“Disappointing ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kadj1 on 04/07/2015

Park closed at 5 pm. Monorail broken down so we had to walk a good 20 mins back to hotel. Refill bottles says hydration but only served fizzy drinks and no refill in CBeebies lane. Staff were friendly

“Poorly maintained rides and rip off charges.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MckinleyGallegos on 18/09/2014

Visited Alton Towers in August and had 2 issues that spoilt the day. 1. Rides broke down multiple times forcing us to leave queues after hours of queuing ruining our day. 2. Paid £16 each for 2 cars (£32) for express parking and was still left queuing for over 30 minutes to get in and out of car parks due to Alton towers inability to provide staff at car park entrance. Not to worry I though after this terrible service I will complain and get a refund as I did not revive what I paid for. I made a complaint and after 3 weeks I received a ridiculous response informing me that "rides by there mechanical nature break down" and that express parking still offered good value for money. I'm just glad that they don't run an airline as planes would be dropping out of the sky. The rides pare obviously not maintained or repaired properly if they breaking down multiple times per day and as for the parking express by it's description does not mean waiting and stopping. Avoid Alton towers and go to drayton manor which provides honest and safe day out for a fraction of the cost.

“Customer services at Alton Towers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/10/2012

I recently contacted alton towers for some further information about tickets by phone. After waiting 15 minutes at 10p per minute, my call was answered, then transferred 4 times before being answered by a rude and unhelpful woman who put the phone down on me. Poor customer service wont be going there again!!!

“An Insult To Mexican Food”

written by on 08/06/2012

I'm no Gordon Ramsay but I know what a fahita is meant to look and taste like- and this was simply pathetic. The chicken was bone dry; the onions were under cooked; the wrap was limp, and with no form. The potato wedges as a side dish were heavily over seasoned, and salty. There were meant to be nachos with my meal but after what I had seen and tasted I wanted no more. The meal looked nothing like the one in the display picture. I love Alton Towers- but if they want to cook more than burgers and pizza they need to put more effort into them.

You've given the Alton Towers Theme Park a one star rating based on it's food?!! Correct me if I'm wrong but Food is the last thing most people worry about at a theme park!

“great, but money levels too high!”

written by amberfrankie on 11/11/2011

a trip worth paying for, but the cost is extremly high, for food, and just to get into the park is high enough, so i suggest bring a picnic, but the food is nice if you dont. thirills- i rode all! Nemesis- nemesis was my favourite, its an upside down one, and usally, does not have too much of a queue. do this BEFORE lunch! this is a white- knuckle ride, so if your not a thrill seeker, i suggest maybe not to try, but, its way isnt as fast as it seems. if you have rode infusion at blackpool pleasure beach, it is lots faster than nemesis! give it a go- i am 10 and i did! Rita- rita is extremly FAST! it goes 275 mph in 2 seconds! keep your head Back, its hard not too, but you get a sore back and a headache if you dont! i love this ride! if you have rode rita- you can perservere in anything! Air- air, what a GREAT ride! i loved this ride, you start of on your front, and it takes you onto your back! smooth ride though- and relaxing! it has the flying expierence! thirteen- i loved thriteen! the advert may look scary, I AM 10 YEARS OLD AND A GIRL! and i did it! its really not! but the QUEUE IS UNBELIEVEABLE! usally around 1 hour long, and there speakers around you and dead bones, and when you get in the building, theres a electric thing that electrutes to scare you, so watch out. the ride does a drop at the end, 30ft and pitxch black. u must get a fastrack for this RIDE! oblivion- this ride does a drop into a hole! sit at the back, get more feeling! and it holds around 23 ppl, so the queue is very short!

“WOULD NOT RETURN TO ALTON TOWERS EVER!!!”

written by on 24/07/2011

Myself, my husband, my sister-in-law and my two children aged 10 and 7 vistied Alton Towers on Thursday 14th July. This was supposed to be the highlight of our holiday but unfortunately I felt it was far from that. We paid £107.00 for our tickets which included parking. We arrived at approx 10.30am and access to the park was fine as we used the monotrain with no problems. For the first ride which I think was Sonic the queue was ONE HOUR which I thought was appalling but to my horror worse was to come. I personally did not go on the ride but the reaction from everybody else was that it was

