So the message is loud and clear: Next’s quality has fallen off, the new designs and fabrics haven’t been properly tested and the customer service is below par. The most common complaint (and I think we can blame Covid) is late delivery. But most numerous are the references to ‘puddling’ and ‘puckering’, ‘sliding’ and ‘twisting’ of the cushions in the Stanford range.

“Less than 3 weeks old!! ”

We bought 2 green velvet ashford extra firm sofas. Drlivery service was excellent. The sofas are not even 3 weeks old, sat on a handful of times since delivery and the back cushions are awfully misshapen, sunken and lumpy. Ive taken the inside out and plumped every day for the past 4 days, made no difference. One of the sofas has started to creek already! I would not recommend these sofas based on the issues so far. Which is a shame because the colour and fabric are beautiful, the seat cushions are firm but comfortable. If id have known the back cushions stuffing were of such poor quality, id have purchased from elsewhere.

“Next Erin Sofa”

oh lovely fabric, shape and style but seat cushions are made from a substandard chopped foam. The technician came out and told me I had to bounce the cushions on each side plump up the middle is every single day. I expected the cushions to be comfortable and look nice. Have been having an ongoing complaint with Next for several weeks, all they could do was send me a hard piece of foam and given I wanted a soft seat this is hardly adequate, very cross and disappointed don’t buy it .

Oh how I wish I had read your review before I bought Erin sofas recently . My seat cushions dip into the centre and I had technician out on Frid who told me same thing “plump up cushions every day after use” ..very disappointed as sofas are not cheap and never had to do that with previous ones . Have emailed them back but certainly will not be recommending as yes I wanted soft sofa but not one that I end up sitting in the middle ..

“Wilson sofa from Next poor quality cushions”

Took delivery of Wilson sofa on 6 August 2023, it looked great and felt comfortable, however when I stood up there was a bottom-shaped imprint in the cushion that didn't completely bounce back (I weigh under 9 stone). After 3 days of having to smooth the cushion every time it was sat on I'd had enough and contacted Next who arranged for a technician to attend. In the meantime I found out that Next have recently changed the composition of their firm sit cushions and they now have a layer of memory foam top and bottom and although it gives a softer sit it was probably the reason my cushions looked constantly wrinkled. I would have liked to keep the sofa and have the cushions replaced with a non-memory foam option but this wasn't possible and I've arranged to return the sofa for a full refund. It's a pity Next don't offer a choice of cushion (they have in the past). I'll have to buy a sofa from another retailer, which is a shame because Next have great styles and fabric choice. I must add that the customer service regarding my complaint was excellent.

“Corner settee disappointing ”

The quick delivery was impressive despite it being just before Christmas. And it looks 'the business'. However the seat cushions sink and offer no support..I have to stand up after an hour as am almost horizontal! They also slide forward and need pushing back into place. Very disappointed. We've had this settee just 6 weeks and it cost over £2,200!!!

“Very poor quality cushion inserts”

Bought Stamford chaise and heath 3 seater and snuggle less than 2 years ago and they are dreadful, especially the Stanford. The seats and backs neder line up so always look untidy and the inner cushions on both plus the arm rests are cheap pillow type hollow fibre that goes to nothing so you just get lots of baggy fabric that looks awful. I turn all seats, backs etc every week as advised. For the price of the sofas and quality I expected from next these are appauling. I would like next to contact me to discuss and resolve.

“Expensive armchair”

I spent 1200.00 euro for a large Sherlock armchair. It's a disaster as the hair cushion keeps sliding out . For this price I would have expected the best. Will not be buying furniture from Next again .

“BIG Disappointment”

Ordered a Large Stanford corner sofa from Next Retail Home on 5th November arrived 15th February. So excited on the day when it arrived It was unwrapped and put together couldn’t wait too lounge on it....to my horror the cushions were so hard it was like sitting on a wall nothing like the cushion softness in the shop. Complained the next day and they are sending an engineer his findings on the day were true to what I reported, then received the report back from next stating seeing as there were no faults the complaint was dealt with, no way am I leaving it at that. Phoned Next and spoke to an advisor and explained the problem, at first they wanted to replace cushions but seeing as I have waited so long too arrive and also the sofa was not to my satisfaction as shown in store I know require the sofa to be returned. They are now in the process with collection and refund.

Had the engineer out. It is not a manufacturing fault. They use chaep foam chips - by design - and they cannot be plumped up or softened. I am going to buy traditional foam and fibre inserts

I had the same problem, The engineer came out this week and the sofa cushions are filled with cheap foam chips. They are in a sealed pillow case and cant be plumped up . They are stuffed so full it makes the cushion hard. Not a manufacturing fault they say, I say it is a design fault. Will get proper foam and fibre inserts made as cant afford to replace 2 new sofas!

