“Charges under the radar”

Written on: 27/09/2016 by Palmeras327 (1 review written)

Booked on-line, picked up at JFK. It was when we got to the desk at JFK that all the extra charges came out and we were put into a position where we couldn't say no. After all, it was either accept the additional charges or be stuffed to drive to Chicago. None of the extra charges were explained on-line at time of booking. When we dropped the car off at the end of the trip, the office had closed for the day and they charged us for an extra days rental even though it was them that were closed… Read Full Review

“Smooth and efficient car rental in Malaga Airport”

Written on: 12/09/2016 by Foxe (1 review written)

Even though I did nor rent direct with Thrifty, I used Argus Car Hire, I had no problems with Thrifty in Malaga airport. I arrived at about midday, showed my voucher to the agent and completed the paperwork in about 7 minutes. I had ordered a Seat Leon but was upgraded to a Hyundai Tuscon at no extra charge or fuss. The whole experience was smooth and efficient, exactly as it should be. The SUV was clean, full of fuel and only cost me €40 to refill for a stay of 12 days, great value… Read Full Review

“AVOID DOLLAR THRIFTY based at The Sheraton Hotel Heathrow”

Written on: 11/09/2016 by scottm78 (1 review written)

AVOID DOLLAR THRIFTY based at The Sheraton Heathrow Hotel AWFUL AWFUL service, took an hour to collect me from T5 with their "Shuttle Service" then an 1 HOUR & HALF to finally drive away from there. The car wasn't even washed once I was finally accepted for the hire after being given the rubber glove treatment !!! Just APPALLING. Then had to wait for nearly an hour to hand the car back - REDICULOUS. Called a taxi to get back to T5 as the "Shuttle Service" well I think you've guessed....... Go… Read Full Review

“Thrifty by name - con-artists by nature”

Written on: 08/09/2016 by 416Newman (1 review written)

We rented a Ford Fiesta from Perth to Carlisle on a Saturday morning. Had to rush as the Carlisle branch kept ringing us to say they were shutting at 12.30pm. Arrived at 12.20pm, but didn't get the chance to refill the half a tank of fuel we had used. Was told they would charge £1.25 a litre which I was prepared to accept as in a rush. Needless to say they have charged way more - basically a full tank at £1.52 a litre. No response from Customer Service. I am reporting them to Trading… Read Full Review

“Rip of Thrifty & Hertz France ”

Written on: 21/08/2016 by Nute (1 review written)

I rented a thrifty car in Marignane, Marseille. 1. they wanted to charge me a 100 euros for a GPS that was part of the car 2.They were very rude and arrogant, when I pointed it to them. 3. I had to return the car by 9 am, on appointed day. Forest fires around the airport had caused the motorway to be blocked and an 10 km gridlock. There was chaos chaos everywhere, as they had to give priority to planes dumping waters on the fires. As I had set off with plenty of spare time, I was only a… Read Full Review

“Rip off merchants”

Written on: 13/08/2016 by luffenhamblade (1 review written)

I had bought insurance, told them, showed them and yet they would not let me take the car without paying for their insurance. "Don't sign" you say. Well the car was pre paid and I was on a road trip so what was I supposed to do? Call the cops? Is this really how these guys work? Avoid at all costs… Read Full Review

“A very nice experience”

Written on: 25/07/2016 by Harris-Altke269 (1 review written)

Hired a car from Thrifty at Heathrow (Sheraton Hotel). The staff were very friendly and helpful; upgraded the car; showed me the way around the controls, and even supplied bandages and concern when I cut my head when loading our luggage into the boot. When returning the service was fairly quick and the car was signed off quickly. a small issue when the bus to the airport could not take all the people waiting, but another vehicle was quickly arranged. All in all a very good experience; and very… Read Full Review

“Do not hire a car from Thrifty at "Stansted Airport"”

Written on: 22/06/2016 by Nuriamelbourne (1 review written)

Booked a car to collect at Stansted Airport at 5pm. We followed the signs for car rental and got the shuttle to the car rental village. Thrifty DO NOT operate from Stansted Airport. The man at the Hertz counter kindly rang them for us and said they would send someone to pick us up. We waited an hour by the side of the road and had ta call a number of times before we were picked up and taken to a shed behind a distribution centre in a village called Great Hallingbury. Once there we had to… Read Full Review

Innervationspilates's Response to Nuriamelbourne's Review

Written on: 22/07/2016

Rest assured I will never use dollar or thrifty car rental. We recently used thrifty in Chicago- the service was the laziest I ever seen with no desire whatsoever to get the Customer served promptly and efficiently- we had to wait close to a half
Hour for a shuttle to pick us up and at least another 45 min to get our Vehicle. However thank you for the shuttle driver who was an angel. A Shuttle by the way which ran 1 time per hour- a 10 min drive to ohAre - on of the busiest airports in the US. Pay the extra money- by the time dollar/thrifty adds on stuff savings
Are minimal - not worth the stress.

“a great experience!”

