Good Points: its done 150,000 miles and still drives like new! It's huge! great fuel economy, Fantastic comfort, I love it.
Bad Points: Erm........... It has a weird thing where the suspension goes up and down if not left right, even when locked?
General comments: When I was a lad, which is a while ago, I remember seeing a great big, daft Citroen estate parked up with the back end on bricks and most of the running gear gone. My Dad told me never to buy a Citroen as the suspension is a right nightmare when it goes wrong and I held this belief for a long, long time.
I inherited my Citroen C5 as a company car. It is a 2.0L HDI SX and about 8 years old now. I did not have much choice as it was the one offered to me by the company I was working for. I ran it up and down the UK for about 3 years and must admit gave it a bit of stick at times. Eventually the Company decided to upgrade the cars and I was so impressed by it, my upgraded car was the new look C5 exclusive.
I was offered the chance to buy the old one and snapped it up for the wife. We have run it as the family car for about 5 years and I just cannot praise the thing more. I know I must have got one of the "good ones" from reading the less flattering reviews on this site but it really is like part of the family now.
The fuel efficiency even at 150,000 miles later is astounding and it just does not use oil! I am rubbish at doing the servicing thing so it has not had one for 5 years, poor thing. I bet with a decent service and a wash (something else it does not get) it would look a couple of years old. Of course my wife has knocked all the corners off and re designed some of the trim so it looks a bit of a mess but underneath it is still top notch.
Not a single speck of rust anywhere, Everything still works (including the suspension!) I just cannot praise the car enough. I know it is in its retirement now and things will start to go wrong but thats cars for you, even rollers go wrong eventually.
To sum up, we have just taken the kids (us plus 3 little angels) on a round trip to legoland in windsor from doncaster and the car was packed to the gunnells. We got in, the suspension re adjusted itself to the heavy laod and off we went. 500 long miles later and it still drove like it did when it had 10,000 miles on the clock. We will have to lose it soon as the wee ones are getting bigger and as big as it is, it's not designed for 5 full time. I will miss it greatly and will proudly proclame it "THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED"
The day I pass the keys to some spotty car sales boy, I will truthfully have a tear in my eye. Good car, that'll do.

This is the best car I have ever owned. I have driven 40,000 miles in just over a year and once serviced this car will never let you down. It is half the price of an Avensis with twice the comfort and equal reliability. Don't be misled by the badge. xtreme comfort, Fuel efficiency, Looks, Reliability are all good.

I sold my 2004 BMW 530D series touring for a series 2, 1.6HDi C5 Estate. Yup , that's right! And so far it's been great. Less rattles and fewer weird faults etc. It's not the focused sports estate that the BMW was, and it's not as fast, but you would NEVER guess it's a 1.6 diesel. I do around 35,000 miles per year, so economy and comfort are important. I get at least 47 plus mpg, even when pushing on. And get this...it's quieter around town than the 530D, although just a bit noisier at 90. Ride ...

The Citroen C5 2.0 SX 16V is well put together and extremely comfortable. Shunned by reviewers, it sheds its money quicker than a footballer in a casino. However, for the canny second hand buyer after an upmarket car, there's little to touch it. The best bit is that there are surprisingly few on British roads, so even with its bland looks, you still stand out from the crowd.

I'm hearing more bad things - electronics issues etc. I'm worried that scrapping the car or getting rid may be best way to avoid heavy maintenance costs as the car gets older; is this probable?

My Citroen C5 2.0 SX 16V nearly killed me. It went into 'limp' mode as I crossed a busy A road. There were cars all round me skidding this way and that. It's gone into 'limp' mode 5 times since then and neither of 3 Citroen agents can cure it.

Having had 5 Volvos and a Mercedes C class, getting into the Citroen C5 2.0 SX 16V, the first thing you notice is that everything feels flimsy like its gonna break with little use. Vague steering, sensor problems. Why do you think Citroen offer massive discounts. They know that they'll recoup the money from owners on spare parts. Just on opening the glove compartment lid you feel as if it's about to snap. Get into a C5 with 50,000 on the clock and it feels dead, seats sag, trim rattles and god o ...

A review of the Citroen C5 2.0 SX 16V
Last year, the car spent 5 months in the garage with an undiagnosable fault. My garage tried for several months to source a 'sensor' from France to repair it, but were unable to find one. Citroen UK were the most unhelpful, lazy-minded, useless group I have ever dealt with. One contact there told me he had been trying very hard for the last few weeks to get the car sorted out. On further questioning, it turned out that all he had done for those weeks was t ...

Becuase of a mistake of Citroen garage, The C5 gear box had got a problem and I stayed in the middle of a small town in Bulgaria. I had to organize a truck to take the car to the nearest Citroen service (130 km). Luckly, the Citroen garage was very good and repaired the gear without having a new spare part and I could go back to Turkey. Otherwise, I would have to stay in Bulgaria for 2 or 3 weeks until they get the part from France. It took 3 weeks for Citroen Turkey to get it.
I can not contr ...

I have had 2 Xantias which I loved, but the Citroen C5 is just that little bit extra.
I think it is a lovely looking car.
The water off the boot lid annoys me but hey, is any car perfect,!.
I think I am just a Citroenphile!!.

The Citroen C5 is the exclusive version and with discount is great value for money. Fuel economy is OK on motorways averaging 37/38 mpg. But on local trips or slow roads it drops considerably as auto box rarely gets into top--perhaps diesel is torquier and better in these circumstances. Car is used for towing a caravan which it does effortlessly but with a considerable increase in fuel consumption (mid 20s). With a 2 year interval servicing costs are not yet known and so far only outlay has been ...

Okay here we go! We've had our Citroen C5 for almost 2 years now and I can only think of one slight problem we have had, and this doesn't involve the car! Getting the tires balanced was tricky, but we found a place in the end.
But so far it hasn't broken down, and here is a fact that has astounded me, it hasn't used any oil at all! it is still full from when we put some in when we first brought it. I want to praise the sound system! You can change the Bass, pitch and can set the volumne dial ...

I bought my C5 10 days ago. the test drive was uneventful, and its space and comfort seduced me. But, after we married.. my world fell apart, and all was not as it seemed.
To date the following have happened...
1) Car will not easily engage into reverse first thing in the morning (or if left for more than 6 hours).
2) Left trafficator ceased functioning, although hazard lights all work, and when locking/unlocking all trafficators flash.
3) Radio/CD will decide whether to come on or not. ...

I read one of the reviews about the Citroen C5, and likewise I am disgusted with the safety issues.
I purchased my C5 just over a year ago, and I paid £6500 for it. Citroen have put right under warranty £5500 worth of faults, this includes the following:-
1. Throttle cable came loose, and nearly ended up costing me my life in a pile up.
2. Driver window motor has had to be replaced
3. 2 brand new clutches, note that I have only ever driven 8 cars in my 18 years of driving an ...

I have owned the Citroen C5 2.0 SX 16V for 4 months only and I had to replace the headlight bulbs for 3 times. I couldn't replace them myself because it is too difficult and awkward to replace the bulbs in a C5. I had to take the car to a garage 3 times and pay for such a simple task. My C5 is only 3 year old and had only 34000 miles in the clock when I bought it 4 months ago. The mileage now is only 39000 miles. How can a car of this age and mileage visit the car mechanic so often?.
I am a bi ...
