I'd like to thank Yorkshire Building Society for their complete lack of competence in handling our mortgage application. If you would like your mortgage application to take well over 2 months, and cost you well over £100 in phone calls then YBS are the mortgage provider for you. “Terrible so slow”

Ybs Initial aip took 2 days to be processed by the underwriter then when they called back to say it was approved I changed to 5 year fix had to wait another 48 hours to hear again they said it was ok. No one was available to complete the form that day so they said they would get someone from the branch to complete the next day. “S..l...o...w...very slow”

Applied for my mortgage aplication on 3rd September'14. It was referred as they say most of the applications are referred. Was supposed to hear back in 2 working days but took 4 working days. Then they send the form which I completed and returned to branch 12th September and they would return it to HO with all the documents. “Terrible service. ”

I applied for an offset mortgage from YBS back in February, frequent delays, lack of communication and 2 lost applications mean i find myself still with a mortgage despite an agreement in principle back in March. Nobody at the customer service centre seems to know what is going on and promises for a call back from management go unresolved. 6 months of frustration, wasted time and a lot of wasted money while remaining on my old rate. “Re: Utterly useless.. avoid at all costs”

I choice the YBS as the fixed term deal they had was the best in relation to our LTV. Big mistake our application was pending processing for 2 weeks and after daily calls and excuses by the incompetent staff I was told they have lost this and I had to resubmit. “Unreasonable lending criteria”

I was advised that my ability to borrow would be reduced by almost 50^ as my adult daughter lives with me and is classed as a dependant. She earns more than I do.This is bizarre unfair and quite ludicrous. It was based on a five minute conversation with a young girl who clearly does not understand very much about lending or risk assessment and definitely the Yorkshire is unaware of what a dependant is. “Computer says no!!!!”

We'd been mortgage customers of YBS for 7 years and regular savers in a mortgage offset account with a decent balance. We were looking to move house with a 15% deposit and needed to borrow £150k. “Shambolic”

I've never written a review before but feel I should warn people about this shambolic organisation. Absolute horrendous. We're an existing customer looking to downsize (half our current mortgage). We have never missed a payment and downsizing puts us at 60% LTV. We stayed with YBS to reduce the redemption penalty. BIG MISTAKE! They were great last time (2009). Oh you are soooooo right. The Yorkshire Building Society is a shambles. The worst customer service I have EVER had! They are just a shambolic outfit. Very polite team members but completely ineffectual! Do you think they are bankrupt and can't loan anymore? Is that why they took six weeks to not give me an answer on my application (like the former reviewer to REDUCE my loan size and %). Ugh! Just unbelievable amounts of smokescreens and delays requesting the same information in different formats then saying that they couldn't work on the formats they had sent me/the bank/the accountant etc. Horrendous! Stay away from Yorkshire Building Society if you want efficient, caring and timely customer service.

Painful experience I've had with Yorkshire Building Society. I have an excellent credit reference and applied for a mortgage. Terrible customer service -- staff on telephone support NEVER phone you back when they say they will etc. Even when I went in desperation in person to the Complaints Department in Bradford, the lady responsible for complaints gave me the runaround and dismissed what I'd suffered. “children over 18”

“Awful service!!”

Avoid. The initial application process is smooth but the main application drags on for months. They never call when they say they will, you cannot reach the case manager, they drag their feet at all times. A simply awful customer service too with staff tutting down the phone and being very unhelpful. “Fast and fantastic service”

Before visiting YBS I went read the reviews online and nothing was in favour of YBS. However I tried and visited Leicester office. The service offered by Leicester office is excellent, my application for the mortgage was approved in principle at very first meeting and there after within 2 weeks I got the final mortgage offer. “Hopeless mortgage lending criteria”

Yorkshire Building Society decided not to proceed with my online mortgage application for the single reason that I had been working in the USA for the last 4 years. “Dreadful”

Application for agreement in principle was smooth and service was friendly. But when I got through to the formal application it turned into a nightmare. YBS are unbelieveably bureaucratic and at times laughably ridiculous in terms of the documentation they required, rejecting certified documents because the solicitor's stamp didn't have a phone number on it, and demanding that pdf documents be certified, which meant printing 2 copies and asking someone to confirm that one printout was the same… Read Full Review

It seems that I am not the only one with a problem with their application process. As a previous poster here noted I am a Director of a company with 5 years worth of accounts and have everything in order but having to send them everything with copies signed by my accountants, this still wasn't good enough for them. I had similar terrible experience with ybs. The company should be investigated for extremely irresponsible and cheating behaviour. They have some bad motives as far as I can see. We should do something about the company.

Agreed, I have submitted a complaint via the online section.

No response as yet but I am next going to go to the ombudsman about this. I suggest we all do the same as they can't be made to get away with this.

“Took a month to end up with declined application”

Very poor service. The case manager didn't look at document properly at all and rejected without even looking at them the first time. I appreciate I'm not a standard case as I'm a director of my own limited company, and therefore I pay myself what I need or feel like. In their view I was therefore high risk as dividends was becoming less over the years, even though the reason was my wife was now receiving some of my dividends. They declined my application after over a month and kept on promising me that they would provide me mortgage. They even told me to go ahead with the solicitor. I paid the solicitor and other fees based on their encouragement. The company should be investigated.

“declined solely because married to non-uk national!”

Dreadful service. Despite perfect credit record, declined on a 70% LTV mortgage. The reason for this is because I am married to a Chinese wife --- the fact she has a perfect credit record and is a landlord over a UK property, and has no share legal or indeed equitable in my property was irrelevant. I've just had a similar issue but not paid a fee. They rejected our application because my wife's initial wasn't on a bill asked us to get it put on and still rejected it. Problem is we've wasted over a week with them endangering our house purchase. They like sucking people in with low rates and then finding a reason not to proceed with the application. I'll probably contact the financial ombudsman as they shouldn't be getting away with it.