Written on: 20/06/2016 by Rissele (1 review written)

This was the second time I have used Thrifty and with no other car rental company did i have the wonderful experience that I had with Thrifty at JFK Airport. I had an unusual situation and it was swiftly and compassionately dealt with by the manager! He came out of his office and directed a very sweet young woman and the problem was solved in literally less than 5 minutes. It is very evident that he is a dedicated and skilled Thrifty manager intent on making the customer happy. Next… Read Full Review

“Use someone else!”

Written on: 17/06/2016 by rnMaxwell241 (1 review written)

Customer services people specifically guided us away from scratches on the alloy wheels to bodywork scrapes. I took photos just in case- when I returned the car they charged me £150. Best use someone else as it came across as an on going scheme… Read Full Review

“Outstanding staff”

Written on: 03/06/2016 by TomBarrett1 (1 review written)

I would like to commend the staff at the Budapest Thrifty car rental facility. After a rental, I forgot my glasses in the swing down eyeglass holder above the driver. I contacted the office a week later, Attila Karpati and his staff went out of their way to help me. They found my glasses, and Attila took the trouble to take my glasses to the post office, package them, and ship them back to me in the U.S. That is well above and beyond the call of duty. He was helpful, polite, and caring. The… Read Full Review

“A rip off”

Written on: 24/05/2016 by Holbrookut201 (1 review written)

No insurance cover. And overcharge. A rip off. Just return BMW x 5 to Heathrow Thrifty. At beginning of rental, refuse me for any insurance cover. Charge me for 2000 pounds straight ahead as deposit. At return, find a scuff at alloy. Charge me 85 pounds. Find a 10 cm tyre cut for front tyre of R20. Charge me 600 pounds… Read Full Review

“Overcharging for no reason.”

Written on: 17/05/2016 by AlessandroBuondi (1 review written)

We rented a car via Economycarrental for 10 days for 184.89 EUR. On arrival at Eindhoven airport the car was not ready yet so we were offered another, diesel, car for 5 EUR per day extra. Weeks later the credit card receipt shows a total of 279.49. Three emails later from Hertz and not Thrifty, who initially rented us the car, we were told they had to charge extra costs as location fees and tax. Bad customer service. Bad communication. Next time I will go somewhere else for sure… Read Full Review

“Tower Bridge Branch in Tower Bridge”

Written on: 11/05/2016

I hired a car from Thrifty Tower Bridge. Car was good, service was good, everything fine until I dropped it back. The guy who checked it went straight to one of the front tyres, rubbed some grease off the alloy which was right next to the tyre, and said "look there's a scratch here". He didn't check any of the other tyres, he knew immediately where to look for the "damage". I made it clear that I hadn't caused this damage, but they insisted in deducting £85 from my damage deposit… Read Full Review

“Charged twice. No response from Thrifty”

Written on: 21/04/2016 by RER152 (3 reviews written)

Hired a Thrifty car through Rentalcars.com paying for an extra driver and a full fuel tank for collection at Atlanta, USA in October 2015. On returning the car, Thrifty charged us again (about US$800 as it was a four week hire) for the 2nd driver and refuelling and despite e-mailing them at the time to complain, I have yet to receive a response, let alone an apology. After referring the matter to my credit card company and Rentalcars.com I eventually received a refund but think this was… Read Full Review

“Absolutely dishonest and rip off company!!”

Written on: 11/04/2016 by Guru007 (1 review written)

We booked a medium size car from Plymouth to Heathrow 3 weeks ago. During the inspection the chap from Thrifty made a detailed note of all the scratch marks on the wheels and body of the car. During the drop-off at Heathrow office I was charged 250 pounds for the scratch which was already documented on the inspection sheet from Plymouth. The customer service was absolutely useless and the man incharge was very arrogant as well. Since I was in a hurry and to board a flight, he agreed to discuss… Read Full Review

“Total rip off”

Written on: 01/04/2016 by JG777000 (1 review written)

Can't quite believe how this 'company' can get away with charging $700 online for a 'mustang or similar' , inform me once arrived in Orlando airport that there are $1000 worth of insurance/taxes still to be paid and that, seeing as I wanted a mustang, I may as well pay an extra $300 to get one, apparently the original $700 car was only standard and they weren't quite sure why it says mustang or similar online. Absolute joke. I've emailed customer complaints twice and have heard nothing. Will… Read Full Review

“Being over charged for fuel”

Written on: 19/03/2016 by JerimiahGonzalez303 (1 review written)

November 2015 We hired a car on line for pick up at Rome Ciampino Airport. All went well until, when on the return journey to the airport, the vehicle refused to start following a stop at a service station for a coffee. As the mechanic sent out could not get it started, we were taken to a local garage from where we took a taxi to the airport. This whilst traumatic was no real hardship and thrifty have, as agreed repaid us the taxi fare. However what it did mean was that we were denied the… Read Full Review

“We reserved a Full size vehicle from Thrifty online...”

Written on: 02/03/2016

We reserved a Full size vehicle from Thrifty online for pick up at the Denver Airport two months in advance and paid a $700 deposit. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle we were told that the vehicle we had reserved was not available and had no choice but to upgrade to a larger vehicle for and additional $25/day. When we returned the vehicle at the end of the week, we were told that they had no record of the $700 deposit, my credit card would be charged over $1500, and no one on site could… Read Full Review
