We have had a lot of breadmakers. We have making our own bread for over 7 years since our kids were born. The Breville BR8L maker broke twice the first time it was replaced no problem. We just dumped the second one and got a panasonic. which has lasted 4 years now. I also looked at reviews and cannot understand why this thing is rated!

This is my third bread making machine - the others are still in use, but now live with other people. Having used the previous machines for about ten years in total, I knew exactly what I wanted out of a machine: normal-shaped loaves, automatic fruit dispenser, 'keep warm' facility that would not mean soggy bread if it was not removed from the machine immediately, well known manufacturer, and durability. (Of these, the hardest to find was a normal-shaped loaf tin). I found all my requirements in ...- Read Guest's review (135 words)

I'd never had a bread maker before and I looked long and hard at on-line reviews. The AWT Breville has been for me an absolute dream and produces excellent bread every time I use it. I had one failure which I think was a result of being next to an open window with a cold draft. As a first time user of these machines, I am delighted thus far (6 months in) with this model.- Read wranglertoo's review (74 words)

A fab bead maker! I have found it simple to use. It makes great bread and is quiet. I often put the timer on so that I wake to fresh bread and the machine never wakes me.- Read lwhite's review (41 words)

Having used a Morphy Richards for years (The model previous to their current tall loaf one). With the only failure occurring due to a power cut. I can honestly say we have not had a loaf from this Breville that you could call good, barely acceptable is about as good as it gets. The underside and sides are more like Rhino skin and always has to be removed. I believe it's baking at to high a temperature- Read Bowedw's review (81 words)

DONT follow instructions in regards to order of ingredients, says yeast in last, trust me it has to go in first, when you follow a recipe read it from the bottom up.- Read khmbaber's review (60 words)

Contrary to the "bad point" stated, the bread tin is shaped so that it makes proper loaves, not tall "towers" as many other bread makers do.- Read davedg's review (68 words)

I bought this bread maker to replace a much loved and used Kenwood BM200 breadmaker that died from over use. I thought the AWT would mean a good product that produced decent bread, how wrong I was. I've never had a decent loaf from it in the 2+ years I've had it and I've now had enough and have ordered another Kenwood. Every loaf I've baked, brown and white has come out undercooked with the consistency of a stone, whatever recipe I've used, either from the book supplied or from one of the oth ...- Read Sue Keen's review (165 words)

I did a lot of searching before buying a breadmaker. I got this one from Anthony Worrell Thompson's online site. It was cheaper here than any of the shops, although I did have to wait a couple of weeks as it was out of stock when I ordered it. However the team sent me a package of Anthony Worrell Thompson's Food delicacies at no extra cost. This machine is a gift to use and will serve the beginner who has never used a breadmaker before, and the more experienced also. Even my Husband uses it, he l ...- Read Bambie's review (170 words)

I have owned the Breville BR8L Anthony Worrell Thompson Breadmaker for just over a year. I had to send it back when the heating element broke down and I got a replacement. Now one of the buttons has broken, so I cannot change some of the options, but it is too much hassle to send it back - you try finding a box and insulation that will fit this enormous thing.
I have experimented with many different recipes suggested in the recipe booklet, but always with disappointing results.
The main ...- Read MachineKnitter's review (222 words)

I have the following points to make regarding the Breville BR8L Anthony Worrell Thompson breadmaker. Good points: When working produces excellent bread both white and wholemeal bread. We haven't tried the gluten free recipes.
Bad points: Breville service is terrible
The silver paint work on the lid peels off making it look very unsightly.
Our first one ceased to function altogether after less than 3 months. The in warranty replacement which tooks 3 months to get started to shed paint withi ...- Read AliceForce's review (196 words)

I bought the Breville bread maker because it said it had programs for yeast and wheat free bread - a bit misleading because they are separate programs but I found that the yeast free program works fine with wheat & yeast free recipes from special recipe books. Friends love the "normal" bread I make as well.- Read touchnotthecat's review (111 words)

I got this Breville BR8L Anthony Worrell Thompson bread maker in Jan 2004 and haven't bought any shop bought bread since! This machine has all the features that I need and works really well. I would (and have!) recommended it to my friends.
NB have rated service and support as 0 stars as I haven't used the Breville support so can't comment.- Read electrolyte's review (158 words)
