“Auto renewed without authorisation”

took out a single trip policy for europe, I then discovered that Greenland according to Insure and Go is not in Europe (according to the Foreign Office it is part of Denmark, but then what do they know!) Too late to cancel policy which cost me £89 (cos I needed cancellation cover just under £6000 which is only reason I chose them as few companies will offer cover for this amount) As a special favour (?!!) so they said they would refund this if I then paid for Worldwide cover. “SIX MONTHS TO SETTLE!”

My young-adult son was diagnosed with a serious illness at the end of June 2012 one week before my family were due to depart for Portugal for our family holiday. He required medical treatment and the holiday had to be cancelled, and I sent the claims forms recorded delivery towards the end of July. When you call they tell you that they sent a letter 3 weeks ago (funny that you never received it) and that it stated on page two of the original policy a year earlier that it would auto renew. so you are left out of pocket. “travel insurance”

Be very careful when you take out this insurance - read your policy carefully. It will automatically be renewed unless you cancel. You should receive a letter before renewal, I didn't and mine was renewed, when I complained that no letter had been received warning of renewal, they said they had sent it and could do nothing. I have now payed for a years insurance that i did not want. Make sure you cancel in time. (read more)

We had a hire car which we parked on the busy road outside the restaurant. I think that you need to refer to your policy booklet Section E1 Personal belongings and baggage. You are covered for.............. 4) "Any money or valuables that you have stolen from an unattended motor vehicle". 5) "Any baggage or personal belongings that is stolen from your vehicle roof rack". This is worded quite clearly and I suggest you have a strong claim against this company, I would suggest a small claims court. I am not legally trained though.

Aceflyer's Comment

Written on: 05/02/2013

I have looked again at this contract and am absolutely amazed. I assume this incident was not between 2200 hrs and 0800hrs, (I think I have got that right) so they are not refusing your insurance on those grounds. Are they saying there were no signs of forced entry, refusing on those grounds. I am sure people will read E1- 4) & 5). when taking this out and not read the exclusions, which would involve a few tedious hours, because they have been lulled into a false sense of security by these two 'covered for clauses'. And I think this company realise this and think they can get away with the exclusion clauses which positively say "you are not covered for money and valuables stolen" and " you are not covered for any baggage or personal belongings that is stolen from your roof rack. So I think I have fully highlighted your problem in my initial response to your question ie I was misled by the wording and didn't expect them to insert exclusion clauses which gave the exact opposite to the inclusion clauses. I think that it is this company's full intention to mislead in the first place and protect themselves from claims in the second. That is why I said I am absolutely amazed that a company should have its legal team work so hard to avoid paying out AT ALL. I think, after reading this contract that they should be avoided like the plague. But I would be interested to see the outcome if this contract was tested in a court of law.

This is quite clearly stated in the policy booklets and along with the information that you will be informed by mail prior to them doing this. While this is annoying one answer is not to lodge your credit card details with a company when you pay for something ie use a third party like PayPal, so they don't receive your card info. or check that the company uses the services of something like World Pay. w that I always hesitate when I am in a position were I have to use a credit card

The last part of my response should have read, That is the reason I always hesitate when I am invited to use a credit card were the details are lodged with the supplying company, without these or similar facilities. One snag with a few firms when using a credit card is exactly that, they can use it for an automatic renewal so always check this and avoid using your card in this situation and pay by some other means.

I had the misfortune to break a bone in my leg whilst on holiday a couple of months ago. Insure & Go are horrendous to deal with. They never told us which hospital to use so I ended at the wrong one & had to discharge myself after treatment, pay a bill before going through the same procedure again at the right hospital! Nearly every phone call made to them where they needed to call me back, never happened. Even when still abroad they were meant to call me about various queries but never... (read more)

Where did you go? Why did you have to go to a specific hospital, didn't the ambulance take you to the correct one?

“Appalling customer service”

Written on: 01/08/2012 by LividLawyer

This company is a joke. Their representatives are rude, disorganised and completely incompetent... but don't worry; you'll probably never get through to them anyway. After spending 7 MONTHS trying to contact them via phone I wrote to their complaints department. 3 weeks later and I have yet to receive a response so I rang them. Their representative was rude, tried to blame ME for the delays in my claim and suggested that I was stupid for not keeping a THIRD copy of the form that THEY had... (read more)

“Disgraceful Debenhams Rip Off”

Written on: 26/07/2012 by overdrawnaccount

We took out a travel insurance policy through Debenhams as they are a reputable firm. Unfortunately whilst we were abroad my wife was taken ill and had to be taken to hospital. It does state in the policy that in these kind of circumstances one has to obtain clearance by contacting a telephone number in England. This in itself was a nightmare it took me over an hour to get through then they gave me another number to call, this took forty minutes. During this time I was being pressed by the... (read more)

“Don't trust this company”

Written on: 11/07/2012

Paid for travel documents to be sent to my home, 2 weeks later they still hadn't arrived. After many phone calls I was assured they would be with me in time for my holidays. This did not happen, they were in my mailbox when I arrived home from holidays. I did contact them when I came home only to be spoken to by a condescending customer relations officer who was very rude. I will never use insure and go again and will make sure all my family and friends do the same. Absolutely disgusting... (read more)

“COMPLETE RIP OFF!! ”

Written on: 25/06/2012 by chloe12

I insuranced my apple iphone 4 with Insure and Go because it seemed a trust worthy liable company! After having my phone stolen I got a crime number reported it basically did everything I should with Insure and Go! They denied my claim because it wasn’t stolen from me with threatened or forceful behavior! I didn’t realise that their customers had to be hurt in the process of being able to claim!!!!!!! Theft is theft at the end of the day and because it was took out of my bag and not... (read more)
