I worked at Penhalwyn centre for a number of years until recently when I whitnessed the lack of funding this stable gets.
It relies totally on money until the point where unhealthy horses are neglected to avoid vet bills. As I previously worked there this could all sound a bit bias and slightly dodgey and unreliable to listen too. I'm 16 years old and I helped there from the age of 8 until just over a year ago. It sounds rediculas, but since I left, there would be no way I'd go back after I've seen how the stable has slowly gone down hill. There used to be a small group of girls including myself, who put all their time into looking after these horses. Every weekend and every day in holidays. One by one we slowly grew out of horseriding or bought horses ourselves. Since most of us left the horses are not as well looked after as they used to be. I'm sorry if people disagree with this or pass judgment. I don't reccomend to go there but there arent that many places in Cornwall I would reccomend. Thankyou.

The penhalwyn trekking centre riding centre is fantastic, offering well behaved horses and ponies as well as friendly and helpful staff. The centre offers wonderful opportunities to explore the rural areas on horseback. The centre also regard safety as a priority which gives you peace if mind. For an enjoyable family day out or for lessons this is the place to go!- Read Guest's review (62 words)

Penhalwyn centre a great place to ride all in all. It does look a bit scruffy but that dosn't really matter. there are a wide range of horses which are treated very well. The teachers are reallly realllllly nice. Its does lessons and treks!- Read tazwild's review (44 words)

Penhalwyn Trekking Centre & School, St Ives, is a great place to ride. You kind of get a trek and a lesson in 1 cause you have to walk down to the lesson area!!! The people who teach you are really nice as well. There are tones of friendly horses!!! I think there are too many horses in lessons and they seem to look a bit dirty!- Read Guest's review (65 words)

I was at Penhalwyn Trekking Centre & School for about 5 months before finally giving up as i was hardly progressing at all and i was in a massive group with tiny children. Also when i stayed at weekend to help out i got basically nothing for all the work i'd done (there is a points system) and the other girls my age were really unhelpful and didnt want you to touch "their horses" just because they'd been there for ages.
I now ride at old mill and although it does cost £3.50 more it is MIL ...- Read girlloveshorses's review (248 words)

We were on holiday in St Ives and went for a one-hour trek around the beautiful countryside. We (two adults, two children aged 9 and 6) were complete novices but were treated with respect and offered advice all the time. The instructors were kind and helpful and the girls who lead our children's ponies were lovely, and obviously loved the horses very much. The centre might not be the most stylish place, but the money you pay is obviously spent where it should be - on the welfare of the horses ...- Read Guest's review (125 words)
