“AMAZING PLACE TO BE, WITH AMZING PEOPLE AND HORSES”

Written on: 07/10/2014 by Jess-topaz (1 review written)

Penhalwyn horses are very well cared for,and they are all very kind. Visitors are always welcomed as they come to our yard, the lessons are amazing. The horses are obviously gonna be covered in mud all of the yards horses are, what do u except us to do, well people who ride or look after horses will know that when it has been raining and been winter it's going to be muddy, u go anywhere after it's been raining and the grass will be muddy, and of corse horses do roll. I ride up there Saturdays… Read Full Review

Licence is being reapplied for, was down to the buildings needing updating , which have stood the test of time for over 35 years!!! NOT because of the horses , they were all in fine form..... ask the licencers...watch this space, please, Im sure if you need to know the truth , and not listen to the gossipers out there, please phone the owners for further info.

“Great stables-fantastic staff”

Written on: 28/08/2014 by Nervous1981 (1 review written)

Went here today with my little girl. I havent ridden for many years and was very nervous to say the least. My horse came out-a giant! I almost let nerves get the better of me and didnt get on. However the lady agreed to let me mount last so I didnt have long to wait. She helped me all the way, talking and reassuring me. My little girl is a competent rider but was nervous as shes used to horses at our local stables. This was no problem, a member of staff walked with her all the way. I was walked… Read Full Review

“ find another stables”

Written on: 09/08/2014 by SaniyaBuchanan228 (1 review written)

Not the place it was a few years ago and the way its going dont think it will be there long. The stables is on it last legs. Horses are being sold off to pay for debts. A few old ponies are still there just incase someone turns up for a ride. Parents have advised the owners of bullying but the owner doesnt know how to handle it so lots of kids hv left Livery part is a joke. You pay 18 pounds aweek to keep your horse there and use of outdoor sand school. You dont get yr own field or… Read Full Review

“PTC”

Written on: 25/07/2014

Penhalwyn Trekking Centre is situated in a really lovely area, with lots of beautiful places to hack, which makes it ideal if you're looking for the odd ride. However, if you're looking to ride on a regular basis it may not be the best place to begin. This is not due to the horses however. Teaching varies depending on who takes the lesson, where the lesson takes place and how many people are in a lesson. The lessons become repetitive after a while and begin to become boring. My riding did… Read Full Review

“OWNERS DONT HAVE A CLUE HOW TO RUN THE BUSINESS”

Written on: 08/06/2014 by 153Gray (1 review written)

Had a good laugh about the good reviews at penhalwyn stables which have come from 12 year old girls and from the owner. The kids are dropped off and left there for the day. It is become the most bitchest stables ever. Everyone knows everyone's business due to the owners wife who tell everyone business and who owes money. She also likes to humilate the girls on facebook!! Several of the younger staff will give you their negative comments on your riding skills The owner hardly worms his… Read Full Review

“Shambolic. ”

Written on: 29/01/2014 by BillyJoe91 (1 review written)

If people spent less time with the horses and more learning how to spell then perhaps these reviews (Both positive and negative) would carry more credibility. As it stands the place sounds like it's just full of illiterate and bickering teenagers… Read Full Review

“Complete rubbish, didn't learn as much as they say ”

Written on: 18/01/2014 by Horse-lover1 (1 review written)

I liked the yard at first, but the more you go the more you get treated like a 2nd citizen. The horses are stood in mud all winter, some livery horses are neglected and the business owners don't do nothing about it. When horses are need of certain care they don't get the requirements they need, one day those stables are going to fall down, gates are coming off, they have to many horses that they are only on pony nuts so they don't get the nutrition they need. The money they want for the horses… Read Full Review

“bitchy”

Written on: 09/12/2013

Penhalwyn is a lovely stables with well looked after horses, i had improved greatly but the bitchyness is TERRIBLE, if you are thinking of starting as a regular and staying the day, i DO NOT recommend it. people judge your riding and just constantly put you down and gossip. the most they will do about any of it is say stop. there are some real lovely girls, but i don't trust any really. the place isn't very tidy really could be allot better, the barn is used as an indoor school and all the hay… Read Full Review

“Best yard in the world!”

