William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist is one of my favourite books. I have read it so much that the cover feels soft. I'm not a huge fan of the film and I don't think that the book is that similar. There is so much more going on in the book that is not covered in the movie version.
The story of a young girl who is possesed by a evil demon is only part of the book, what The Exorcist really is about is Father Merrin and his struggle with his faith against the black arts. The characters are beautifully written and well rounded so that in the end I normally end up crying. If you've seen the film but never thought of reading the book, please do.
