I visit this pub on a regular basis and after an amazing Jubilee Celebrations Weekend with Fantastic atmosphere and food, I felt I wanted to let The Star know how much fun myself and my family had. I was shocked to see the previous comment and this is obviously one poor comment since the new people have taken over... “A well-run pub that is going places”

My wife and I go walking in the area regularly, and since it re-opened we always look forward to a midday meal at The Star. This large pub is set in beautiful countryside and offers terrific views. You can enjoy these from the garden or from the spacious conservatory restaurant, or you can retreat to one of the snug areas near the bar on a cold day. Since this inn is located in the most beautiful location, we have been waiting anxiously for it to reopen after a long period of closure. Sitting in that lovely garden looking out over glorius Monmouthshire views - we were missing that. It reopened a few months ago, and is being run by John and Julie. “lovely lunchtime light meal”

Beautiful sunny day,sat in the garden of The Star awaiting lunch....and waited, and waited!!!and we were the first to order!! However the waitress was lovely and said the order had been mislaid, when it arrived it was well presented,wholesome and tasty, chips were delicious. Upon leaving the owner also apologised, saying it was his fault(it must be said his initial greeting was very friendly and helpful). Intend to return. (read more)

went to the reopened star inn recently what a fantastis experience. the refurbished pub/eaterie was spotless with a lovley intimate bar area and a fantastis resteraunt spca including a large conservitry area. the burgers myself and partner ate were magic. for sure the best ive ever had. the manager john was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. the garden with great views is good for the kids too. overall the star i very very good. Went for a meal following the re-opening on 2nd May 2011. The new owners were very welcoming and the restaurant was reasonably full for a Thursday evening. The bar has a good range of cask beers and the menu is excellent with a good range of specials - the slow cooked belly pork was fantastic.

Over the past two years The Star has been blighted by several tenants installed by Enterprise Inns. The new owners are doing a great job to revive the fortunes of this long established rural pub... (read more)

New owners since MAY 2011. We called in on a drive around for lunch and had a wonderful meal. The service was excellent. Nice bright and cheery atmosphere. Definately will go back and recommend to all our family and friends. Take a lot to beat it locally! 5 star! (read more)

we went to the star inn and it was beautiful. the staff there were really nice and friendly and the new manageress and her husband were really nice. they couldnt have done more for you, the pub was spotless and there toilets were lovely and clean. the new manageress had made quite a lot of changes to the menu and it was excellent to see more vegetarian meals and a child menu,i too was asked for a credit card and totally agree with any pub that does this in exchange for a plastic key. not... “Dear oh dear - this pub has just changed hands...”

Dear oh dear - this pub has just changed hands (tenants I think) for about the third time in the past two years and no improvement. Offputting start when we were asked for our credit card in return for a plastic key - this is rural Monmouthshire where everyone knows your name. Very pleasant waitress but with no knowledge of the menu, the beers on offer or where the ingredients were sourced and offered a vegetarian choice of leek risotto - which had no rice in it! Booked a table at The Star Inn on a Saturday night to find that they had only one member of staff and 3 of their 5 a la carte dishes were sold out. This wasn't 10pm at night but 7.30! This is the 2nd time we've been here and there have been problems; the last time the chef was off and the food took forever to come. (read more)

The Star Inn is now under new management very pleasant and the food is to die for good honest grub Food has only started to be served recently but a lot of thought has gone into creating a simple menu with an array of daily specials the new manager is fab. At Tuesday lunchtime, The Star Inn Restaurant at Llansoy in Monmouthshire was totally empty and remained so except for us and one other couple. While we were waiting ages for a menu, we could hear shouted obscenities coming from the kitchen. Not a promising start!
