Persuaded to take ultimate reward with travel insurance, 3-4 years ago. Last summer we took a family holiday in Paris but got robbed during day, losing passports. 1. The insurance policy couldn't cover the loss of passports because 'they should be kept in a hotel safe'. 2. The original documents submitted to first assist were not returned to us. 3. I had to call them to find out that the case was closed. (they sent a text message which I didn't notice) Check very carefully what can and... (read more)

5year old daughter fell on holiday so I rang and they were fantastic told me which hospital to attend for her in orlando (childrens one) by the time that I got to the hospital they had received the fax confirming cover, she was seen and had fractured her arm. Whilst still away the rang to see how we had got on and so far on our return all I have had to do is send the discharge letter from the hospital. So all in all I have had a fantastic experience. I must point out though that I did try to... (read more)

Reading other reviews on this site, I can only assume Halifax and their insurer have got their act together since 2012. Due to bereavement December 2013), had to cancel holiday one week before departure. Initial contact to start claim was easy and met by a very sympathetic lady. Forms delivered very quickly. Returned, four days later text received to say full cost of holiday to be paid within five days. Highly recommend Halifax Rewards and full marks to First Assist Insurance Services. (read more)

Moved my account on advice of my branch, pay monthly fee for travel insurance/mobile phone insurance and breakdown. What a waste of money. First claim and they are trying every excuse not to pay. The person who contacted me was SO rude and made me feel like a liar. So will be cancelling/closing account and going elsewhere - so annoyed because of my losses and the hassle it is going to be to change my accounts. Wish I had read these reviews before I decided to go with Ultimate Reward Account... (read more)

Mother died shortly before we were due to go to America, called Halifax travel insurance and talked to a very understanding girl who forwarded us all relevant forms, within 10 days full refund ( minus excess) We also received a nice letter of condolence which we thought was a very nice gesture. Cannot fault service at all and would not hesitate to recommend. (read more)

DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE!!! We booked a holiday a year in advance and paid £349 deposit and then we discovered my wife was pregnant a couple of months later. Phoned up to make a claim, staff rude and no people skills. She then advised we were not covered because she was due to give birth within 12 weeks of the travel date and they only cover if you are due to give birth either 12 weeks before travel date or 12 weeks after! Hang On... So if you are due to give birth while you would have... (read more)

Terrible customer service and rude staff. Very patronising on the phone. I was trying to claim for delay to my journey during December- this was after the snow and cancelled flights at Heathrow.
Their policy wording is terrible and misleading. I have been writing to their customer service department. They have now changed their mind and are allowing me to at least claim- they basically give contradictory advice and have been a nightmare!
I would not recommend them to anyone. I am looking... (read more)

Family member was unable to get to Gatwick due to weather delays in December. Halifax insurance clearly stated in their brochure that failure of public transport was covered. Many attempts were made to get to the airport after BA cancelled the connection which was originally for the day before departure. Rebooking was cancelled, leaving no time to get there other than the sleeper, which by then was fully booked. There was an exclusion clause that basically stated that they would refund your... Do not under any circumstances use Halifax Travel Insurance, at the time of writing my claim is at the 2nd stage of complaint, i don't expect to get paid out.
After 17 weeks Halifax are still asking for information that i sent them at the start of my claim, everytime you phone or write they change the information they need, they lie and try every trick in the book to avoid paying.
And as for the customer service, forget it, never spoken to such rude people in my life.
Only giving one... (read more)

Absolute waste of time, money and effort. Rude and promised to ring back on many occasions and did not. Took 3 months and mountains of paperwork to tell me my £1300 claim was only worth £332 minus £50 excess per person, totalling £182!! I was flabbergasted to say the least as well as disgusted. What can you do? They have so many amendments and clauses its not worth paper it's written on... (read more)

In February 2010 my holiday to Madrid was cancelled due to strike. The airline refunded me the flight costs, but not my pre-booked hotel. I therefore turned to Halifax for a refund. First they told me on the phone that I was not entiteled to compensation because I "did not have my boardning pass", which was a simple way to try to dissuade me to follow my case. I then wrote to them. Halifax still claimed that strike was not covered, despite the fact their policy booklet state the opposite (in... (read more)

We had to cancel a two week holiday last September due to my husband's illness. Ten months later we have finally received a cheque for a quarter of the amount we claimed. I have written to complain but as yet have not had a reply. This insurance is not worth the paper it is written on. Please be warned if you rely on travel insurance provided by your bank account. Delay after delay...Halifax kept asking for further and more information following my mother's death. Yet another form arrived three months after the event and still no satisfaction. Now they want a hospital consultant's report on my mother's death - and all this because I am claiming for an emergency return trip and cancelled holiday. What a farce...when it comes to renewal we shall be heading somewhere else. (read more)

I have been insured with Halifax Travel Insurance since February 2008. My renewal has just arrived. Halifax have changed underwriters from St. Andrews Insurance plc to First Assist. I declared a pre-existing medical condition to Halifax for my current cover -ischaemic heart disease ( a heart attack 7 years ago) - and they were able to insure me for an extra £70.
When I declared the same condition for my renewal the new underwriters were unwilling to insure me for any heart... (read more)
