“Have been dissapointed by this Nokia N95 phone since I...”

Have been dissapointed by this Nokia N95 phone since I got it.
Navigation is hampered by softkeys that seem ultrasensitive, sending you to bizarre places every time you slightly mishit 'cancel' when trying to delete in a text message.
The clunky design, while somethign I originally liked (i'm bored of sleek wanna be futuristic designs), has a lot of edges, gaps and corners which quickly fill with dust - unpleasant.
My biggest bug bear, however, is the battery cover. Flimsy and poorly designed, the clips broke withing a month. I've since met 4 or 5 other people and seen N95s with battery covers similarly selotaped in place.
Interestginly, this was fixed for the 8GB successor, with stronger, better designed clips holding the phone together. Why wasn't this picked up in procut tests when the 8gb was released so soon after the original model?

The Nokia N95 has good battery life and good sound quality. I've had 3 from vodafone all same probs freezing, switching off, I felt that vodafone were poor at sorting what appears to be a common problem with the handset eg they would not supply a different make. Also said the last warranty was water damaged, I do not believe it was. I've had nokias for years probably give it another go with another model no way an n95! Also i would not use vodafone, but have to where i am

The phone looks quite good on the outside but the insides leave a lot to be desired. Have been a loyal nokia fan for a long time, however after this experience I will not be entertaining a nokia for the foreseeable future.

Good screen, good cam, brilliant music player...

Not happy with the battery life, size of the phone is too big for me, it feels like a brick in your pocket in my opinion! The Nokia N95 doesn't survive a spin in the washing machine! Therefore I do not recommend this Nokia Mobile Phone. Dont go for it if you like slimline light weight phones, not recommended.

“Nokia recognises that there is a problem with the GPS...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by waynerrr on 15/09/2008

Nokia recognises that there is a problem with the GPS satnav system and have come up with the "assisted GPS" idea

The problem was that I found the assisted GPS was fine if you were in the city, but once you got into the countryside, rural areas then it became a problem once again.

Assisted GPS is their work-around to poor GPS satnav equipment.
Assisted GPS is NOT "true" satnav. Rather than getting the signal directly from the satellite (as in your cars satnav system), assisted GPS gets its positioning by using ground base stations (Nokia says that it gets it's initial positioning by using these base station and then connects to satellite, I am skeptical of that, I'd love to see their proof of this).

I'll tell you what happened to me & my Nokia N95 (maybe it was just MY phone that was faulty??),

Without assisted GPS the satnav capabilities of my phone was zero.

With Assisted GPS, the satnav at last started to work quite well.

But it was a false dawn, because although in the city all worked well, I wanted to see what happened when I was in more remote areas (country lanes & on a mountain). what i found was that the GPS satnav was useless. It would not find the satellite and location. I ran it alongside my cars satnav. Whereby the cars satnav pinpointed my position wherever i was in the countryside, the N95 failed dismally. After all that hope i was back to square 1.

There equipment must be flawed? Look at the evidence? Why would they come up with assisted GPS?

Where do I start? Terrible battery life, kept crashing - could only restart by taking battery out and re-inserting it, battery cover kept falling off, took it back to t-mobile shop for software upgrade when it came back Nokia said they had not repaired it as it was water damaged! It certainly was not. Had to buy a PAYG handset to see me through to the end of contract. Finally by the time sat-nav had started up and planned a route, you could have walked to your destination. BIG mistake ever getting this handset. Will never again buy a Nokia.

These problems seem to be very common with this phone, Nokia should scrap this model as most problems just cannot be resolved, its very frustrating when your in the middle of a call and the back comes off, battery drops out.

written by teanna on 01/07/2008

Last year I got the Nokia n95 as an upgrade and was initially pleased (well the first 24 hrs) and then the battery went flat. No, I didn't play any games.....when I took it back to the shop they suggested I didn't 1st charge the phone for 24 hrs and gave me a new battery. But hey same problem again and eventually after another visit within 5 days send the phone away for "repairs".
After 1 week the phone was returned and almost immediately started to cut out when I was called (before I could answer) or the screen just froze......and yes back to the shop where staff where admitting sheepishly that the n95 had a software problem but Nokia was working on it....away for repairs yet again.......once i was home i phoned customer services and was offered an immediate replacement set of my choice. Maybe the n95 has improved over the past 10 month, but i wouldn't wish anyone to pay a shed load of money and having to do a lot of running just to get a mobile that works.

