I'm writing about my two local Costas in Watford. We used to frequent them very often and still purchase coffee tabs from there for our machines at home but lately there has been a stark difference in the taste of their latte's - we kept having to send them back and in the end the manager said that the recipe has been changed and so that's that i suppose - we can't enjoy our favourite cup again. Why fix something that isn't broken is my question. The other issue i have is that the stores are always ALWAYS overrun with people - testament to their popularity i suppose and maybe its just an issue in Watford but even after opening a SECOND store you can still never move in the place. The stores always seem badly laid out and because the influx of people is never ending the tables are never properly cleaned and the whole buzz of people does nothing but confuse an already overworked staff. The stores need redesigning and a bigger minimum space clause. The two small ones in Watford might as well be closed and a larger store reopened to support such a high demand. It certainly makes more sense to me.

Almost dropped my purse this morning when I was told how much I had to pay for a black coffee. Way too expensive. When did prices get this high?

I go to Costa at least twice a week and spend a good hour in there every time I go. "You must love the place" I hear you call. Errr....No, but what Costa lacks in some areas it make up for with it's steer distribution. Every random pub, petrol station, pet shop and swap shop (in fact everyone everywhere) seems to be selling Costa these days, and luckily for my small town we have been touch by that invasion too. I say luckily, because otherwise we'd have to sit with our kids in a pub that smells of stale beer and Costa is certainly a step up from that, but there are certainly things they could improve. The obvious one is price. The markups on Coffee are absolutely crazy. Every time I'm waiting in the queue I listen to hear the faint squeals from people when they are told the bill. Then there's the food they serve. Muffins, eh. They look good don't they. All pretty, like they were made out the back. Great until you one day see them filling the states they are presented on from something that looks like it came from Costco (although the entire Costco tray of cakes would cost less than the single Costa Muffin - there's a reason it's called Costa!). Then there's the little bit about listening. My little one has a WARM milk with Vanilla every we go. So what do we get (at least 1 in 3 times). HOT MILK...burn a child's (who is quite evidently with me) mouth hot. What is the point in fat/thin/mocha/choca/soya/shot coffee with a twist if your staff are going to struggle with the difference between WARM and HOT? Like I say, I still go back so it's not that bad...but I wouldn't want to be Costa if a competitor opened up. Acceptable(ish) is a fair rating...more work needed!

I'm a complete coffee addict and can't survive a morning without a strong dark americano of filter coffee to get me kicked off. Costa is on my way from Richmond station to the office so I occasionally pop in. The coffee itself is usually pretty good but the service is sooo slow and no matter what time of day I go there the queue is almost out of the door. I rarely drink in but when I do the decor is rubbish. Cheesy, out of date, like a cross between a Wetherspoons pub and a old persons home rather than the 'genuine' Italian experience they claim to offer in their marketing. No free Wifi either. Starbucks or Nero are way better!

Can Costa Coffee explain how their gluten free chocolate brownie contains wheat?
As a coeliac I find this confusing and dangerous for my health.
Please explain !
I asked the staff in the outlet but they were unable to explain.

Hi Gary,

I am not Coeliac but am gluten and wheat intollerant. I purchased this brownie yesterday and halfed it with my husband. Half way through eating it I discovered it had wheat starch. To answer your question, they "wash" the gluten out from the wheat and put the starch which is left into the brownie. It is therefore safe for Coeliacs to eat but not people with a wheat allergy/intollerance. I have eaten Lifestyle gluten free bread before and was ill within an hour of eating it, and when I read the ingredients it had wheat starch, but still gluten free. I hope this helps. I am going to write to Whitbread and complain about this. I'll stick to Starbucks, at least their products are clearly labelled.

Why dont you stay home costa is very bad and people made it so famous,
I can't believe it as Italian I feel offended.
This is dirty water.
Leave the Italian coffee to the Italians.