“Poor Quality Material ”

Purchased the Austell sofa and a matching Sherlock Armchair in the green check material. Within a few weeks the cushion covers on the sofa had started to twist and looked terrible also the cushions started to bend out of shape. The technician visited and stripped the covers off and refitted them, but again they twisted within a few days. I must say that customer services were brilliant and replaced the sofa with no quibble. After a few months more the sofa cushions started to bobble and look grubby, again the technician visited and said that it was the type of material, which had a high polyester content so would bobble with use!!! He suggested I buy a material de piler to remove the bobbles Considering I give the sofa more attention than my grandchildren, vacuuming it, turning the cushions weekly etc I wasn’t prepared to do this,so again I contacted customer service. Again so far they have been brilliant and we seem to have come to a suitable solution, but, Why are NEXT using a material that shows signs of wear within a matter of months. There is nothing anywhere on the advertising to say that the material is prone to this problem and not suitable for general use. Also, has anyone else had the problem of losing the seat cushions everytime you stand up...infuriating spend a lot of time pushing them back into place Still as I’ve said,Customer Serices so far have been brilliant, but come on NEXT have a revisit to your designs and materials. I certainly wouldn’t buy another sofa from you

I have just searched for reviews of Next furniture because of the exact same problems you are experiencing. My sofa is the Stamford 3 seater but one cushion is already twisted (and not the one I sit on all the time!) and pushing cushions (back and seat) back into place is a pain! One arm creaks when people it in a certain way. Had the sofa 10 months and got it on interest free but at this rate it will be ready for the dump before I’ve finished paying for it. I think a call to Next is in order.

I too have a Stamford large sofa . Omg it’s awful . I’m forever putting seat cushions back. Back cushions back and side cushions constantly need shaking to puff them up . It looks a total mess !
And not it’s started pilling on the seats. They’ve told me it’s basically wear and tear and I should remove the pilling . Only had it 9 months !

That’s what they told me
But I persevered and pointed out that the material wasn’t fit for purpose dispite the alleged rigorous testing
It’s only 9 months old no time at all to be showing wear and why should you be expected to de bobble it every week
The issue with the cushions is a design fault and I suppose there’s nothing to do about that but don’t give up
I’ve had really good service from the customer care team so good luck

I too had a stamford sofa, at 6 months old it looked like I had had it 10 years. The engineer came out and said that next may offer some compensation but will not replace. However, they called me a week later and said I could change the sofa for a different one and pay the difference or they would give me 60% of the cost and I could keep it. I have changed it for leather, glad I did looking at the other comments!

Hello All
Well I am now expecting delivery of a complete new suite
I have changed the fabric totally, opting for something with as little polyester as possible. I have had to wait since the end of January for delivery which seems a long time but apparently everything was out of stock.
Hopefully things will now be okay, but if not I think I will try for a refund and go elsewhere.
Must be honest, have had brilliant service from the Customer Services team at NEXT, but will NEVER buy anything else from this retailer. But don’t think that NEXT, as a company care that much about losing customers

“Do not buy the Parker sofa”

After a 3 month battle with Next, they finally collected my sofa yesterday and i am just waiting for my refund. Cost about £1100 inc del for 2 seater sofa and after first night the seats were stretched and puddled badly. Called immediately, sent photos, long wait for engineer who said not fault just to be expected! Of course he is supposed to be independant but they pay for his service ...yeah! Back cushions were so tightly packaged that they were very creased and these never came out... Engineer said they won't ever fill out because of filling but still said not a fault. With seat & back cushion issues, sofa looked years old. Still beautiful sofa but fabric (fauxleather) just too stretchy.

Hi, I have exactly the same experience! My sofa is the Stamford and it’s all snapped inside before it was two years old. Next sent out somebody who said it was ‘misuse’ which I take great offence to! May I ask which sofa you purchased? I have just been on the phone to citizens advice and armed with new information to go back to next with.

I have the stamford and it cracks/creaks when you get up from it, only on one end. The least end used. As we all like the chaise end and arnt always at home together. It started with an annoying squeak and now cracks cant wiggle the front beam, seems firm, springs still tight, No sag. Drives me mad, as well as the base cushions following you off the sofa, enough so that the back ones drop into the void. These two faults are horrendous on a ten month old, £1,500 sofa. I expected more from next. How did you get on in the end with the complaint?

“Sloppy back rests, floppy cushions”

Purchased the Stamford Large sofas a couple of months ago. As expensive as they were, the back cushions get squashed and out of shape very quickly. I do not have young children who jump on them either. When sitting on them, the bottom cushion slides forward. An engineer came out and 'measured' the depth/weight of the cushions and stated they had more than the required amount of filling. If that is the case, do not purchase them. They are not at all sturdy. I am still not happy with them, but have no choice but to keep them.

