“A really aggressive experience for travellers”

Lets overlook the general grubbiness of this airport and the humourless jobsworths who run the security checks. This airport has a highly aggressive policy towards travellers and their families/staff who collect/drop them off at departures or arrivals. Recently this has got much worse when the airport has ceased its drop-off facility and allowed cost-free drop-off to occur only via the mid-term car-park bus service. “Shameful Experience”

Our Departure was pretty faultless as it was 06:00 pm and everything was running to plan got dropped off right outside and was checked in less than 10 Mins. The Shopping experience was mediocre with the best bargains in the HMV Shop everywhere else was overpriced and best avoided. The return was efficient a very speedy transit from flight through baggage and customs had us in the main concourse 20 mins ahead of our pickup! in recent snow no help for stranded passengers,,IE EXTRA SEATING for stranded passengers.OR EVENA FREE cup of cofee or tea.Many old people or parents with stranded with kids no given any help with seating or basic needs. Also why are they charging £1.oo for a plastic bag for security cant be for green reasons as they haver a throw away plastic ball. Staff are not that politesome are almost rude. Quite nice European airport. However, there are many things that should be improved. As it is served by low cost airlines I didn't mind that the services are not so good. But still you couldn't compare it with Heathrow at all. (read more)

London Stansted is a phenomenal airport. I fly from there nearly all the time as it's so good and also because it's the biggest base of my favourite airline, Ryanair, which I fly nearly all the time. Stansted is very easy to get to as it's located right by junction 8 of the M11 motorway and has regular buses to the car parks surrounding the airport and to central London and regular trains from the airport terminal to London Liverpool street and Birmingham New street. There must be two Stansteds on this planet. The one I've used is dirty with stale air, filthy toilets, overpriced food outlets and mile-long queues for everything from check in to security.
<br/>On return it's even worse with the longest queues for passport control I've ever seen and at least an hours wait for the baggage to turn up.

I used Stansted again recently, I flew at the busiest time for departures (around 07:00) so it was busier than usual. It took 15 minutes to check-in (about what I'd expect) and security took less than 10 minutes (quicker than I'd expect). On return, passport control took only 5 minutes (much quicker than I'd expect) and bags were already on belt when we got through, like most times. The toilets were spotless and the terminal immaculate as always, so I really don't know which other Stansted YOU are refering to!

Very poor customer service. I have used this airport many times to travel and found it very unorganised and staff is fed up with travellers asking for help. Very disappointing, try to avoid. (read more)

You couldn't have been to the same Stansted airport as the rest of us! I would rate is 5* for everything. Certainly the best airport in London, infact in Britain.

Stansted Airport is a brilliant airport. I have never had any problems with flying from there, infact I fly from there nearly always now because I like it so much. Out of all the times I've travelled from Stansted, which is alot of times, I've never had a long queue for sercurity or passport control and even at busy times the queues for security are no more than 15 minutes. I found this review very helpful because I have a similar experience at Stansted Airport. Transportation from the Stansted is very fast and effective in terms of other UK Airports. Though Heathrow and Luton are in the same category but you'll never forget your experience at Stansted.

I am very very pleased with the amount of help and guidiance I've had from one of the security workers at Stansted Airport. When I took my niece to the airport she felt so sick and worried about not understanding the train system and language. Her being anorexic she couldn't sleep the night before. On the day of traveling she refused to eat and drink and looked very of colour. After checking her luggage in she had to go through the security were I was shouting over to her in the quewe in... I have flown from Stansted five or six times now and picked up a friend once. Whatever your doing it's very efficient and quick! Also the baggage reclaim belt is better than at most airports because your bags come out the hole in the middle and spin around the belt without going back outside (I hate it when they go back out again, especially if it's raining!) I highly recommend Stansted airport even if you live 100 miles from it. I nearly always fly from Stansted and I live 90 or 95 miles... (read more)

I fly from Stansted airport very regularly not because it is the closest to me, Luton and Heathrow and possibly Gatwick are closer. I fly from there so often because of the great facilities and staff. Because of this I really do hope that the expansion plans for a second runway and terminal and for Stansted to handle more than 65 million passengers a year do go ahead! (read more)

I totally agree with this review, Stansted is by far the best airport. But I don't want the expansion to go ahead, I think it would ruin Stansted. I would like it to grow to about 30 million passengers a year (it's currently only about 22 or 23 million) but not 65 million, we don't need another Heathrow in the UK.

Me and my friend were to flew out from Stansted for our first time on Monday 25th August 2008. We came back on 29th August and I had a gut feeling the airport was going to be poor. But yet again I was wrong! The airport was really easy to get to and the terminal is great in every way, it's not to crowded and the layout is brilliant! I recommend Stansted airport to everyone because queues move fast and the security only takes 10 minutes! The shops and eating facilities were great and so were the transport links! Stansted airport is brilliant because it has excellent transport links. The airport offers a wide amount and variety of different shops and eating facilities. The staff at Stansted were very friendly and helpful. One of the best parts is that the queues move pretty swiftly so there is plenty of time to get a bite to eat or look around the shops! At the beginning of July I came back to Stansted Airport from Krakow in Poland and I saw the new terminal expansion! It was great because there is more space and a sixth baggage reclaim belt which makes baggage reclaim quicker than before. In December 2008 there will be more shops and more comfortable waiting areas making Stansted even better! (read more)

Close to M11 motorway which gives easy access to the airport terminal. Plenty of toilets around the airport and an excellent amount of shops and eating and drinking facilities. Security moved at a reasonable speed (15-20 minutes). Excellent airport with fantastic flights, food, shops and transport links all around the country. (read more)

An interesting airport building made with glass which means plenty of natural light instead of a normal boring terminal building with lots of ceiling lights! There are comfortable seats in the departure lounge and plenty of them you and your family/ friends can sit together quite easily. Good food and easy to find departure gates. (read more)

I think Stansted is brilliant!!! The layout of the airport and gates is very simple! I have flown to/from there 4 times. My first time flying from there was in 2005. I thought it was Very Comfortable lots of space to move around and had extremely clean toilets and the Terminal building is spotless! My fourth time at Stansted in February 2008 everything was just as good as the first time but improved by faster security, bus service which was great, bags on luggage belt within the first 15-20... Bishop Stortford Football Club Parking Association or BSSPARK dented my car while parked at their secure site, we pointed out damage on leaving to the person identified as site manager at the time who admitted liability but failed to give any written acknowledgement but gave a phone and name who never returned calls and denies written notification. The local press have reported that Bishops Stortford football club airport car parking and bus service to the airport is subject to many planning appeals by the local authority as it does not have permission. Apparently the only authorised car parks are the ones on airport.
<br/>Speaking to people at the airport we heard horror stories of people handing their keys over to unauthorised operators who parked them in fields and some people who had returned from holiday with an extra 3000 miles on their clock.

I disagree with this review because Stansted is a brilliant airport and the ratings are better than 1/10. Transport links are excellent and so are the shops and eating facilities! It dose NOT take ages to retrieve your car!!!

I found this review unhelpful because you never said anything about the airport. You said your car got damaged but you didn't say what food or shops were like. And as Stansted being one of the largest airports in Europe, it is obvious that there are shops and eating facilities.

Totally agree, aggressive parking tactics, there was nothing wrong with being able to drop off...all good airports allow this. Will avoid in future
