Having been with BUPA for the last 6 years I stupidly decided to change my health care provider to Health-on-line. Last month my wife suffered a miscarriage and had to under go ERPC, understandably we wanted to have this done ASAP as my wife and I were obviously very upset. The consultant informed us that he had an opening on the Friday where he could fit my wife in for the operation. I phoned Health-on-line and explained the situation, I thought this would be easy..... It was anything but... (read more)

I visited my GP yesterday as I have been unwell for three weeks he immediately made a consultant referral as I ts him I had health insurance. What a surprise to find that Spire hospital in Cardiff is not listed (around 85%) of consultants here work fr there. The lady at HoL was very unhelpful and stated that they needed a copy of my records and would only pay £20 for them and could not underwrite the claim until they are received. I had to go back rob the GP to request a referral to a... (read more)

I've been insured by HOL for 5 months so far on a family plan and recently made a claim because i was suffering from awful chest pains. quite scary! I called the claims line who were very helpful, they authorised my claim straight away as they had my medical history on file. Lckily the lady who set my plan in place gave me a heads up to get my 5 years medical history sent over sooner rather than later. I went to see a private specialist the next day who sent me off for a CT scan and some... (read more)

hi, i've been with health online for nearly a year now (never claimed so far!) but i got my doctor to fax over my 5 yr records shortly after i joined so it was out the way, done and dusted. i feel sorry for you if your doctor took a few weeks but thats not the companies fault. thats your dr's being lazy. i'm sure the company are wanting to check you are claiming for something new. i suppose they have to do their jobs correctly?
as long as you know where you stand when u take out a policy then all is ok.

Very helpful and attentive when taking the policy. When claiming will use any excuse not to cover you. If you had an ingrowing toe nail they would use it as an excuse not to cover a brain tumour and thats no joke. I feel really bad because two friends took policies with them because of me, I just hope they don't have to claim. Use a proper company! It may cost a few pounds more but you will get what you pay for. (read more)

After years with ppp i was recomended by them to change to health on line for finance reasons. Not long after i joined i was diagnosed with a prolapse and need a hysterectomy.Health on line insists that because i have had water infections in my past history this was related,my doctor and consultant have both sent letters saying it has not caused this problem, when i asked why they still won't pass my claim they said i must of had the symptoms in the past,if that was the case i would have had... I signed up with Health Online about 18 months ago and I couldn't have found a better insurer. They halved my premium, which was a great start. I unfortunately am going through cancer treatment, but the staff have been wonderful. I managed to see the specialist within days and have the growth removed. Everything seems to be ok, but I'm glad I didn't use the NHS as I may have not had such a quick diagnosis to find the dreaded big C. I thought it was only fair to commend this company as... However, the company refuesd to help, as in the past I complained to the doctor about some general issue such as headache, sore throat or dry mouth. Basivcally, any excuse not to pay. I have been with Health on line for about a year now , when unfortunately I had to claim last month for a shoulder injury which has resulted in an MRI scan and surgery. This is still ongoing with Physiotherapy. To be fair, I doubt your employee would be able to see a private specialist at such short notice without booking in an appointment first for a review then booking back in for an operation a week or so later. Sounds like your employee needed A&E and that is the only place to be seen at that short notice. Private medical insurance needs you to be referred by your GP first and GPs dont really work weekends to be able to get the referral anyway. I don't work for HOL but I do work in an intermediary (we dont sell their policies either) but how you think pmi works is not the way it actually does!

It's called underwriting, and you would have been told about this when you were sold the policy. Sorry to sound harsh, but it would have been all in your policy documents. If you didn't take the time to read them, then tough luck.

I'm cancelling the policy I have only had a couple of months. I have just discovered that whilst the price was very competitive, the list of hospitals in London is far from what I would deem to be acceptable. For people outside of London it might be OK so I would just ask the sales person you speak with to confirm where you can go for treatment and where you can't. (read more)

im very surprised that it has taken you couple of months to realise your hospital lists.
i live in london and am looking to change provider , i called these guys the other day and the agent asked me if there was a particular hospital that i would like to use.
if you live in London there are so many private hospitals to choose from.
i took out private healthcare to beat the nhs waiting lists not go into a particular hospital.

Firstly, I had never used medical insurance prior to signing up with Health-on-line. Having had some bad experiences under the NHS in the past with family members I was happy to get myself covered. I was diagnosed with a long term illness soon after setting up and 2 years on its all under control. The process was easy and I never got caught up in the financial aspects of the claim. I checked out Health online on this site after seeing the TV ad for them over Christmas. Obviously a couple of bad reviews on here for whatever reason, but I checked out Bupa on here and they were getting a similar hit. Now, given that Bupa are the one everyone's heard of I took it as read that I'd find out for myself. Just you wait till you try and make a claim. the whole world will change on you. I think it is because they use AXA as their insurer who will use every legal means possible to avoid paying your entirely legitimate claim. These people are crooks - AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOU ARE JUST WASTING YOUR PREMIUM MONEY. Sorry to burst your bubble.

if you actually read your contracts and policy details and ask all relevant questions initially in the grace period that all insurers give you, then it is not anything to worry about because then if it doesn't meet your requirements then you can cancel. its people who don't understand their individual policies that put the bad remarks!

I was wary to leave Bupa because I had been with them so long, but their premiums just went up and up even though I hadnt made a claim, so it became a case of having to leave them or use the NHS, and there was no way I was going to do that.