“bolivia settee and chair awful very poor leather marks .”

I bought both of them believing that i was buying top quality products from a reputable store but I was disappointed to find that the after service was poor.I had a technician over to look at my problem and he was not really interested in sorting the problem but looking at excuses as to how icould be my fault.

“Poor quality snuggle chair”

Feather filled cushions have very poor quality material covering them. Losing several feathers every day, the result being they are now very flat. Seat cushion slides forward and has to be repositioned every day. Not at all impressed and will never buy from Next again. Not surprised their sales are heading downwards as their furniture is certainly not cheap to buy, just cheaply made.

“Easily marked sofa ”

In July '16 we received our olive green Bolivia leather sofas from Next- (Marseille). The very next day we noticed a big scratch mark on one of the sofas. Every few days since we have been discovering new scratches and marks on the sofas. This is very disappointing as the sofas are in a second living room which is barely used and we don't have any pets or children living in the house. The seats which my husband and I use have also sagged quite badly and the leather looks too loose for the cushion. We have always had leather sofas and have never experienced markings like we have on this Bolivia leather. I complained to Next and they sent out a technician who said that we had to be careful what we were wearing while sitting on the sofa and that jeans should be avoided. He also suggested that we plump the cushions every day. The Olive green is a lovely colour but already looks badly worn and old. All the Bolivia leathers seem to have been discontinued - I wonder why?

“Not. Comfortable”

After having a really really comfortable suite for 17yrs I Bought the 3 seater, 2 seater, and chair in Sandford 18 months ago from Next having made several visits to sit on these to make us decide. They cost a lot of money but thought I'd made the right choice. After all this time the sofas are definitely not as comfortable as the one constantly we sat on in the store, very disappointed and keep wishing I'd gone elsewhere as can't see it improving. Makes you wonder if the ones instore are not made at the same factory. So wishing I hadn't spent all that money on these !!

“finnley occasional sofabed”

One of most UNCOMFORTABLE sofabed I have ever bought. HARD like a rock. Fabrick will not warm you up.Do not try to sleep on it. You will end up with back pain. Description says as it is double...Mhm. I do not think so. The only bonus is that it is easy to assemble and presentable. I would not recommend to anyone.

“rippled fabric, wonky legs”

This is a review of a Next sofa that is about 4 years old. Unlike the above customers, I received my sofa on the date specified. I ordered the 'Sofia' sofa in a mink, velvet fabric with brown wooden legs. The delivery men called us when they were about 30 minutes away, all was looking good! My sofa arrived heavily packaged, in eager anticipation, I ripped off the packaging and immediately noticed it seemed somewhat lower than I had expected. Once I had torn off the plastic covering I noticed it was without legs!!! Since this had all happened in about 10 minutes I called the delivery men and explained.... To my dismay, they said that there didn't seem to be any extra legs in their van and that I needed to call customer services. I did so and two days later was sent 4 legs. We fitted these ourselves, which was a big mistake, they don't seem to fit into the hole tightly enough and therefore, 'spray out', looking slightly pxxxed!!! I'm a busy working mum and a quite laid back one at that and couldn't be bothered to chase Next up about this ..... big mistake!!! I have wooded flooring and it has left deep depressions in the wood and where the sofa has slipped the marks ran along about 2-3 inches. Now let me get the fabric! The velvet fabric is soft to touch, it has stayed fresh looking, even with kids, and is easy to clean. When it catches the light is does look sumptuous and cosy. However, this good quality is sadly lost since the quality of both the seating and back cushions are poor. Firstly, the back cushions don't stay in place, they are always on the diagonal unless ive just plumped them up. The seat cushions are wrinkled and even when I give them a very good thrashing they remain like this. My sofa only looks half decent for one day of the week, when I have spent time plumping up the cushions. I think my sofa looks scruffy now so I am in the process of saving for another. This time I'm buying one from Sofa.com. It's more expensive but the reviews are all mainly 5 stars. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had a positive outcome from a Next sofa.

“Next Garda Two Seater Sofa,”

Very dissapointed with the look of the cushions on this Sofa ? Purchased in Sept 2015, Hardly used ,Next sent out the Sofa medic and am now awaiting reply ? Looks terrible ? Only two of us in the house ? No family ? If the cushions looked poor after a couple of years I could understand it but not after 6 months ? Bought another chair at the same time from next and it has never moved ? If the sales person told me in 6 months your Sofa will look terrible I would have put my cash elsewhere ? Cannot recommended this Sofa if you want it to still look smart after 6 months ?

