Sales team misrepresented tour and SAGA did not support customer. In fact, refused to refund charges for canceled room reservation even though hotel refunded charges to SAGA. Came from USA based on sales team declarations. Support from seasoned SAGA travelers who confirmed tour was sub-par and shared these with SAGA. “Saga twin centre holiday Spain and Portugal ”

First week in Punto Umbria was excellent and of a standard you would expect from Saga. The second week in Portugal at the Holiday Inn in Armacao De Pera is absolutely dreadful. “Northern Thailand”

This was a 10 day tour of Nothern Thailand , the group consisted of 17 people, couples and singles. Hotel accommodation was mixed, hotels in Chang Rai and Bangkok very good standard and interesting one in Soukouthai. But the one in Nan was very basic and not near the town and rather isolated. Tried to book our third long haul this year with Saga. I was unable to do it on line so phoned to book. The reason I couldn't book was because the dates were wrong. Then I found the brochure had the wrong departure airport and we would have to pay an extra £50 each for Heathrow. Next mistake was the extension was only on the outward journey and not for 3 days from £250 as shown in the current brochure, but 2 nights for £400! We have spent most of our savings updating our home and required a bit more money to complete the home improvements, and pay off a relatively small debt. We had calculated this would make us better off as we would have spare money to save up as well as paying off some or all of the interest of any equity release loan. I am due to fly with Thomas cook through Saga to Lanzarote in two days. I noticed I hadn't received any confirmation regarding my medical baggage, which was arranged months ago and they made several repeat calls regarding this that were unnecessary. I phoned this morning and they said they would arrange the rest of my medical baggage. They have arranged part of it butt no medication or other medical items that I need. If you like queues at airports then this holiday is for you! So much flying to get between Tobago Grenada and St Vincent! Check ins and forms to fill and then having to pack spare clothes and toiletries in case the airline (LIAT) might not have our luggage on the plane! The brochure did not tell you all! Once you paid your money and you received the full itiinerary you then realised that it would be different and as the holiday started it got worse! “To the Gulf of Thailand - Brilliant!”

Although this was not our first Saga tour or cruise, this was a first for us to Thailand. From the start, it was all so well organized - from the pick up at the front door (a few minutes early!) to being met at Bangkok airport, it was all as smooth as silk. “Wonderful Saga, so why so many bad reviews?”

I have been travelling with Saga for over 20 years; at least 17 holidays with them, mostly long haul tours, but a couple of short hauls and one hotel based holiday. We don't always use Saga, but they are our first choice when deciding. PROS: Free phone calls with no press button menus. Insurance included. I have a couple of fairly minor medical problems which Saga do not rate me for. Really enjoyed the tour. Hotels were very good and we learnt a lot about Prague, Vienna, and Budapest Rep was excellent and was like a mother hen to us all. We booked this holiday with high expectations, having had a very positive experience with SAGA last year when we did their "Way of St James" trip across northern Spain. “down grading hotels all over the world”

once upon a time the Shangri-La chain was used in China.not anymore.. once upon a time the Tiger mountain lodge was used on tours of Nepal....not now (except as an extension) Slowly but surely the standards of hotels is falling..meals taken in the hotels are now outside at very questionable restaurants, cheap and not so good....Saga is no different from any other tour company, cuts corners and save a dollar here and there...paying field staff less than the minimum wage is not acceptable… Read Full Review

“Limited view of Burma”

I went to Burma with Saga at the end of October, there were 8 people in the group , half of whom were very elderly and complained of the heat, food, length of journeys and ealy starts and hotels. This holiday is described as "active" in the brochure and I think Saga should have questioned the oldest couple as to their suitability for such a holiday as they also needed wheelchair assist at the airports. We had a similar experience with a Saga holiday this year (2014) called "Pousadas of Portugal". We were back at the hotel by 4pm most days (if not before) and our two "full day"option excursions for which we paid extra, terminated at 2.30 and 3.15pm respectively. The evening meal wasn't until 7.30pm so we had 3-4 hours to kill back at the hotel. We couldn't explore alone because they hotels were in remote areas with very little to see around them. For one of our optional trips, we spent more time travelling than actually at the place.

We got the impression that many of the other members of the party had had enough by about 2pm and wanted to go back for a sleep! Everywhere we went we felt rushed, with little free time and an empahsis on getting back on the coach on time. I have taken this up with SAGA and they have said that actually, with these trips out, all you can expect is to see the main highlights and have a lunch and that's it. Well, they don't make that clear when they are taking your money off you, do they?

We are not travelling with SAGA again next year.

“WATCH OUT FOR THE 4 FOR 3 TEMPTATION”

Always remember that with SAGA there is a reason for having 4 for the price of 3. It means the Hotel will be empty during the week but will fill up with locals at weekends and it's like a Zoo. The weather is usually untrustworthy. We experienced the mess that SAGA administration can get you into and we have experienced the way in which SAGA wash their hands of the problems and don't help.