You do realise that the reason you didn't like it is because probably becasue you hardly went on even Sonic Spinball. Hadn't you been on Nemisis, Air, Oblivion or Rita? I think you just had a bad day as Alton Towers is rated as one of the best in the world nowadays. Go on a 'proper' thrill ride, prepare to spend a lot of money and buy fastrack tickets (To skip the queue) and you should have on eof the best days out in Britain

“AWFUL”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/07/2011

My first visit in 2 years. I payed more than £100 for 4 of us to go. This being bad enough the queues were TERRIBLE and then on top of that the queues are so slow at moving that you are basically made to buy fast track. This place so called the best day ever, was not. After not having the best of starts we headed over to Thirteen as it was hyped up to be the "ULTIMATE coaster", well I will tell it is probably the one of the worst coasters I have ever been on and it is not worth the queue TBH I was rather bored the best bit was getting off. Food was extortionate unlike places such as Pleasure Beach. My kids did not enjoy their day out and I will not be returning again for a good while. I wish we went to Pleasure Beach instead as a Family ticket is only £86, there is a lot more rides that my kids can go out, the staff are friendlier and the queues are a lot better.

“What a Joke!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Emseee on 21/06/2011

Haven't been there for 18 years. Returned last Sunday. There has been very little investment in that time; signing is terrible and the paper map is hopeless. And for God's sake why not open 8am - 8pm instead of just cramming 1000s of hapless people into the same place at the same time (10 - 5.50). They should be embarrassed and we must be suckers in this country!

Bad experience at alton towers hotels over the new year. Only four rides open and most facilities were shut
Staff did not know when shows started and so were giving out differant times. The resturant was over priced for poor quality food. To top it all gypsies were fighting in the bar, women and children involved. Would never go back.

We paid over £30 per person to spend the day at the park and enjoy the firework display. Weren't overly impressed at the £5 parking charge- especially when we were parked in a muddy field! Thankfully they had the common sense to lift the barriers on exit (took over an hour to depart as it was. With the barriers we'd probably still be there now!).

Extremely busy day so, for our £30, we experienced 4 rides (Rita, Air, Spinball Wizzer [or whatever it is now called!] and Enterprise) and MANY hours of queueing. "13" broke down whilst we were in the queue for it. After waiting over 45mins with little update, suspecting the ride/park would close prior to us reaching it (it had gone 9pm), we headed for the exit vowing never to return..

Dreadful place - possibly the ante-room to hell on earth. Having said that, if you are taking your GCSE in 'Great queues of our time' then this is priceless 'cramming'. Have our lives become so devoid of joy that 90 minutes doing a slow and silent conga through a maze is a credible way to spend a day. And for what, these rides are massively overhyped - please just do a bungee jump; there's virtually no queuing and you'll find out what a real thrill is. Don't give these guys your money, they are laughing at you. You are being very shrewdly marketed to and these guys are clever but, ultimately, they are just laughing at you.

What are you on about? I am absolutely disgusted that someone would say that about someone like John Wardley who designs some of these rides. They are made for YOUR pleasure and they get more money to buy more rides for YOUR PLEASURE! You've got to prepare to pay lots of money. However, I can see that it is very costly but if you don't like the entire of Alton Towers you can't like much a tall.

What ever you do DON'T buy the Fastrack tickets they are a total RIP OFF!!!
We purchased 3 Fastrack tickets for our children last months at a cost of £75 (this was on top of the park entrance fee). Alton Towers advert says "Experience the Fastrack entrance as many times as you like during the day!. What they don't tell you is that these Fastrack queues "merge" with the normal queue after a VERY SHORT length of time and you still spend half your day queuing!!! Over 40 minutes for Air!! Our kids got on 4 rides using the Fastrack queues all day - that works out at £6.25 per child per ride - a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. When we asked Alton Towers for a refund, via email, they TOTALLY IGNORED THE REQUEST - FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE ALTON TOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought it was really disgusting that you had to pay five pounds for the car park like the £38 you paid to get in wasn't enough. the theme park was more suitable for the very young or teenagers/adults there wasn't alot for the inbetweens. I also think its disgusting that they class a 12yr old as an adult as they are not. everything is just so spaced out my teenager(adult) and my husband paid £38 each to get in and managed to get on 5 rides all day what a rip off. I also think there should be a different way to pay addmission maybe wrist paid i dont really do scary rides so felt it was a rip of paying £38 just to take the family knowing i wouldnt b going on rides. alton towers was a rip off think i will be sticking to drayton manor nxt yr

Having to pay £5 to park is annoying, then walked for what seemed like ages to get to mammoth queues just to buy tickets. One hour passed and we had managed to park and get into the park. I am not much of a theme park expert, but this seemed odd.

