“OK ish if you only want to do a couple of trades a year.”

Written on: 23/04/2014

After just a few months with Iweb I got fed up with being sent to NT (negotiated trade) time and time and time again. This is where Iweb wont give you a buy or sell price at that time. Instead you let Iweb supposedly get the best deal they can at the time. What you're really doing is giving Iweb permission to get you a lousy deal, and they will, trust me. For a few quid more you can do much much better. Iweb does not even work out cheap in the long run considering the lousy NT prices. Moved to… Read Full Review

“A terrific start for iweb”

Written on: 10/04/2014 by TruroTrader (1 review written)

I have just opened a stocks and shares ISA with iweb. Prior to this I have used Halifax Sharebuilder for the last nine years and Halifax shares ISA last year. This is the same platform as iweb. I have used Halifax's regular monthly buying plan about a 150/200 times and only did I have a query. Every buy or sell trade I have done has always gone through on the price I clicked on and you can print the Contract note within a minute or two. I probably do some 10/20 trades a year. I opened… Read Full Review

Trurotrader's Response to TruroTrader's Review

Written on: 16/04/2014

I'm not to certain what went wrong here. I use iweb and the Halifax Dealing Service which iweb actually uses. iweb since this Tax Year and Halifax for 9 years

On both services when you go to the dealing section you enter the stock and the amount of shares or cash of what you wish to buy or sell.

When you hit the Buy or Sell button you get a message saying " We are contacting our extensive counter-parties please wait a few seconds". You then get a firm price quote. This lasts for 15 seconds. You accept or decline. If you decline nothing changes but if you accept then you are given a contract reference. If you then click on the reference you can print out the legally binding contract then and there.

This whole process can take less than two minutes - Simples!

I am gradually changing to iweb because the dealing costs are less.

However iweb does not offer a regular purchase option (say £100 a Month) and Halifax does. When you use this service you get the price that Halifax obtains and the deal goes through on that basis but dealing costs are small.

Also if you sell or buy "At Best" you get the deal they got you. The actual choice of how you deal is up to you.

I hope this helps

“Slow trades”

Written on: 05/02/2014 by sebastiz (1 review written)

The trades are really slow. You sell a share at what you think is a decent price and it is executed sometimes hours later with a real risk of losing a lot of money as has happened to me. I suspect that they take the difference as I cant believe that in a computerised world it takes that long to execute a trade. As another reviewer has commented they execute quick but tell you the lower sell value later. I wouldn't trust them. Perhaps this is a platform for the long term investor but its… Read Full Review

“Dropping Standards”

Written on: 10/01/2014 by Quest4Truth (1 review written)

Used IWeb for a few years. Tried to sell some shares recently online. Problems with there computer systems unable to give a live market price, problems with their online assistance facility and hidden charges when I completed the transaction, they've also introduced a £25 application fee which they deduct when you first trade. Not impressed at all… Read Full Review

“Share dealing for the 17th Century”

Written on: 24/10/2013

This Iweb/Halifax share trading offer is living in the dark ages still. They seems to think the postal service is a secure and trustworthy service. More so than E mail or even speaking to you their valuable client does not count...that oh so important password has to be sent via the postal service.....OMG!! It does make you wonder how rubbisah this business is when they can not even fathom out the simple secure way to 'securely' get a new client up and running. E mail is the most secure way… Read Full Review

I have held my shares with this company for many years now and I have never had any reason for complaint. Their service is prompt, excellent and despite this is still very good value.

You will find that most of their communications are by email once you have set up your account.

