More quality quartet pieces from Stu Goldberg. The beauty of this album is the simplicity of Goldberg's approach. Take well written pieces, simple catchy heads, solid ensemble playing by himself, brother Kenny, Jeff Faulkner and Dave Renick, on the minimum of orthodox instruments, piano, saxes and flutes, bass and drums, respectively, and play some straight ahead postbop jazz. What could be simpler? Depending on the piece, Stu Goldberg's style comfortably flits between that of Evans, Guaraldi, Grusin and Jarrett. The moods range from striding midtempo to shuffling comatose. Rills delicately bubble with the Goldberg brothers' unison cascades, flowing into broader brooks, picking up a pace from fairy footsteps into a jaunty skip and settling again, all the while enchanting us with ice water translucent melodic narrative. The title cut is a tearoom fandango, and lounge jazz is what most of the album could be comfortably pidgeon-holed as - just to the rear of the Georgian armoire. Wispy melodious sketches to nuzzle the earlobes after "a hard day at the office dear?".
