Good Points: Mains were really well cooked. I had the duck and it was pretty much perfect. The interior is very nice and promotes a good atmosphere. Gentle lighting, the absence of loud music and elegant decor.
Bad Points: It's a plus point that draught beer was available but the insistance on only serving half pints instead of full ones just seems utterly ridiculous. What are they trying to say about people who drink pints! The desserts were quite disappointing compared to the quality of the main meals. Also, the menu was very small and we would have really liked a bit more choice. The staff were efficient but gave the impression of being a little bit snobby. I really hate it when waiters/ waitressess look down on you.
General comments: I have mixed feelings about Jem & I. The quality of the cooked food was really very good and the interior feels very cosy. However, what really ruins this restaurant in my opinion is the attitude of some of the staff. Our waitress couldn't manage a smile and generally seemed unimpressed. However, she was professional and polite at all times. The worst thing though was the 2 hour time slot we were allocated because it was a Saturday night. Particularly when the waitress politely informed us that we would need to pay the bill quickly because they were waiting for the table. This is the kind of thing I expect from a cheap, all you can eat buffet. I'd expect a little more class from somewhere like Jem & I.
