Accounts with ICICI Bank are a nightmare, especially when they go dormant. One of mine went dormant, and I had to complete a round trip of 90 miles, produce passports and proof of address, and would you believe, make a statement of why I wanted the account reactivated - like I wasn't being reasonable in wanting access to my own money. The ICICI website reassuringly says something along the lines of "Your money in a dormant account will always be your property or if you die it will become part of your estate" ...maybe they get customers dying of old age waiting for accounts to be reactivated.

More worrying is the fact that ICICI gave me no indication that the account had actually been closed, and I was given no warning that closure was imminent. The problem is that they have no concept of customer service, and the levels of beaurocracy within this Indian bank might be a new and interesting experience for customers of UK banks.

The other problem I've had related to the extreme length of time it takes to clear funds deposited to the current account. One over-the-counter deposit at an ICICI branch took nearly 2 months - yes, months, to clear because of some admin error in the bank, and a deposit made to ICICI through my Lloyds bank took several weeks. To cap it all, the Visa debit card was not accepted in India.

I'm sticking with them for one more try, as I think things can only get better, but my advice to anyone considered starting up with them would be to think carefully, and be prepared for advantages to be cancelled out by problems in managing the accounts.

The service of ICICI bank is very poor and unfriendly. These people are only there to rip our money. I am having an NRE account, most of the time the internet site doesn't work. Some times there is break in the site and you don't know if the money is transfered or not. The staff is so unfriendly and rude. They just keep of shifting the blame to other departments.

Finally I decided to close down the account after loosing few thounsand rupees. The best way I found is to withdraw most of the money ...

Disappointed because ICICI Internet Banking is crawling like a tortoise which never could reach its target on time and guess what "They fill money at the ATM when most of the customers are on queue and we wait there to get their work done for 30 or more mins." Why can not they do these at night? Does not make a sense at all.

To update any readers of my issue and to be perfectly fair, the money did arrive in my account the next Monday as the operator said it might; but the emails explaining the glitch in payment are still somewhere in cyberspace...

I am concerned. I ordered the transfer of 5K to my linked British account last Tuesday evening on the internet, accepting that it would not be actioned until the next working day when asked by the website. No problem logging on or actioning this. The site said explicitly it would take three working days for transfer.
By late Friday afternoon, no money had appeared in my linked account, nor would their website log me on any more using exactly the same details. I tried again later and the link did ...

I'd advise to stay clear of ICICI. I found it really difficult to do what you want (transfer money into and out of) via the internet and getting hold of the "account manager" is not reliable via the Internet. Whilst they offer a top rate interest rate, I will now go for a slightly lower rate in a company that has an online system that works.

Having completed an application for a Hisave account, I pressed 'submit' and received a message saying that I had reached my maximum numbe of attempts and should contact the Help desk.I have sent them an email.

I opened an account with ICICI six months ago and requested online access. They sent me a password and customer ID which did not work online. I called customer services and they sent me another one. This happened seven times and every time I call customer services, they have no understanding of the problem and they keep sending me a new password every two weeks which is still not working! I am frustrated and wrote a compliant letter and they called me after two weeks and they have suggested that ...

I am trapped with a savings account I can't close. I only want to close it because I am not happy with the level of service ICICI Bank deliver since I opened the account a few weeks ago.

I would strongly advise others to steer clear. There are many other players out there who may do a much more professional job, but admittedly offer lower rates of interest. It all depends if service levels mean anything to you.

I get a good rate and transfers are timely. I have no complaints. All runs smoothly without problems. Admittedly I am only a HiSaver, not a current account holder.

ICICI is no longer my dream bank for several reasons. 1. Very.... (can add up to + infinity) unreliable and poor connection speeds. For example, when I tried to do money transfer today (22-July-2008), I had almost spent 2 hours (from 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM), but still I could not complete it. Each page is taking almost 10 mins to load... After so many the trails, I could reach funds transfer only once. Then I entered the details and transaction password, and then waited for 30 mins, but still I coul ...

    1. The default password in the NRI welcome kit was invalid/expired, rendering my account inactive/disabled.

    2. Had to request for reset of password, for no fault of mine, which took about 10 days to arrive, after frantic calls to NRI customer service, who kept on giving a robotic response about the status of the trouble ticket.

    3. Browser Support: Understood from the customer service, the ICICI Web site can handle only requests from IE (Internet Explorer), does not behave well with Firefox. Bu ...

After a month setting up an account, find my first transfer impossible, and no answers to e-mailed questions. Hopeless - the worst internet account I have ever dealt with. I am now withdrawing my initial deposit and closing the account. I hope I don't have too much trouble doing that.

Took 14 days to get anew password. Have been with them 4 months and only tried to access my account twice. Each time couldn't get in. Hence the need to get new password twice. Even after getting a new password it doesn't allow you access immediately (3 times failing and your new password is invalid )
Last time I spoke to ICICI Internet Banking www.icicibank.com on their help line before using my new password for 3rd. time. Gained access and then it is mandatory to change the new password for one ...
