Don't let the Jets To Brazil/Sunny Day Real Estate emo-like opening number put you off the rest of the JBO's debut. Whilst we have an eclectic rock album drawing on everyone from Rush, Led Zep and the Doors to Guns and Roses, the JBO put their own slant on things through strong bluesy songs performed with great energy and not least because of Jeremy Barber's folksy fiddle, Ian Duncan's sax, Jeffrey Leonetti's Robert Plant voice and ex-Jonas Hellborg sideman Kofi Baker on drums - having no doubt learnt a trick or two from dad Ginger, but not displaying as much african influence here. Lacking some recent intelligent and varied rock in your collection? Then there's no better place to start than with Prelude To Sun.
