General comments: With all the soul of Macy Gray, the raunch of Joe Cocker and the Blues of B.B. King, Benito Madonia's voice cuts through the sumptuous "under-veil" of Antonio Forcione's velvety accompaniment in this collection of impassioned ballads like the proverbial hot butterknife. The songs go slightly downhill towards taverna crooning in the latter part of the CD, sometime after the welcome inclusion of Rossana Casale's vocals on La Canzone di Marinella. However, throughout, Forcione's abilites are well displayed. Choice and subtle comping, sympathetic soloing and stylish runs embellish the songs amply and make for an album of enjoyable music - even the slightly heartless version of Torna a Surriento.
