Staying in Paris for a weekend, we decided to go to La Coupole after reading a recommendation in a DK Paris guide, and soon found that it was a very good restaurant. Famous for being the place where Picasso used to eat, alongside Hemmingway and other famous names, La Coupole is a lively restaurant suitable for any tourist (perhaps with the exception of children). It consists of one large room with lots of little tables throughout, and despite the fact they are catering for hundreds of people, they had very pleasant staff who were more than happy to speak English, and the food was devilishly delightful. The only problem with the cuisine, which we found to be a generic one throughout the city, was the lack of vegetarian meals, however La Coupole had a lovely vegetarian meal which composed of a filo pastry nest filled with roasted vegetables drizzled in balsamic vinegar.
This is a delightful restaurant to eat at with a welcoming atmosphere and delicious cuisine, apart from the service taking a while longer than the average restaurant (given La Coupole's size) we had a wonderful night there and would certainly recommend it to anyone else staying in the Montparnasse area, as long as you don't mind paying a little extra that is.
