We've used direct travel as a family for a number of years, and thankfully never had to claim. I've always been impressed with their service particularly where pre exisitng conditions have been concerned, having been diagnosed with a severe allergy just prior to going away and being told it would be covered without question. This year due to the ash cloud, we missed a connecting flight and had to rebook, I will add we took the premium cover level as this is the only one that covers connecting flights that are not part of a package. Sent the claims forms 4 weeks ago and just recieved a checque for the full amount, no excess. Very pleased!! Would recommmend to anyone and my family will certainly be continuing using them for travel insurance

I was delayed in Nepal due to the ash cloud. On my return the company wrote to me telling me that I could claim and the categories under which i could claim.I was sent the forms but as I was suffering from CBAS * syndrome I 'phoned them. I got through straightaway to a very pleasant and helpful lady who went through some details with me and said that they would pay the money into my account shortly.

It is worth noting that in my hotel in Nepal I met a travel insurance broker who told me that tra ...

Not worth printing the policy out for the chance of getting cover! My partner was taken ill in Spain and I called the emergency contact centre and spoke to a heavily accented French girl in a very noisy call centre. This, combined with a bad Spanish phone line, made communication difficult.
The girl went through an elaborate number of questions and suggested we had to contact a medical centre around 100km away for an appointment.
After a lot of hassle I decided to fly my partner home and paid a ...

This is the first time I've ever gone out of my way to write a review. After being on the sidelines for a number of years, I decided it's time to "give back".

I was insured with Direct Travel Insurance after reading a number of reviews online and found it to be a cheap solution with minimal issues when requiring a claim. I bought an annual multi-trip travel insurance (Europe only) with ski trip option. It cost about 50quid. I travel a lot around Europe so I felt it was very good value. Most of ...

I fell ill whilst on a cruise in the Canaries and had to be transfered to hospital on Gran Canaria. I picked up all the bills myself (I may not have needed to but it was easiest under the circumstances)on return to the UK I had to get a form completed by my GP to say that my illness was unexpected and that I had no reason not to have travelled and then they paid out (less the excess) within 3 weeks. The only issue was they insisted on using their Euro / Pound exchange rate not mine but I think I ...

I (only) claimed for £15 extra airport car parking as my flight from Kenya got me home one day late. The claim was refused as it was the internal connecting flight that was the problem (it was cancelled so I missed the flight to London from Nairobi), not the one to the UK.

That was bad enough but it's taken my 4 months to get to that point as I had to send endless emaiols and explanations just to get a claim form to complete. Now that has been sent in and refused I still do not have my po ...

I HAD been insured with direct travel insurance for over 5 years. I had one previous claim in 2006 which was dealt with and settled promptly over the phone in a matter of minutes. However, in the intervening period, DIRECT TRAVEL INS. had changed their underwriter from AXA to AIG "Travel assist".
My son was ill while on holiday and I was, in communication with their travel assistance department at all times. I was told I would be covered for all expenses in relation to the claim (obviously minu ...

I bought "comprehensive" annual insurance with Direct Travel, underwritten by AIG Ltd. I checked all the small print and it looked like a good deal. I flew with Aer Lingus from Belfast to London, having checked in my backpack. Aer Lingus lost my backpack and it was never seen again. Direct Travel refused to pay for it as they said the baggage was "UNATTENDED" I pointed out it was not, it was in the safe custody of an airline and they stated that the small print stated it was classed as unattende ...

I bought insurance from Direct Travel Insurance because I read the reviews on this website. Me and my son paid £12 for 1 week in Turkey. To be honest I was startled by the very low price and thought it would be a huge battle to ever make a claim if I needed!
Yes I needed to. One day of severe food poisoning led to a night in Turkish intensive care!
I never paid "up front" for expenses and me and my son were kept in a private room until I recovered.

My verdict for this company is EXCELLENT ...

My wife recently broke her leg on a skiing holiday in Austria. Having never claimed before I didn't know what to expect but with me making only one phone call from the village clinic Direct Travel Insurance took care of everything else - contacting the hospital prior to our arrival - speaking to the surgeon - arranging with the airline for extra seats home etc. I didn't have to worry about a thing. Didn't even pay for anything. I took this for granted until I spoke with others in a similar situa ...

I had an accident ruptured a ligament in my leg. I was unable to walk and had to keep my leg in a straight brace. It was very difficult to fly home! Direct Travel Insurance sorted out extra seats for me on the plane. Then on my return I put in the claim for all the treatment, medical supplies i had to pay for etc even the taxi fare i had to pay to get me back to my resort. Thinking this is when you find out how good an insurance company is! I thought it would be a while and probably a lot of has ...

My family have used Direct Travel Insurance since 2003. They have been SO good that I have never felt the need to look elsewhere. I originally found them via the internet when choosing for the cheapest (hey, we ALL hope we don't have to claim!). Was VERY impressed at the price - it was way, way under what other companies were charging. And the catch? Absolutely nothing!! The first holiday we had covered by them, my daughter came down with the cryptosporadia virus that had plagued Alcudia, ...

Have used their annual policy for a few years now and have always found the price of their quote to be very competitive. They always handle enquiries efficiently and simplify your requests for additional cover. I have not had to make a claim so far and touch wood I won't have to but so far so good.
