My wife experienced a very bad fall in Western Australia resulting in a broken femur. This require transportation via the Royal Flying Doctor Service in order to get to Fremantle Hospital for a hip operation. During my wife's hospitalisation, I had to remain in a local hotel for two weeks before repatriation back to the UK, due to the risk of DVT on such a long flight. Saga apparently contract this service out through a services company Capita who where always very professional when contacted, taking into account the time zone difference. When my wife was discharged from hospital, this was of great concern for me since i felt very inadequate having very limited medical knowledge and living in a hotel room. Saga/Capita always had a trained nurse available on the phone to offer medical advice. Two medical nurses where sent out from the UK to assist my wife in repatriation and flew Business Class. I had to fly economy, not a great problem for me as I new my wife was in the hands of very experienced medical nurses. The whole repatriation procedure was handled carefully with flight transfers during the 10 hour flight. The reimbursement of incurred expenses was reasonable for an insurance company, provided you had kept all receipts. Overall considering the poor reputation of insurance companies, I have to say Saga are probably better than most, or the best of a bad bunch. After reading some of the other reviews, I can only comment on the service we received. One point to be aware of is that they would only cover one person in the hotel, they would not cover my daughters expenses. She was expected to return home and leave her mother in Australia.
