“Awkward to extend or change your policy!”

I have been a customer for annual trip insurance with Direct Travel Insurance for many years and found them satisfactory. This year my auto renewal price shot up over 20% and when I rang to find out why there was such an increase no-one could tell me. (I am a slim, healthy, non-smoking female in my fifties). “No customer service”

After making several mistakes with my insurance I decided to terminate the policy, Eight emails later and at least six telephone calls ( calls cost more than the actual policy ) I was informed I would be getting a refund and compensation for my time and calls, Five weeks later I have received the refund for my policy , but still after three telephone conversations and as many promises that the check had been posted, still nothing. “'No hassle' claim. Fantastic service!”

Due to a death in the family, we had to delay going on our holiday to a gite in France. We had to pay supplements to Ryanair for changing flights, we lost 4 days' stay at the gite and four days' car hire. Added to that, my wife broke her Kindle DX on the second day! It took a bit of time getting the right documents but Travel Direct paid out in full! There had to be two claims: we paid 2 excesses (£75 per person) for the holiday loss and 1 excess (my wife) for her Kindle. Highly recommended!… Read Full Review

“Extraordinary customer service with health claim”

This company are amazing. We always use them for health insurance during short trips to the US. Really, they should refuse us cover (but they never do!) cos we keep getting unlucky and making small claims (eg one of our kids cut his finger open and it needed a stitch) which in the US system cost $thousands. They pick up the phone immediately (no waits or listening to music or messages), are extremely helpful, and deal with the hospital payments system directly themselves. “Excellent Customer Relationship Skills”

I travel quite a bit every year and getting travel insurance is a no brainer. After having searched for a while on the most competitive multi trip insurance out there I found direct travel insurance truly direct in the areas that they cover, pricing and purchase process. Totally incompetent, do not go with them. Excess is too high better deals around have rang up three times and still not received the right cover completely incompetent.

After long time, this year ended up very unhealthy in Las Vegas and was taken to a hospital quickly. As soon as the insurance was phoned they could not be more helpful. Direct Travel advised us to keep all our bills for cabs etc. They phoned us every day and advised us on what to do next. We phoned them to tell them I had been discharged from hospital and they arranged a flight that night back to the UK with a cab waiting for us at the other end to take us right to our door. On the phone ten minutes going through all the preexisting medical conditions Then told that the heart and prostate cancer I had declared would not be covered. What sort of mickey mouse insurance is this? Try Avanti or Saga and obtain insurance that what gives you the cover that is needed. How can any insurance company send you on holiday without full cover? InsureandGo UK you're fired! Regards, If you do not cover heart and cancer inform in your advertisements.

“Low cost than Columbus Direct”

Before heading to Cyprus, I did a lot of research online and found Direct Travel insurance was the lowest even when compared with Columbus Direct..... Unfortunately, on the second day of the holiday to Cyprus, I was taken ill with a chest infection leading to pneumonia. I was in hospital for 5 days. “Cheaper Than Post Office Travel Insurance”

I have used other travel insurances for the last 5 years. This time I went for Direct Travel Insurance and to my surprise it was quick, reliable and, if i can use it, then anyone can. “Peace of mind”

Unfortunately, our trip had to be cancelled due to medical reasons. Direct Travel representatives not only empathized with us, but offered advice every step of our claim. The claim was part settled within 7 days - the airline cancelled out tickets ensuring all the paperwork was in place. “Amazing speed”

I purchased insurance for a last minute river cruise. A few days later I fell in and had to cancell. The trip cost me £5590 but only took insurance out for £5000 cancellation. The lady on the phone said it take 1-2 days to process. On day two I emailed in and the lady replied that it has been succesful and that the payment of £5000 was on the way to my bank via bacs and it will take 3-5 working days to hit it. Have been with direct ravel for last 8 years. Claimed delayed departure due serious illness of close relative about 6 or 7 years ago and was refunded in full with very little hassle. Unfortunately had to claim again this week in very similar circumstances due to my Dad being taken ill (in intensive care) and direct travel would not even send me the claim forms and said I was not covered. “When you need them, they let you down”

In simple terms our Ryan Air return flight from Rome, Italy was cancelled. There were 4 of us. There were flights available later that day at a cost of £500 each. But instead we went for the cheaper option of Jet2 flights that returned to the UK 2 days later at a cost of £200 each. So the flights were £800 instead of £2,000. “Renewal ”

BEWARE - CHECK THEIR PRICING! As a long standing customer I had always received a competitive renewal price plus a discount of 10% on that. Now with price changes renewal rate went up over 60% (£58) - no claims ever made. The 'discount' is now 'up to' 10% but in reality comes out at under 5% when you compare to their 'on-line' new customer rate. Do they really want repeat business? I agree - I have also been a long standing client and have always found them to be exceptional on the phone when renewing. NOT this year - rude abrupt unfriendly staff. Whatever have you done to a lovely company?? My policy quote went up from £111 to £178, also having never claimed !! Beware !!

“What would you have liked to know before you made your...”

I accidently dropped my mobile phone in the swimming pool water and I couldn’t use it during my holiday. After I came back I talked to claim department regarding this and they told me it’s not cover in the insurance. I looked on the word policy document on page 38 and found they is right. But my question is if its doesn’t cover this kind of valuable items, which will cost me £120 to fix then what’s the point of doing this kind of insurance? My annual world wide premium last year was £51.32 I received my renewal notice today for £103.40!! When I telephoned their office I was told that this is the best they can do for me - all policy's have increased due to natual disasters and increases in medical costs. Well it's not the best that I can do for me! “Sneaky Business Practice”

I purchased Option four backpacker insurance and was pleased with the price. However after having my camera, phone and some money stolen I am no longer satisfied with Direct Travel. Despite these three items being stolen at the same time, under the same police report and incident, I was charged the excess twice!
