“Inconsistent”

Written on: 24/05/2015 by Jfergieferg (1 review written)

Baby, Penny and fee others were great. Johnny was absolutely awful. Could have put a high schooler in his place. Baby's dad was almost as bad. Blew the biggest line in the play. Set was boring snd scenes felt disjointed. The 2 soloists are very very good. Added extra political bs that was completely wasteful… Read Full Review

“Great adaptation of movie!”

Written on: 24/04/2015

I saw Dirty Dancing in Providence with 5 friends and we all LOVED the show! Everyone in the audience seemed to really enjoy it. Don't know what others expected, but I felt it was a great adaptation of the movie, which I have watched ?about 50 times! The cast was given a huge standing ovation at the end. We were upset before seeing the show because of the bad reviews, but thought it was great!… Read Full Review

“Uninspiring”

Written on: 11/04/2015 by MadeleineRiley (1 review written)

I saw this last night in Pittsburgh. I wish I hadn't. The acting was terrible. Johnny garbled his words and came across as a thug which made him unlikeable. The entire production felt stiff and uninspiring. The dancing was mechanical and repetitious which disappointed me the most. I could not wait for the show to end… Read Full Review

I agree completely! I also saw the show in Pittsburgh, and was disappointed on the lack of emotion and energy from the main characters. Some of the greatest scenes in the movie received no emotion and enthusiasm from the actors playing Baby and Johnny! The actor playing Johnny had the same monotone voice throughout the entire show.
Also, the added scenes in the play completely ruined the performance as well. The play was 2 hours long, so I think they could have stuck to the movie which is also 2 hours. Very disappointing!

“Painful to watch.”

Written on: 10/04/2015 by BrentCahill255 (1 review written)

No wonder this never opened on Broadway. This script, direction, and even the dance numbers appeared to be written for a high school musical. The water scene that never even gets Baby's hair wet, Scene after scene where the characters are on and off the stage after two sentences,. This production was so choppy that it became comedic. Groan able moments in the bedroom scenes, no chemistry at all between the characters. It seems they had a check list, Intimate… Read Full Review

“Disjointed and uneven”

Written on: 16/01/2015 by FirstSarnt (1 review written)

I found the stage presentation to be disjointed and uneven. It seemed to stumble from scene to scene, with no continuity except the major characters. Some humorous moments and very sensual dancers, though major dance scenes were few and far between. Other than the standout song (Time of My Life), the only other music of note was the outstanding soloist doing "In The Still Of The Night". I am also annoyed by plot holes and dramatic contrivances, such as when Dr. Houseman attends to Penny and… Read Full Review

“Politically Correct Nonsense”

Written on: 04/01/2015 by Blakepf122 (1 review written)

I saw the musical in Atlanta, GA and the producers/directors interjected into the musical a scene of freedom riders (struggling for racial equality) and a recording of a Martin Luther King speech. The bleeding heart liberals can't leave well enough alone. There is no need to to make a political statement and distract from the solid story of the film. The movie was well done. The musical play was not… Read Full Review

“dont waste your time”

Written on: 29/12/2014 by summerluvin (1 review written)

I was so excited to see this show and wow what a let down!! The acting is terrible there was zero chemisty between baby and johnny. My fiance and I were laughing at how bad it was and almost left at intermission. I have been to high school plays that were better than this and the set was a joke! The music is good but that is about it, stay home and rent the movie you will enjoy it more… Read Full Review

“Very disappointed. Don't waste your money!”

Written on: 16/12/2014 by solrays (1 review written)

I'm a dance instructor myself and in my studio we always reference the movie. In fact we love it. Went to Jax FL to see the live performance and was completely let down. The acting was terrible. No emotion whatsoever. The coreography was absolutely laughable and the set design was unbelievably boring, bland and severely undeveloped. We were completely let down by this production. I've seen better performances at our local high school theatre. I was extremely surprised that all of the actors… Read Full Review

“I just saw Dirty Dancing in Atlanta last Sat. It was...”

