Small dealers use online services so they can buy and sell against the market trends and with the high dealing costs we need to deal when markets panic. Halifax was down on 7/11 and is down again today 9.22am 10/10/08.
They should be forced to warn new subscribers that they WILL be down at crucial times.

I strongly advise against using this service as some might struggle to get access to buy or sell shares by live online dealing or by telephone during busy times. Even when the markets are not busy their system sometimes rejects my attempts to buy and sell even small amounts of shares.

Even in the dead of night I find their site is unreliable. Frequently refusing to load pages.

It must also take its sweet time executing trades. The price I was supposed to be paying today was a very long way indeed from the price I actually paid. The trades must be executed by carrier pigeon and I dread to think what the prices are like if it was ever busy..

The login is labyrinthine and complicated. Two different logins, three different passwords, plus the pages fail to load a third of ...

On the 7th September 2006 I placed a stop loss Trade Plan for XXXX shares to sell, and I was charged a £2.00 administration fee. On the 8th September 2006, I then amended the Trade Plan which I had placed on the 7th September 2006 to a lower sell price. I was charged another £2.00 administration fee.

When reviewing the details, the plan had not been amended, but the charge still stood. So my shares were sold at the original stop loss price.

The Halifax Share Dealing system has ...

They repeatedly made a complete hash out of my shares, inputting incorrect amounts and values. I went to sell shares and there were problems with their system. I then had to telephone to sell the shares, and I had to talk to someone and took 40 minutes to place an order, and even then I couldn't specify a price, and they couldn't tell me how long for the order to be executed!!! Needless to say the market had moved considerably when executed.

I then tried to complain about all this, and cust ...

Although I already had a current account with Halifax, it took the share dealing account 3 weeks to be established. After which, due to errors on their part, it could not be used for a further week. Upon logging in to the online service for the first time, I was extremely disappointed. Their online interface is awkward to navigate, and it provides none of the information an investor would expect from their broker; such as charts and information on corporations, as per what their competitors do p ...

The halifax share dealing service is severely limited as an information service but does offer some unique ways to build a portfolio cheaply.

The intra-day charting is incorrect and the prices are not displayed realtime. You only get the true price as you trade.

Having to continually log back in is frustrating and the pages load slowly

Conclusion: not for the active trader.