The park is laid out badly, the rides are all at huge distances apart and nothing of interest inbetween. Overpriced coffees, rude and unhelpful staff in the KFC gave me an overall feeling of what a waste of money. Everything is geared up at squeezing every last drop of cash out of you.

Don't waste your time here, Thorpe Park is much better organised and laid out, plus you don't have to walk ages to find rides, which is why you've come to the place anyway.

I went when I was at university and remember I had a good time, however I was drunk so maybe that had something to do with it.
Went recently (v.sober this time).
Queued for ages to get on oblivion (too short and not that great)
Thirteen is rubbish!

Went on hex-terrible
And couldnt be bothered lining up for others
I think the problem is, is that I went to universal studios/islands of adventure (spiderman or the hulk anyone/duel dragon one/the krakan and flying mantra at seaworld) after doing all these and then going to Alton Towers there is no comparison. Alton towers is rubbish! Won't be going back again!

Yes, I can see your critism and everything in the first paragraph is arguably acurate. Though some of the rides mentioned in the second paragraph woudn't be there if it wasn't for John Wardley making awesome rides like Nemesis and Air

Just terrible. Avoid at all costs. If you've ever experienced any Disney/Universal theme parks, you will think this place is beyond a joke. Full of chavs, terrible rides- the so called flagship rides are so short and dull. There is no atmosphere at all, very threatening, lots of mess everywhere. Considering the cost and dire roads to get there on top of the whole experience, definitely do not waste your time or money going here. This park should be scrapped and started again. I honestly do not have any positive things to say about it. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Your opinion. I think that you have avoided all positive things that's why. Most people like me love Alton and if you have a merlin annual pass you can come all year round free. It is an amazing theme park for us who visit it. Visit Drayton manor. That must be like he'll is you think this of Alton. To say it to be scrapped is just a very idealogical and arrogant view though. You can't judge out of you're view. I bet you didn't realise that nemesis is officially rated one of the best steel coasters in the world.

“ALTON TOWERS ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by viktoriact on 06/07/2010

ALTON TOWERS

Although Alton Towers states on their website that the park opening times are 10am, there were a lot of people already in the park when we got these at 9.30 on Saturday and 9.15am on Sunday. We subsequently learned that the people who are staying in the Alton Towers hotel get to go round the park from 9am until 10am.

Also there were people that had obviously paid something and had some passes to get through the attendants at the front.

So we entered already busy park and with the droves that were there, it became extremely busy. Also, parking is £5 OR you can pay a further £15 to get a head start and park closer to the entrance but this is obviously pointless because there are already people in the park.

The Fast track tickets make the part completely unfair and I would say to people that it is pointless going to the park if you are not willing to pay at least the extra £9 for one pass to olivion, air and nemisis.

13 broke down after we had queued for an hour and was off until late afternoon of the next day. Estimated waiting boards are completely inaccurate and the clever design of the queues makes them appear quite small at first sight.

I would not reccommend this as, simply put, it is not a good day out and certainly not worth the money. The rides do not pay off and there was an evident air of disappointment from fellow visitors after every ride. Frustration and unfairness.

I will NEVER go to this park again. Nor do I reccommend it to anyone. Do not let them have your money and continue this unfair, money-making scam. I would have given in no stars but the website wouldn't let me.

RUBBISH, RUBBISH, RUBBISH! Not impressed with Alton Towers at all. Spent all day queuing for the measly 3 rides we managed to get on - times shown on waiting boards do not reflect the truth! Advertised queue time for Oblivion was 30 mins and we waited over an hour - loads of people smoking in the queue as well which was revolting. Wanted to do the Fast Track but didn't on principle as the £38 entrance fee is already really high. Also, I can't believe you have to pay £5 to park your car - scandalous! We paid £5.99 for a KFC meal which came only in large! Talk about encouraging obesity! In all, I rate it 0/5. I won't be visiting again, nor will I recommend to anyone other than my worst enemy.

This was utterly awful! £38pp to go on three rides, two of which broke down while I was on them! Food which made my partner ill. This was my third visit to alton towers and not once have I been satisfied! Never again will I visit alton towers or reccomend anyone else to either. Two times I have contacted alton towers and still no reply. Queue a mile long just to buy a extreamly over priced fast track ticket!