Written on: 07/12/2014 by nxSmith1988 (1 review written)

I just saw Dirty Dancing in Atlanta last Sat. It was absolutely wonderful. Just like the movie. I really didn't care for the freedom riders part. But everything else was great. Only WISH that she could have made a guest appearence. Was really surprised how the audience reacted when Johnny said "Nobody puts Baby in a Corner". Naturally I cried at the part when he came back and they danced "the Time of my Life". GREAT--GREAT---… Read Full Review

“Unnecessary and offensive language”

Written on: 03/12/2014 by JosieCullen234 (1 review written)

I am very fond of the movie and decided to end Thanksgiving with my husband and I going. Within the first few minutes language that I find offensive was used and ruined the remainder of the show. There were also several scenes followimg that it happened also. I don't see that it adds anything and could have been left out and had a much better affect. If insist on using such language, please keep in mind there are still some that find it offensive so maybe have a censored version. I hate I… Read Full Review

“RSD travel - trail of Alexander the Great - coach holiday”

Written on: 12/11/2014 by jwMcLeod192 (1 review written)

I was attracted to the 7 day holiday by the low price and my interest in Archaeology. I wish I had looked on TripAdvisor before booking. Of course if you enjoy a holiday then it naturally becomes good value, but this holiday starting at about 250 pounds each ended up more like double that, and whats more it was a terrible holiday. The first problem was the flight time which meant we arrived in Antalya airport for about 3am. We had to get to the hotel, have some sleep and then be breakfasted… Read Full Review

“Killed A Classic”

Written on: 03/11/2014 by 388Griffin (1 review written)

I was excited to see how they adapted this for the stage. They didn't "adapt" it, the actors recreated the entire movie word for word. The acting was horrible, Johnny Castle was almost comical he was so bad. The characters had zero depth and were just impersonating the ones we are familiar with. The whole thing felt like a really bad community theater production.

The movie projection was probably supposed to be cool and exciting, but it felt awkward and cheap.

Also, calling this a musical is

“Don't waste your money”

Written on: 12/01/2014 by Remotecontrol (1 review written)

I took my wife to see this 'musical' at the Piccadilly in London. It was truly awful - so awful that we nearly went at the interval but we stayed because we hoped it would get better.......it didn't! The acting was wooden, the sets were amateurish and the singing (apart from the iconic song 5 minutes from the end) was non existent. Don't waste your money on this rubbish… Read Full Review

“Absolutely dire”

Written on: 31/10/2013

If I could give a rating of 0 for this I would. It is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in London and I have seen nearly everything. I have seen better acting, scenery and effort in a local school play. My daughter and I paid £45 each to see this absolute pile of rubbish for my 53rd birthday. I wish we had saved our money! There was no ambience among the cast and it was as if they wanted to get each scene out of the way and off stage as soon as possible. The lead man was ok but… Read Full Review

“Bad episode of Dancing with stars”

“Very Disappointed. Mostly backing tracks. Wooden acting. ”

Written on: 28/07/2013

Visited end of July 2013. Great band but heard little as backing tracks were the order of the day. Poor sets. Wooden acting. Dancing was good. Not like any MUSICAL I have seen before. Paid £65 each for seats and glad we had a pre theatre meal included before the show which softened the blow. The last act was great. Two people singing. Great lighting. Waited until the end of the show to get any feel good factor. No chemistry on stage between main character. Would I recommend. No… Read Full Review

“Not the time of our lives...”

Written on: 09/06/2013 by MollyManchester (1 review written)

Have seen all the shows at MBS since it opened and was looking forward to this one (loved loved loved the film!) - but have to say it was a disappointing affair :( As ever, the tickets are so overpriced in Singapore that the theatre is half empty - especially the seats closest to the stage (the most expensive) - plus we went on a Sunday so had to add on $12 parking! But the empty seats do impact the atmosphere, and maybe the actors confidence because the vocals were not that great from the… Read Full Review
