“extra baggage”

★★★☆☆

written by imsyser on 08/12/2015

as an airline it pretty much compares good but not necessarily better than any other. I did buy my ticket through an agency and that seems to complicate things as you cannot do any changes other than through them and this becomes the expensive part other than when away you cannot seem to access certain priviledges like buying extra baggage since the website doesn't allow this and when your agent also tries, this after numerous overseas calls you are running even high costs since the last resort happens at the airline at almost double the costs!!! this is not only unfair to the client but costly and since you are requested to try and claim back costs ( when their systems were down or so they say) no one responds and the agent claims they will only deal with client. now what to do and they claim top 3 / 5 in the industry.

“Great Service”

Travelled with the airline occasionally. Found them to be good and may use them in the future. They need to offer little lower fares. great service, price could be better.

“Not top anymore!!!!”

★★★☆☆

written by DianaT on 06/07/2012

We have been using Etihad airways for 6 years now and graduated to Silver membership, usually flying twice a year. This year, we flew to Thailand from Manchester in March, on our Silver status, but lost this privilege for our return flight in April. We understood, as we had only flown once with the airline in 2011, we had not reached the required tier level, the Silver status was removed. Before we flew in March, we had already booked flights with them for November 2012, as we did not realise this would happen and now have a reduced luggage allowance for that flight.I have to say that when we first flew Etihad we could not believe the services and extras in economy. These are depleting with every recent trip, while fares have jumped in price. My husband who is on my family membership, has accompanied me on all our flights to Bangkok. He was surprised, but pleased, to receive a letter recently, thanking him for being a frequent flyer and had his silver status re-instated. I waited to receive mine….I haven’t? I can only presume, as I have taken advantage of the miles we have accumulated and had reward flights, I am not classed as being a frequent flyer? I also presume that in November when we fly with them, my husband will have increased luggage allowance, can go in the business lounges for our trip, while I have neither? I emailed Etihad guest, Etihad Silver guest and Etihad.com regarding the above. I have re-sent my emails querying this decision 3 times. Not even received an acknowledgment. I get advertising Emails from Etihad, saying how many people have switched to flying with them. Well checking prices for an Easter trip 2013 this is one regular flyer, who has just switched back to Emirates. 30 K luggage allowance as opposed to Etihad 23K in Economy, cheaper flights, better flying times, frequent flyer points to save????..Good bye Etihad

“cutting meal service on long flights”

★★★☆☆

written by on 31/10/2011

This airline seems to make massive cuts the past few years. I think it’s the Only airline that on 7 hours flight offers one meal. The entire plane by the end of the flight was hungry and we only got offered some pop corn.

“very bad service, never again. ”

very bad service, never again.
MAN-ABU-JED-ABU-MAN return. Outbound flight relatively hassle-free. Return flight was a shambles. My advice is if you're going to Mecca to perform Umrah or hajj don't travel with Etihad. Boarding at JED was ok as they allowed us to take one zam zam gallon free with each ticket, once we reached ABU we did a 4 day stop over, when we boarded at ABU to go to MAN our final destination, Etihad said that they can't put the water on and we will have to weigh the water with our cases which meant we went over 10kg and ended up paying £150 as they charged us £15 per kg. When asked why they have a different policy in different country the customer service advisor couldn't answer the question. If you have a Umrah or hajj visa airlines should let on free zam zam water (most airlines do even non-Muslim airlines shame on Etihad). I will never fly with Etihad they don't look after the customer (We make sure that you get all the support you may require.) This is a lie. Etihad don't care about the customers forget supporting them, the seats are very tight the staff in the airport especially in JED and DUB are very rude, the staff are lacking customer service skills. Have travailed with Emirates they look after the customer as well as compromise. Etihad needs to improve dramatically.

Islamabad to Abu Dhabi, flight was cancelled. We were not informed of it. Were asked to come down stairs from departure hall. we thought we were boarding the plane, but instead were taken back to immigration. On customers service I will give them zero. Next day were flown to Abu Dhabi. Were put in a decent hotel. Flight was on time. Plane was clean & new. Food was normal. I have noticed big improvement in cabin service. Over all it was a good experince.

Had to fly during the holiday at much higher cost. The flight was fully packed, with leg room of 30 cm (equal to the lentgth of in flight magazine), and unconfortable seats. The food was OK both legs, but services is less than normal standard. Surely not what it is claimed to be. Will certainly opt for other airline next time

Hi guys, sorry to be a pain again, but I was wondering, if I have my laptop in my hand bag can I carry it like that in addition to the carry-on luggage? Because I read on the Etihad website that you can have your handbag in addition to the hand luggage, but now I was considering that if they weigh it, it might have 5-6 kilos, give than my laptop is a 17inch one. I would really appreciate a fast answer as I am flying on Monday.

Does anyone know if I would be allowed to have my laptop in my laptop bag, as an addition to the carry-on luggage? I am flying from Manchester to Shanghai, with a stop in Abu Dhabi, and in the list with permitted object on board, its a bit confusing. I wouldn't want to be stopped at the airport, and not permitted to board, with all the luggage. Appreciate a quick reply as I am leaving in a weeks time.

I would never fly ETIHAD again, they even blocked me from making comments on facebook. good luck with your flight. Peter

In general, you can. but as for Etihad, it is always unusual.I wouldn't try it if I flight with Etihad. Etihad normally overbook the tickets, so you will come cross some problems with weight and/or number of luggage. Etihad is very strict with their rules(not general European rules).

I live in Yanbu (KSA) and was flying from Jeddah to Bangkok. I forgot the entry exit visa but I tried to manage that 1 hour before the flight leaves but my ticket was cancelled without my information and then when I showed them the entry exit visa they said they cancelled my to and fro ticket and I cannot board the flight as immigration closed 1 hour before and I was left with out any reimbursement also. In such a case I would like to know what steps I can take against them and how can I claim my money back? This happened on E301 flight to Abu dhabi
