Good Points: heated grips, chrome extensions on the handle bar for comfortable riding position, the linked and ABS brake. This bike stops in about 2/3 the distance of my Electra Glide. The linked brakes and ABS keep you out of trouble when you need it most. Cornering and cruising are excellent.

Bad Points: Very top heavy and difficult to handle at low speed. If you have to hit the brake making a real slow turn the bike will go over. It seems more susceptible to this making a right turn that a left. I can't figure that out. Obviously more pronounced with a passenger. The problem with the torque I described above. The CD player tends to skip a little more than I like. My Electra Glide has much more power. The BMW is adequate but has no grin factor taking off.

General comments: I bought this BMW R1200 CLC 1200 bike in April 2007. I bought it in Chicago off the internet and drove it home to Baltimore in one day. Great smooth ride. I've ridden it from Baltimore to Charleston SC and also to utah. Excellent riding position. The CD and cruise control make for a great ride. I also have a 2001 Harley Electra Glide Classic I've owned since it was new. I prefer the rising positino on the BMW. One REAL problem with the BMW is the engine torque and the effect on a right turn. If you start slowly and lean into a right turn from a stop and mash the throttle, the engine torque raises up the rear wheel. This is a drive shaft bike and between the rotation of the drive shaft, the length of the bike making the rear end light and the engine torque, the rear wheel slides. My son, several years riding experience, had the bike come out from under him. I've been riding for over 30 years and the wheel's slid on my, but I didn't lose the bike. I now use caution when accelerating on a hard right turn.

If blinding speed is not your thing and comfort/versatility are, the BMW R1200 is a fantastic bike. Well thought out and attractive, this bike is a joy to cruise on. Nice look, very comfortable, even for 2up riding. Fun and smooth, but boxer engine gives a nice light rumble that you dont find in the K series tourers.

The BMW R1200 CLC 1200is super comfortable and looks fabulous without the trunk. Its limited production run of 2 years makes this bike rare and people always compliment its look and claim they have never seen one. Smooth.quiet and subtle. The heated grips and seats combined with powerlets to plug in heated riding gear makes this a year round bike in California.

I've had my BMW R1200 for 4 years and has over 50,000 miles. In that time I had 1 warranty issue with the radio. I do most of the maintenance myself, so I don't feel the pain of Dealer repairs (except for tire changes). It has been a great bike for long rides and have had it all over the NorthEast area and out to the Mid-West a couple of times.

Great all around bike. Very well made but could be cost extra to maintain. This is not a gas and go bike but darn close to it. I have owned many many many big touring bikes and this one is the best of all of them.

The bike seemed like a good buy new, but after a year and a half, with rotors blowing apart, chrome flaking everywhere, shocks blowing out, ABS module dying, radio malfunctioning, and poor dealer/BMW Inc. warranty and assistance, this bike is worthless.

Rotors run 600 apiece to replace, shock around 1200, ABS about 2500, and remember...you will be replacing these parts every 6-8k for the lifetime of the bike! BMW refuses to warranty the trash.

The dealer will treat you like garbage, the co ...
