I bought one for my son for Christmas and although he loves it to bits I've got to say I'm not as impressed at the paintwork so far. The orange on the front wheel has started to come off with the brake pads rubbing against it and he's only been riding it 2 months or so (with the snow being so bad here he wasn't on it much after xmas), and now it's down to the bare metal. Also, where the crank meets the body of the bike the paintwork came off near where it meets the body as it seems to have... (read more)

GT Compe is a great bike, kept it exactly the same as the day i got it, had a problem with the bit on the rear brake that sticks out hitting the pedal as it went round but just bent it round. rides smooth, verry good sprocket, doesnt need a tiny 1... i jump mine alot, it weighs enough for you to feel stable but is light enough to clear jumps. i used to ride mongooses but tried the gt and loved it, my friend paid over £500 for his bike , a haro or sumin but he likes my gt better, LOL (read more)

Overall the GT Compe is a very good bike well worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone with a thrill for biking. The only thing that was bad with mine was that the brake cable kept hitting the spokes and in the end it feel off but the brake still works very well. (read more)

Dude calm down... It's an amazing bike.. Gt has always been amazing. The problem is that they spray their pant on and put it in an oven... They don't powder-coat cause of cost.. I've had mine since 2005 and I repainted it cause the fade was so bad after 6 years.. It was like less of neon yellow and took 6 years to fade all the way. It's a great bike and I like it but snow gets to every bikes paint.. But me.. I live in the desert where we get 6 feet of snow in 20 years... The weather kills paint and im not sure about the pedal stem... If you need to just shorten the cable that rubs and tell him to keep his feet to the outside of the pedals more cause he will wear the paint off the cranks.. It's a good bike. Just a little TLC.. put it in his room or in the garage to keep out of the weather.
