“The Heights of Abraham is located in Matlock Bath,...”

The Heights of Abraham is located in Matlock Bath, near Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3PD. Opening times 11 February - 26 February, daily 10a.m - 4.30 pm. 4 March - 19 March, weekdays only: 10 am - 4.30 pm and 20 March - 29 October, daily: 10 a.m - 5 p.m (later in High season).Opening hours may change depending on daily circumstances. Take a spectacular cable car ride high above the Derwent Valley. Take a guided tour through two caverns and find out about lead miners, extremely interesting for all ages. Above ground you can wander around taking in the beautiful views, have a picnic or eat at the cafe with stunning views over Derbyshire (reasonably priced and have kids meals too). Cost of entrance was £34 for a family ticket of 2 adults + 3 children, although slighty cheaper for people with 2 children. There is a play area for the kids, an exhibition centre, gift shop, the Great Masson Cavern, the Great Rutland Cavern, a view from Victoria Prospect Tower (we found that a bit unsafe if you had to pass people on the stairs, not suitable for kids). There is an additional play area for the younger children with slides, swings, etc. Our 10, 11 & 13 year old enjoyed this very much and we all thought it was good value for money. Signs from the car park to the Heights were a bit confusing, if you park in the railway station car park you have to cross the railway line and walk along the pathway by the tracks to get to the entrance. My tip is to arrive there for 9.40 a.m in order to save queing. The cable cars are quite fast and you won't have to wait too long. There are frequent train services from Derby to Matlock Bath as well as bus services. Once you've had enough of the Heights do take a walk around the town, especially via the river. By the river is a nice place to sit and have a bite to eat and feed the ducks. I felt that Matlock Bath was a miniture Blackpool with all it's gift shops and Ice cream parlours. If travelling by car it is situated on the A6, 18 miles north of Derby. Signposted from M1 junction 28 & A6 approach roads. The closest car park as I've said is the railway station. During busy periods alternative car parking can be found in both the Temple Car Park as you enter the village, but be prepared for a walk to the attraction. Also there is another Car Park called Artists Corner Car Park as you approach the village from the North. For further information see their website: www.heightsofabraham.co.uk. We would give this attraction and visit to Matlock Bath itself a total of 8/10.
