    Good Points: What a gorgeous instrument! I recently tried out a used Powell Custom Handmade Aurumite flute, and it is very near perfect. The mechanism is so smooth and has the perfect amount of resistance under the fingers.


    Bad Points: I'm used to a flute with a bit more resistance, and I often find myself having to hold back on this flute for fear of cracking. Plus, in ensemble work, it sounds softer in my ear than it actually is to those in the audience. Maybe the sound just blends much better than my last flute, and so doesn't stick out as much.


    General comments: A amazing flute with a beautiful sound, and the quality one comes to expect from Powell. I love tone of the silver and gold-- it's has the roundness of gold with the shimmer and projection of silver. If you have the money, it's definitely worth giving a try. There is a beautiful connection between every note from low B to high C. The upper register sings, and the high C speaks with ease--without use of the gizmo key. The lower register is nice and full and it articulates clearly and crisply. Plus, it is easy to maintain the same color throughout all three registers. Changing tonal colors is a breeze, as is executing all dynamics, from ppp to fff. What a gorgeous instrument! I'm so happy I found it. Aurumite is a genius invention, and I'm very happy with my purchase.

    The Powell Aurumite 9k flute sounds as good as it looks! The aurumite metal is great, and it looks awesome! It is great value! Buy this one!! The registers are even, and mine hasn't needed to be repaired for 2 years!
