“What happened?”

Written on: 03/11/2012

Having visited this park last year we decided to return this October half term. It was like entering a different world! Last year we had a shabby but clean caravan. This year there was mould and a very strange stale smell that no amount of Febreeze could disuise. Last year there was a range of themed nights, quizzes and childrens entertainment organised by a couple of lovely women (mother and daughter, I think), who dressed up and made everything fun for the kids. This year there was bingo... (read more)

Just got home from a 4 day break here and after reading the slating it got on trip advisor I really didn't want to go but had already booked it... Well what a lovely surprise awaited me. Arrived at reception 4 hours early for our van!! My mistake for misreading timings!! Staff were so helpful.. Our caravan wasn't ready but was done within the hour. Staff came to find us to let us know... Was so happy to see how lovely and clean it was. We had a caravan that was 10 years old and was in... (read more)

After reading a few reviews I was pleasantly surprised, If you pay for two star accommodation don't expect four star. The accommodation was fine, may be a little tired and dated but thats what we paid for, fully functional and clean. The site itself was tidy and quite, a great base to explore the island. (read more)

“Relaxing family holiday”

We booked the Fairway Holiday Park for a family holiday for 15 so we requested 3 caravans close together. On arrival we booked in and were shown to our vans which were together as requested they were in excellent condition and very clean. The only fault we had were the signal on the televisions this was very poor and we kept loosing picture and sound. As this was a tabloid deal I wasn't holding out for the best of accomodation. We stayed in a Whippingham (2003) Luckily it didn't smell of smoke, but the cleanliness did leave a lot to be desired and I spent the first two hours cleaning. The caravan hadn't been cleaned as their were cobwebs on the walls on the floor, the toilet seat had poo still on it and I didn't dare look at the matresses till the end of the stay! “Fairway Holiday Park, Sandown, Isle of Wight”

Written on: 11/10/2011

After being recommended by a friend, and reading the reviews, we stayed at the Fairway under the cover of a £38 Sun cheap weekend just to see what it was really like. Yes the caravan had been well abused by previous occupants but was clean and presentable. It had all the essential pots, pans, plates and cutlery. The site was quiet, well maintained, clean and tidy. You would need a car if you are less able or dislike walking, but there is a bus stop outside the site with an excellent bus... (read more)

Visited October 2011 after being allocated from Sun £9.50 holidays. Very worried by some terrible and possibly malicious reviews but all fears allayed on arrival. Small, pleasant and tidy site. Plus points - Kids playground and well heated clean outdoor pool. Spar shop right outside the entrance. Short drive to all ammenities, club room on site. Downsides - not very picturesque being located in the middle of a housing estate, bar meals - little choice and chips with everything, amusement... (read more)

“Children's games, bingo and cabaret.....Great!!”

Written on: 08/08/2011

Having visited the clubhouse on several occasions, I have to say I found the staff pleasant and the entertianment good. When there were enough children in the room, group games were played, and if only a few (which was the case a few times) there was face painting and balloon sculpting. Bingo followed and then karaoke or a cabaret act provided by a visiting act or Jess (the in-house entertainer), who has a great voice and performs a wide range of older and up-to-date material. We... Yes i agree and when you complain the staff tell you the owners are on holiday ..until the park is closed . your review should help many people from making the same mistakes you and i have made. I totally agree with your review. we had to use steroid cream with anti fungals in after staying there . it made us all extremley ill. was disgusting . I going back to face them down in april and to find out why they treat guests the way they do , was you holiday this year or last year by the way because it sounds like things are just as bad !!

Is there any way I can contact both of you that have reviewed this campsite? My family and I were there last August and had an appauling holiday thanks to the conditions we were faced with on arrival. I am in the throws of taking legal action against the park and it would be good for you to tag along. (I am not looking to get you involved for my own good, just thought it would be nice for everyone to get there money back). The experiences you have described are almost exactly what we had but even faced with photo evidence the park owner told me I was making it all up. (He only told me in writing because I was told he wasn't there for the two weeks we were there)

I found this review not helpful because it doesn't make sense, there are lots of spelling mistakes and the writer sounds like a right misery. Also if you are not happy about the quality of your accommodation then complain to the management and ask to be moved or for the caravan to be cleaned. At no point does this review say that was done.

In reply to the comment that has been made to my post you are either the owner or work there or have been put up to reply !! we did complain and nothing was done. And for your info the councils enviromental dept went out and made several urgent findings on that . As for being grumpy I am known for my humour but if you took a disabled child on holiday to a dirty filthy caravan then you would not exactly be jumping for joy . as for spelling mistakes who gives a ****!if you cant read a few typos then your not a just a clever booker your also a clever F..... by the way I will be Revisiting the site in april . If you want to be on TV then be there on april 22nd !! that caravan could not be cleaned it was past that stage years ago. Take a look at the website set up with all pictures ..Proof enough !! so keep ya clever booking mouth Out . You either like filth or you work there !!The 73 people I have manage to pull together can't all be wrong !! Pictures dont lie .........fairway holiday park as about to be seen on a TV near you for all the wrong reasons !!

I found this review very helpful because I totally understand where this person is coming from. I spent an awful time at Fairway's last August and when we complained were told that there was no alternative accomodation available and also that the management were away on holiday. (Their return date was put back 3 times until we eventually left early and drove home without speaking to them). When I wrote to the management and provided photographic evidence of the extremely poor conditions that were had to face they accussed me of fabricating evidence! More people need to take these people to court to get them put out of business before they rob any more unsuspecting holiday makers from their hard earned cash.

Stayed at the Fairway Holiday Park, Sandown, Isle of Wight in August 2008. On arrival found the staff friendly and helpful and the caravan we were staying in was clean, modern and well equipped. The evening entertainment was good, although a bit 70's and 80's, with bingo, karaoke, party dancing, and a different game on each night of the week and the bar was stocked with a good range of beers and drinks.