“Example of inefficiency”

Written on: 07/10/2013

Just submitted an application. As already mentioned by some other users I've been asked to reach a branch and show my ID. I ask for a 3 hour permission from work, I go there, waste 3 hours, show them ID and proof of address. After a few days nothing happens. I try to contact them and after waiting hours at the phone I manage to talk with a rude guy who tells me that they did not receive anything (despite having called them when we sent the fax and confirmed the receipt of everything). So then I… Read Full Review

“Cheap because they are rubbish”

Written on: 27/09/2013

Tried to open and account, found out after many phone calls it would only be possible to open if I went into a Halixfax branch and showed my ID (which I already sent off). No communication from iWeb on this, ended up closing the account as I would not want the same people dealing with my shares… Read Full Review

“iweb, mmmmmmmm”

Written on: 25/09/2013

I've been using iweb now for over three years. And as such know their IT systems are very poor. I have had several complaints upheld and so write to warn others about their service now. Firstly, they had to cut the amount of time you were logged in for from 15 minutes to 10 minutes because their systems couldn't take it. Secondly, I've had issues when attempting to buy shares where I've put in a value and the system has wanted an actual amount. Thirdly, only today in fact, I went for a… Read Full Review

I would like to add, I've just had the complaint upheld in my favour. It does appear to me that although there are some good people in iweb, it is a matter of luck if you get a competent one to deal with any issues you may encounter.

“Simple”

Written on: 06/09/2013 by zlss116 (1 review written)

Nice and straightforward site. You get what you pay for so with a £5 commission figure I wouldn't expect a beautiful website with fully interactive reviews and news etc. However, there are so many sites out there, which can give you this. If you someone, who like me buys a small number of shares each year this service is perfect. If you are going to trade 10+ stocks a month then maybe head for HL. But for me it has been perfect… Read Full Review

“Rubbish!!! They never let you sell or Buy when you want.”

Written on: 28/08/2013

I was pulled in with low £5 commission. They always stop the realtime trade when your prices are moving up & wouldn't let you sell directly- instead they force you to make a negotiated deal. Which always happens 10-20 mins later when you have lost all your money & your share's value plunges down!!! Whats the trick???- 1) they sell your the shares at the higher price that you wanted. 2) They come back to and say , we sold your share at 20 to 30% less than what you wanted & they keep the… Read Full Review

“Great value”

Written on: 25/07/2013 by guineapig (3 reviews written)

Been using one of the biggest platforms for years but decided to try Iweb, in addition, purely on basis of dealing costs for shares & Investment Trusts etc. Been using it now for 8 months - not the most intuitive interface but everything is there. Maybe not the choice of funds that the other platforms have and many have upfront fees, but chose carefully and the experience is positive. Cost effective & highly recommended… Read Full Review

“Perfect For A Novice”

Written on: 21/03/2013 by Noviceinvestor (1 review written)

I am a complete novice having never invested in shares before. I choose Iweb because it is by far the cheapest to carry out trades at just £5 per trade. The up front £25 was something I was happy to pay to not have to worry about ongoing fees/inactivity fees in the future as this eats into your investment returns. Once you're signed up (self-selecting stocks & shares ISA for me) I was able to deposit via debit card & start trading immediately. The interface is very simple to use & self… Read Full Review

After reading some negative reviews on here I was not sure if I was going to regret moving my trading to iweb. Now after 3 months I can honestly say I'm glad I did. I have saved money on trading fees and they have executed my limit and stop bids without fault. I haven't used all the facilities they offer such as CFDs… Read Full Review

“Cheap ”

Moved to iWeb due to two reasons. 1. Cheap £5 to buy or sell 2. ability buy shares for NYSE. what i like the website is very basic, was easy to use. easy to put money in, buy shares. no annual charges. regular investment is every few days and they only charge £2 unlike other share companies who have it once a month. what i dont like the reason however i gave it 4 stars out of 5 stars as i had forgotten my password and had to phone them up, first time i rang it just rang a bit and then… Read Full Review

“Used for two buys - simple, but slow, missed out on...”

Written on: 11/02/2011

Used for two buys - simple, but slow, missed out on the best price but for small amounts, so carried on.

On holiday in thailand, and my account has been frozen for 3 days 'while they investigate'. If they don't get through to me by phone they will write, meanwhile one of my stocks is in freefall.

I thought this was iweb, hence an email would have realy helped in this situation, I've been in thailand for 6 weeks so nothing new from an access point of view. Not recommended for anything other… Read Full Review

Gambling is illegal in Thailand, if they consider share dealing gambling then maybe that was why you could not access your account?