Written on: 28/10/2013

Penhalwyn is an amazing yard. The horses are well cared for and loved very much by everyone. The staff are always so funny, friendly and helpful. Its a great place to go for weekly lessons or just the occasional hack. The lessons are great and your do a wide range of things from flatwork to jumping. Whenever its raining you ccan always ride in the barn and do fun activities such as bareback lessons. The hacks are great, with a wide range or contry side, road and moors. “Penhalwyn Trekking Centre and School”

Written on: 10/05/2013 by rebeckyloveshorses (1 review written)

Penhalwyn is AMAZING! After a few years of not riding due to illness, I recently spent 7 months at another nearby riding school and decided to move as I wasn't progressing and it was a lot more expensive. I went to Penhalwyn just to ride a friends pony and fell in love with the place. Less than a week later I was having my first lesson there. All instructors are friendly and very helpful and in just a few months I have greatly improved. All the horses are beautiful and are properly cared for… Read Full Review

“I love this place!”

Written on: 26/04/2013

Penhawlyn is the best riding school I have ever attended, and I should know- I stayed there from 9.30-4.00 every Saturday from when I was eight years old,for about 2 and a half to 3 years. I'm attending this ridding school still, even though I have four horses of my own- that's how much I love this place. You will see reviews on this site that say the horses are badly kept, not looked after properly, but they are. They are kept in brilliant condition, and are not treated unfairly or cruelly by… Read Full Review

“Okay for one-off time consumption, otherwise poor...”

Written on: 24/03/2013

I have been visiting Penhalwyn once a year for the past five years or so, I was more impressed as a young child but now I realise the downsides of this so called riding school. I would definitely agree with a previous review that the horses appear poorly kept as they are far too often made to go out on the road for tourists and over the years I've seen many issues with grumpy and inattentive volunteers/staff, disobedient horses, people falling off or otherwise having bad experiences. The… Read Full Review

Jane59's Comment

Written on: 20/10/2013

How on earth can you judge a riding stables on one visit a year??!! That is utterly absurd, especially as it has a whole years program of activities and events.
Once you know the routes of an area this is the same as all areas the world over, what would you like the stables to do?? Create a novel route to the moon??
As for prices, the stables rang around other establishments in Cornwall, and Penhalwyn happens to be the cheapest of the lot.
Penhalwyn may seem expensive if you come but once a year, but if you come regularly (at least every 2/3 weeks) it is only £16 per adult, and £14 per child under 11......if you can find anything cheaper than that in the area I would eat my hat.
You say the horses look badly kept...in what way are they badly kept? Do any look too thin? do they go out without being shod? I think not.
If tack and premises look rather tatty, it is because they have stood the test of time and still function perfectly and have been fully inspected and cleared by the licensing authority in order to operate, we would rather any money spent goes on the welfare of our horses rather than the superficial facade of exteriors.
We value all comments if they are valid, well researched, and accurate.
This review was not.

“Our children love it here!”

Written on: 06/10/2012 by Sarahgodfrey (1 review written)

For the last two years our children have been riding here when we go on our summer holiday to St Ives. Our youngest (just 6) was well looked after on the many times she has been, as have our older children. Yes the stables and buildings are old and weathered but the animals are well looked after, and cared about. We will be returning next year with our 5 children!… Read Full Review

“Place is scruffy, but owners and staff are brilliant!”

Written on: 25/09/2012

Used to showjump at BSJA grade C, but hadn't been on a horse for many years due to getting smashed up in a bad accident not of my making some years ago so I was nervous, I needn't have worried, I was given a very suitable animal to ride. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and owners, lovely people and friendly well trained ponies and horses to ride. I was instantly at home in the saddle and the trek I went out on was superb, everything I knew and loved about horses came flooding back… Read Full Review
