 15 successful years renting with Hertz, Europcar...”

Written on: 31/12/2014 by badhirecars (1 review written)

After 15 successful years renting with Hertz, Europcar and particularly Enterprise I was forced to choose Thrifty this busy Christmas period. From Heathrow I chose a one way rental return to Worcester office. On returning, the lady told me there was a scratch on one of the alloys and I would be charged 85 pounds. I knew this was pre-existing and I argued. Next thing I knew they had four people studying the car. Suddenly there was a second wheel accused of damage, a missing hubcap found and to… Read Full Review

“Thrifty? Not at all! Total Rip Off! ”

Written on: 22/12/2014 by pmSkinner1973 (1 review written)

I booked a family sized car from a Thrifty. On arrival they tried to fob me off with the smallest car I ever saw. When I refused I got some smart comments about it being thanksgiving and what did I expect? When I refused the small car they made me pay full price to upgrade. I had no option otherwise I would have been left without a car. They also made me pay upfront for fuel at an elevated price saying I had no option and had to bring it back empty. How is that possible? When I tried to… Read Full Review

“Cheapest but awful”

Written on: 15/12/2014 by SeamusDobson (1 review written)

I used Thrifty as they produced the lowest price on the rentalcars website. First a long wait for their irregular pick up bus. Then a long wait to collect the car. Then once paperwork done, another long wait while it was "cleaned". When it eventually arrived it was dripping (not a problem), but coated in mud! I don;t even care that it was muddy particularly but I was annoyed having to wait 15-30 minutes for it to be "cleaned" and then given the dirtiest hire car I have ever seen. They also… Read Full Review

“Glasgow airport - nice new car”