“Service medic helpful but disappointed in sofa ...”

I bought the Gosford 6 months ago in the sumptuous velvet , mid silver,it's a beautiful looking sofa and very elegant however things went wrong from the start. It took well over an hour to get in, and in the end had to go through the garage and back door which was a mission in itself. Sofa got marked coming in and a I was left with a hole in the wall. I noticed that the material was not right after a few weeks, there were ripples in the arms where as the material seems too loose. I noticed white marks appearing on it where I was sitting, also leaning my head on the arm, which you should be able to do with a sofa, white marks popping up everywhere. A few people who came to look at it(, friends) said it should not be like that and to phone Next and complain which I did. Next sent a (technician out ) unfortunately when I was not there as the call was after 9 am and he had come at 8 , loss of communication between next and technician, next did send me a £20 voucher as a good will gesture and made a new apt. When the technician came out he just took photos, which I had already done and sent to next, and said he was going to his van and would be back in a minute. I presumed he had gone to get a testing kit but know he came back and just asked me to sign his phone to say he had been. I asked him what was causing it and he said the report would go back to Next. Next did phone me and said he said it's wear and rare and that's just what happens with that material. Rubbish, I live here on my own most of the time, I'm at work a lot of the time and I cannot belive it's wear and Tare I'm only little and weigh less than 8 , stone, How can a sofa start going like this within a month? Anyway to cut a long story Next offered me to pick another sofa, or I could have my money back.the sad thing is I have decorated and furnished all my lounge around my new sofa. They do not do this colour in any light fabrics like I have, the fabrics are too heavy in the other materials. I do not think it is Next that do not help, I think they need new technicians as I have read so many reviews on unhappy customers tonight. I spoke to Next tonight to see if they would offer me 50 percent discount on it if I kept it as I can't go through the turmoil of trying to get it back out of the house, (more holes in the wall ) having to re do the lounge around another sofa Ect . Next said they could only offer 25 to 30 percent back , which to me is not enough, so I am going to accept my money back. Next have been very helpful through this dilemma and have tried to put it right. Such a shame about the sofa though.

bought a sofa and two snuggles just over a year ago, after six months cushions sagged. Next sent a technitian who confirmed it was a manufacturers fault. all cushions were replaced but three months on and cushions looked like i'd had them for years. Next sent out one of their inspectors who said there was nothing wrong with them. I asked for a servico technitian to come for a second opinion and he confirmed it was a manufacturers fault. Next were very helpful and gave us a complete refund. Although i would never buy a sofa from there again i cannot fault Next customer care team.

I have a service technician calling tomorrow, I have had a previous technician who gave a report and next said more or less hard luck, I was totally dissatisfied and requested a second opinion. My sofa looked dreadful after 3 months, will see what comes out of tomorrow's inspection.

The overall opinions on the whole range of sofas are not very promising, next have finally agreed to change my Stamford sofa I’m looking to now have the gosford would rather of had a refund but they declined but can’t find anyone who’s reviewed it

Has anyone ordered the next Stamford in the standard cushions rather than the casual comfort as there are a lot of negative reviews for the casual comfort but not a lot on the standard more tailored cushions? Thanks!

I have just purchased two stamford sofas. My husband is happy with them but I am getting backache. Has anyone else had this problem? I am still within the 14 day return period and may send them back but not sure if this is generally a problem with next sofas.

Why are the cushions constantly slipping off the base of the sofa, in addition to the cushion covers twisting round out of line with the inner foam. The back cushions slip down the back of the seating cushions. Cushions themselves don't stay in shape. The back one of the seats which makes up the L shape creaks, the material creases and gets rub marks on it. This sofa has only been here a few months. My last sofa lasted 12 years and looked better than this does after just a few months. We do not have any children living at home now, we treat the sofa with utmost respect. I regularly pump the cushions as instructed. We have had home customer services look at it. They said they would sort out the broken back of chair which is creaking. Not heard anything with regards to that. We were told we would get new cushion covers for the rub marks, which he said looked like we had been scratching them! Told the slipping of the covers and the cushions slipping from the base was just one of those things. Not happy. What can I do?

Hi Allanna, sorry you are having bother with your sofas, since my sofas were replaced I haven't had any bother with new ones. I choose the same style(Garda).only in a different fabric, so I think the problems you are having is caused by the fabric.I would advise you to get on to next and ask for a second opinion, and if you are offered an exchange do not take a chenille fabric as that is what the problem was with mine. Good Luck.

We recently bought the Havana corner sofa from next clearance but it came without the feet. We then ordered the feet through Next which we have received but there are two types of feet in the box but more importantly there are no instructions which to use and how to fit them. Could you tell me where I can find the fitting instructions for this sofa please? Many thanks
