I did not know it was possible to feel such rage and hatred for an inanimate object, until I had this machine. I've had it for almost 4 years now and have had to get it repaired 6 times. Even the people who come out to fix it tell horror stories about it. They say the dryer's motor is no stronger than a hairdryer's and that Hotpoint does *not* make them. Another company pays to use the name. At least the wash cycles are not too terrible. We could live with a crummy dryer, if... (read more)

I bought this washing machine 4 weeks ago. Big mistake. Very disappointed -washing machine is fine, but dryer is utterly and completely useless. The acrid smell of rubber when it is on permeates the whole house, gets in the back of our throats and is actually unbearable. I called hotpoint engineer who assured me it will get better and nothing is wrong with the machine - but it is no better and we just cannot use it as the smell makes us feel sick. The washing comes out stinking of rubber. I... (read more)

Hotpoint BWD129 washer/drier This is the worst washing machine I have ever had! I too like others no longer use the drier facility as it made the clothes so creased. I even bought an expensive steam generator iron to try and solve the problem and that could not get the creases out. However, the direr is the least of my worries. It constantly drags socks and other underwear through the drum blocking the filter and then stops mid cycle. This has happened so often I have lost count. Every... (read more)

Sorry, I have to stick up for this. It's 6 years old and the dryer has just failed. I'm debating whether to have it fixed. However, otherwise this has been a good buy. 6 years seems OK. Washes very well. None of the random cycles or clothes trapping and ruined reported by others. The dryer was never very efficient, but I understand that is usual for a combined washer/dryer. Getting a little noisy on the spin cycle nowadays, but it's elderly.
My only annoyance is that the synthetic cycles...

I bought my Hotpoint BWD129 machine in October, not realising that Hotpoint Indesit were the same company. By november it developed a mind of its own where it would only do 90degree 3 hour washes, ruining lots of my delicate clothes which were on a delicate 30 degree wash in the process. The company customer services was diabolical but finally sent round an engineer, who changed the machine for me. He was so incompetent that he didn't screww down all the legs on the new machine so it... (read more)

This is the most awful piece of rubbish I have ever tried to use. And when I say try I have washed the same clothes at least 4 times and they are back in the washer again. The are not spinning and its less than a week old. I haven't even tried the dryer but after reading the other review I don't think I ever will. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. I bought this washer/dryer only 2 weeks ago.It washers fine but when it comes to drying clothes it is absolute rubbish. Half way through the dry cycle it refills with water and go through a wash cycle again including a full 1200 spin whether you want it or not. By the time the clothes are dry they are so creased it is impossible to iron them and damaging for your clothes. What is the point of that? Tumble dryer is awful. It has ruined loads of our clothes and it also makes the clothes have a burning smell. If you want to stop it from drying then you have to switch the whole thing off.
I have had enough. It has stopped throwing heat out of it now and there is no way I would consider getting it repaired. The door catch has also broken in the past and I had problems where it wouldn't pump the water out. Would never buy another hotpoint appliance!! Do not buy!

I bought the Hotpoint BWD129 four years ago and my first disappointment was that there's no way to set the drying cycle to less time than 40 minutes! Even worse, there's no way to stop it once it has been set. After 3 years of pretty good service, the machine developed a mind of its own and intermittently started the drying cycle at about 100 degrees Celsius without it even having been set. Of course this melts and burns anything which is not cotton, and shrinks everything else. Due to... (read more)

I've just finished putting this pile of garbage back together for the umteenth time. Its probably 2 years old and is the worst washing machine we have ever had. The clothes get ripped and sucked under the drum. This causes the drum to jam and the belt at the back to come off. After writing this review I'm going to surf the net for a Bosh.
We've never used the dryer which is just as well having read the other reviews. We will never ever, ever, ever buy Hotpoint again!

I would not recommend this appliance to my worst enemy. The plastic rails in the drum break on spin and if you put more than 2 shirts in drum they break! 13GBP each to replace every 5 minutes! Gets stuck in washes. Please take my advie! Unfortunately, I rent my home and this appliance was included. This is the worse washer/dryer I have ever seen in my life. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE! Comfortably the worst appliance I've ever brought. Thirteen break down calls and counting. Long gaps to get an engineer out - usually a couple of weeks. We bought a BWD129 about 4 years ago - we also bought an extended warranty from the retailer. Hugely unreliable waste of money. It has a quick wash which is useful. The first machine was replaced within 2 months of purchase for failing, after a further 9 months the replacement has also decided it doesn't want to wash. I agree with most of this review. Our WD420 was prone to problems (all of them electronic), After having the engineers out several times within the first 3-4 months, we insisted that Hotpoint changed the machine. Hotpint resisted this, but said depending on the engineer's report they might. The engineer agreed there was a problem and Hotpoint agreed to change the machine Great !!!! No quite..... the replacement was near enough the same, and subsequent engineers have told me the machines suffered with EPROM problems. Basically the machines program would become corrupt and the machine just stopped working. Now stuck with a fairly new machine that is just outside warranty and is as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Hotpoint want a minimum of £89.98 to even come and look at it. Think we'll cut our losses and buy a new machine, but it certainly won't be Hotpoint.

I've had the Hotpoint BWD129 washer dryer for just over a year. I've had the engineer out once for a pen that dislodged a plug at the back, resulting in the kitchen being flooded.
Overall, I find the machine OK. It takes an age to wash a normal everyday wash, so I tend to put it on quick wash quite often.

I totally agree with this reviewer as my husband has just sent me this review to say I could have written it myself.