★★☆☆☆

written by bailyflah on 31/05/2008

As a victim of the mass advertising on Nokia N95 we rushed in and got 3 of them on our account. Within 5 weeks one phone's microphone died so nobody can hear the user talking. The other two kept rebooting themselves sporadically, whether it be whilst talking, surfing the net etc. They would also freeze and only taking the battery out would correct the issue. Of late, one has started dialing #90#9 over and over by itself, and when its not doing that, it will start playing songs in the library by itself whenever it feels like it, and whilst its doing this, it will try and end all connections such as bluetooth and packet data on the web.

Nokia have not been any help and even suggested that i did something to cause this!

This is the Nokia Flagship model and with so many problems of this nature being reported, one would think that nokia would be trying to get these issues sorted... that doesn't appear to be the case. The phone is a good idea but only on paper... avoid if you need a reliable and stable phone.

The n95 could of been better more memory the applications run so slow you could for asleep waiting, the GPS never walks the wifi can disconnect after 10mins.

The slide mechanism is cheap and flimsy, it is not far from a house brick the N95, I would never recommend the N95 to anyone so am hoping when readers read this they change their mind.

written by Petebu1 on 19/12/2007

Being an Nokia user I purchased the Nokia N95 new unbranded and unlocked 6 months ago - what a disappointment. The phone works great as a standard phone, sms, MP3, etc but to use the majority of features can be frustrating and slow. In fact, I took the phone to the local Nokia store just in case it had a error, unfortunately this was not the case! Although the N95 is packed with advanced features, this in turn does make it sluggish with a tendency to freeze. It really is a great shame, Nokia have tried too hard to do many things and I hope they can resolve the issues with their flagship phone!

“As you can guess from my above points, im not too...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stefan2007 on 27/11/2007

As you can guess from my above points, im not too happy with my Nokia N95.

This phone (first impressions) was in fact very positive (to begin with). To put it short, it does everything!

* MP3 + MP4 player
*5 mega pixel camera
* Sat nav
* camcorder quality video recording
* Big display
* Live internet browsing
* Easy to work with (compared to other Mobiles of the same ability)

Now..heres the problem..
This phone, when working is a masterpiece. But, slowly as i used it, it began to break.

Here is the order of failures:

*Phone speaker
*Display fades (badly)
*Microphone broken
*Aerial damaged (constant loss of signal, slow internet connection)
*Finally, the loud speaker goes

Summary, from the above, all of the phones major functions broke within 4 MONTHS of each other. Considering i had a Nokia 5210 before this phone, it makes the N95 look like its made of rice paper. Also the N95s battery life is nothing less than abysmal, needing a charge every day unless you leave it on standby!.

To summer rise my review of this phone i am sure this is a phone is a lemon of the batch. I however don't recommend this phone to anyone who is used to using durable phones. This phone is strictly for office use and not kids (otherwise it will break)

Judging from this (and my friends Sony Ericsson's) modern super-phones (N95, iPhone) are going to be plagued by reliability issues due to there complexity and small size (think same size a 3310 but does 100times more complex tasks)

I disagree with this review because it sounds like you got a faulty phone. I have had my N95 since it came out over a year ago and never ever had a problem with it. Yes it was a bit slow and froze sometimes but that was until the upgrade!!!!!!!
<br/>V20 is fantastic cant fault this phone in anyway! LOVE IT!

I found my Nokia N95 to be very very slow to do anything other than make a call.

I can't even get it to download to laptop, or play the videos I've just recorded on the phone, the photo's are very slow, in my opinion, the whole thing is just rubbish!!!!!

Very irritating!

My advice is - Don't buy one!
