“Darlington Building Society - poor service, poor attitude”

We have had our Mortgage with DBS for several years, in my opinion their staff have always appeared clue-less. Even a basic task such as paying our mortgage with cash in the branch seems to difficult for them, we have to repeatedly tell them the amount, they have to count several times, often miscounting and hardly ever know what change to give. I have recently had two mortgages with Darlington BS and found them to be helpful. They look outside the box which is needed in this market. Their fees are competitive and the current tracker rate remortgage with free legals/ survey is market leading.
I've found them a pleasure to deal with, if you are after a lending institution which has 24 hour helplines where customer services are based in India and you are on hold forever then do not use Darlington. If you are happy with a friendly... (read more)

“The Darlington Building Society Mortgage is not...”

The Darlington Building Society Mortgage is not competitive and home insurance cost toxic. Staff lack experience of anything but basic issues and can't even tell you how much you may have to repay to clear your mortgage balance. Increasing admin passed to customer for enquiries. Very poor. A sad and concerning decline from a mortgage customers perspective - cannot recommend at all. Have been really bad at passing on rates cuts in SVR. Staff appear utterly uniformed re what plans are. Mortgage products offered were once competive are now very poor. Used to be a friendly, helpful society . (read more)
