Good Points: Nice clarity, comes with sunshades. It's super affordable. Gathers light like more expensive scopes. Holds a zero, and is easy to sight in. Don't let the price fool you, it's a real decent scope. I've spoken with lots of folks at gun shows -- mainly dealers -- and almost everything I hear is that BSA scopes perform well, and have very little trouble mechanically.
Bad Points: Can't drive fence posts with it. Seriously, It's quite cheap economically, and when you don't pay much, you don't expect much. With this in mind, this or most other BSA rifle-scopes will seldom if ever disappoint. I'd rather have had a 50mm objective for a bit more light-gathering, perhaps.
General comments: I built a couple of real nice Ruger 10/22 a few years back -- .920" 'bull' barrels, Fajen stocks -- one laminated thumb hole stock, and one monte carlo-style. On one a Volquartsen trigger assembly , and the other a Ruger/OEM reworked by Scott Volquartsen with their parts.) After-market receivers (FORCE) and bolts, with integral cantilever scope-mounts, etc. The two rifles are real tack-drivers -- literally! The thumbhole job; however, is super accurate, super comfortable, and a total joy to shoot. When I went to put glass on it, I didn't want to put much more money into it, having blown the budget on other parts. But I still needed a scope that could shoot as well as the rifle. This particular BSA scope fit the bill and then some.
I chose this BSA, because of the price mainly, because I didn't feel that the rifle presented much of a challenge recoil-wise, and because of the accessories that came with it were nice plentiful and useful. I actually knew what other cheap scopes were like (Bushnell, Tasco, Redfield, etc) and I gambled on BSA having never seen one in person. My gamble definitely paid off big as far as I'm concerned. I have been nothing but very happy with it ever since, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in the future.
With the location of BSA's price-point way on the low side, most people who know rifle scopes/sports optics immediately don't expect much from BSA's line of scopes. When compared with other economical (read CHEAP) scopes, BSA pretty much dominates the competition. BSA is every bit as good as Bushnell and even better in my opinion. Redfield's lower-priced scopes can't compare to BSA, especially in quality, let alone accessories.
I know that there are snobby rifle 'purists' out there that are brand-loyal, seldom varying from their favorites, who look down upon anything else. Many would see BSA as a cheap scope line, and they would be half right. In this case the price shouldn't be a deterrent. But rather an enticement to expand their knowledge of gun glass.
