I have placed many orders with Chums and have been generally satisfied with the quality of the clothing supplied. This year I returned a £20 garment as the style did not match the catalogue picture and which I considered unsuitable. I returned it, under their promise of free returns, but after several weeks am still awaiting the refund, in spite of sending a reminder and supplying details of the return parcel. I now get further sales promotions trying to solicit new orders and offerinf extra discounts. I guess that Chums is struggling with a liquidity problem and is desperately anxious to shift stock. Don't trust their customer service. Avoid.

Purchased a pack of 4 Silentnight pillows through Wowcher, which is a first experience and which I had to go the Chums site, put in my voucher number to purchase. The site did not accept the Wowcher code and after several attempts, somehow the wording 'voucher code' came up in the box and which I then put in the code which it accepted - now why didn't I know I had too put in 'voucher code'! There was a £4.99 delivery charge which I attempted to pay but the site did not accept my details. I rang Chum and the receptionist said she would put me on hold - I said I wasn't happy with this as they were charging 10p per minute. She said she would ring me back, which, in all fairness she did, 3 times. Firstly she asked me for a customer number - I gave her all the numbers that Wowcher had given me but their system didn't seem to recognise any. I asked if I could pay her the £4.99 over the phone - no, you can only do it online. Eventually she rang me back to say the payment had gone through - when I asked what was the problem (as I thought maybe my account had been hacked and had no money in the account). She said they had lots of problems with the Wowcher codes - I reminded her that it wasn't the code that was the problem now, but them accepting my payment details. I spent my entire lunch break sorting this out. I have now had a card through my letterbox to say I have a parcel (within just a few days); however, it would have been nice if it was delivered to my works address as I had requested! I won't use them again! I can't review the goods as I am now having to run around to collect the parcel because it wasn't delivered to the correct address.

The telephone service of this company is very bad. I had reason to contact them over an article they supplied for my wife. The answering service does advise that calls will be charged at10p per minute but I waited for them to answer not believing that I would wait over 5 minutes each time. There were 4 occasions this happened and I ended up paying £5.60 in phone charges from BT.I made the calls at different times of the day. If they can earn additional profits from having an inefficient service why would they change. I wrote complaining about these charges but why would they bother to reply. STAY CLEAR

I paid for item online, my bank tells me the money has been taken from my account but Chums web tells me that cannot process the order. Tried calling them on a PREMIUM RATE telephone number, eventually spoke to an advisor who said they would call me back next day at 9am, it is now 10.48 still no call. So in short they have my money but cannot process my order. WHY? Such a shame as the product is good but the company is badly let down by poor customer service!!!

Very disappointing indeed, no razor blade holder in with the pit, so unable to use, I sent one back got one back still not able to use, and yet pictures in advert and box suggest you can use right away. Incorrect advertising. Expensive on enquiry line, left hanging about, at 10p a minute. No star rating. A very poor buy as far as I'am concertned.

There should be a button for 'Terrible, could very easily do far better'. I bought a pair of nightshirts from Chums, and they finally need replacing. The quality was good, my husband was delighted with them, and between the 2 of them they lasted every night for 7 years. So I've just revisited the Chums website. HOWEVER... This is how it went 7 years ago; Saw a Chums special-offer advert with a form, in a UK paper, for 2 nightshirts. 2-3 months later, I finally got round to going to the website (same URL as now). I found that the nightshirts were still on special offer, and that they were willing to ship to Ireland (which a lot of UK websites aren't, usually because it's never dawned on them to think about it; it was even more so back then). The special offer was even available to customers here in Ireland. I emailed them (to avoid international phone charges) one evening, to check availability & any extra postage, and got a reply at noon the next day with; Postage charge to Ireland (very reasonable), and a phone number to order with (as the website didn't recognise special offers). The items were out of stock, but expected in again in 2 weeks. (In case you're wondering about the paper form, it wouldn't have worked, being designed for UK addresses, & with UK postage already filled in etc). I duly waited 2 weeks & rang again, they were in stock and they did my order (all in the 1 call, very quick & friendly). I can't find the date the parcel arrived (with a packet of flower seeds included as a little thank you), but the invoice that came with it is dated the day after the order. This is how it goes now; I find the same nightshirts on the website. Preparing to buy some, I look for mentions of overseas orders. I find one - eventually - in the Terms & Conditions. It's that customers outside the UK can't order online at all now! (And there was me thinking the world had been getting smaller). So, to minimise the phone charges, I first email the contact address the website gives ([email protected]), asking if the items are in stock, what the postage is, and whether I can order by email. My email bounces back, saying 'invalid mailbox' I double-check the address; no mistake in it but I try again, and it duly bounces again. So I search for forum postings about Chums, to see if they've gone out of business, and find all these comments here. (Chums still in business then. In spite of being so difficult to contact. How on earth do they do it, surrounded by good businesses failing every day?) It now seems that not only do I have to do it all by international phone calls, but they're also to a premium number, and also I have to hang on to it for goodness knows how long before even getting through... OK Chums, you win - I give up.

The dear old mother-in-law gave me a copy of the Chums catalogue as she knew I wanted a couple of items and had seen some in the book. Off went I signed up and placed my order. Some three weeks later I e-mailed them to find out what had happened to the items, only to be told there had been a problem with my order at the warehouse. 'Never mind we will send them priority' and fair enough they turned up two days later. Unfortunatly, both items were too large so off they went back to Chums via one of their collection centres. I had cancelled one item but asked for a smaller size in the other. Two weeks went by before I recieved a letter advising me that my account was £17.00 overdue??? What? Thought I, I haven't yet recieved any goods yet! I tried phoning Chums and spent ages waiting for a response. I then e-mailed the previous contact in customer services who, it has to be said, was most helpfull and resolved the problem straight away. I had by now secured another product and closed my account with Chums, not the best of experiences and if this was par for the course customer sevices have their work cut out.

I orderd a skirt in Brown for my mother as she can't get out to the shops. They sent Taupe which was another colour that they made it in. I sent it back and only received the cost of the skirt not the postage and as they sent the wrong item I think they should have refunded it all. I wouldn't use them again.

I have ordered twice from them and they delivered both products within a reasonable time. The first product I was happy with but the second product did not quite fit properly so I sent it back within 7 days. Unfortunately I was refunded for the product, but not the postage costs. This policy for me contradicts the 'spirit' of the Distance Selling Regulations, which is disappointing. Thus beware that you will not be refunded postage for returns unless it is faulty or damaged.

As usual, delivery time was as promised and prompt, but,BEWARE!!! the 10p per minute call charge to place your order. After 5 attempts on the 18th October to actually speak to someone,2 of which were just cut off in mid-call,i've just checked on my call charges for my phone, and the calls cost £8-00!! When this is added to the cost of the order.i.e.£59.97+£4-25p&p= ££64-22 a total of £72-22 is arrived at. Why,in heaven's name, are people being charged 10p per minute to give ANY company business?Should they not set up a Freephone number to give people a little more incentive to spend?? As a regular customer of Chums for a good few years now, they've recieved their last order from me unless that ridiculous 10p per minute rip-off phone charge is scrapped, and i WILL be chasing a refund for the cost of placing the order, but i'll do it by email, not on a probable 10p per minute call to their Customer Services.

I would agree 100% with this comment, just experienced the exact same.
Only wish I had checked the reviews before placing an order
