Iwas persuaded to buy cards by the staff at my local post office in Oakham. As a result I was given a number of cards containg a number of thousand dollars that I am told I cannot access without providing a bank statement--difficult when I am 3000 miles from home. Not sure why this should be since they have my money? I would advise you to bring cash or try another card. (read more)

I purchased this card for use in the USA. At first it worked fine and then on each of four separate occasions towards the end of my holiday the payments were declined, very embarrassing in a restaurant having eaten meals. I now find myself back home with $95 stuck on the card. DO NOT RELY ON THIS CARD. Fortunately I had a backup card, otherwise there would have been lots of washing up to do! (read more)

From my own experience I would say give this card a wide berth. I got one for my son, it worked fine the first time he used, but on the next occasion 2 days later was declined, despite having £150+ credit on it. When I called Clydesdale Bank was told they "randomly block cards as pert of their security policy, as sometimes they like to instigate further identity checks for no particular reason"!!! I explained that my teenage son was away from home with no other access to money and I had... (read more)

This was the first time we have had a Post Office travel Money card. We used it in France and Spain at first without any problems. We were unable to find out the balance from Spanish ATMs but we had an idea of how much we had spent. DO NOT GET A CARD.....I was talked into getting a Travel Card when I went to the local Post Office in August to buY Euros. Was told by a woman there that it was FREE to take out cash from ATM and this would be cheaper than my debit card. Loaded it up with 600 Euros on the strength of what she said.....used it TWICE lucklily only twice. Have just discovered that I was charged 8 euros to use an ATM. Phoned customer services to remind me of my pin to discover this. Then transferred to a live person to be told that it was in the terms and conditions......well I got a flier from the post office when I got a prepaid card......no mention of that. Oh well its because you converted euros to sterling and then back to euros....huh? I got EUROS from the ATM. I am going to lodge a complaint. The smallprint which I have picked up from the Post Office today says nothing about that. It is better and cheaper to use your current account debit card. Also I asked for a statement .....the first person I spoke to said there were none and the second more helpful woman said you can register your card online and see your transactions. Did that logged out tried to log in again ......not possible and locked out. JUST AVOID THIS CARD.

I was talked into getting a Post Office Travel Money card by the woman in my local post office last August when I went in to buy Euros as I noramlly did. Her English is bad anyway and she said I could use ATM's in Spain for free. I thought good tht is cheaper then using my debit card so stupidly I loaded it up with 600 euros.
I only used it a few times and only now in December have I discovered the charges one usage at an ATM incurred - 8 euros 60. I found this out when I rang the 0844 no to ask for my pin which I had forgotten. I am shocked and asked for a statement to be told no. Only by being transferred di I discover I could register online and see statements. Customer services bleated after I complained about this excessive charge that they were in the terms and conditions and I replied I saw no terms and conditions when I loaded up my card but took the word of the post office assistant. Apparently I was charged for converting sterling to euros .......I thought that was the whole point of the card!! I am going to make a complaint cos I don't see why the Post Office should get away with this. I will avoid that post office in future......lying outright to customers is a new low for them.

Oh I do so agree, we took Post Office cards last year. In our resort in Mallorca the only Bank to acceept them wasa the Deutchasbank, not one other, including Barclays would regognise them. When the German banks ATM went down half way through our holiday, for a week we were in a mess, and I had to go use my Visa card anyway which made me very overdrawn. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and use them again this year. On September 14th I paid over £1000, £700 on one caOrd and £300 on the other in Haywards Heath, West Sussex P.O. When I got home I discovered that I could not remember the pin number I had used last time so phoned the help line, then it started. I was told that the cards had both been cancelled, and the money could not be put on them. Why then was the money accepted. "dont know" !! "well I need my £1000 back ASAP, I am travelling in two days time. No they could not possibly do that, it takes at least 72 hours. After 1 hour on the 'phone and speaking to two supervisers, who both told me something different, and repeated the same script over and over again, but did agree to put it through as urgent to the finan ce dept. No, we could not have the number for financ e, they do not make or take telephone calls at all ! "well, it is my money and I want it back PLEASE!" yes we would get it back when they had gone through procedures ! well, don't they have computers in Scotland ? Yes we will get our money back, when they find it. Find it ! they only just GOT it. We went on holiday using Credit cards, spent hours in and out of Internet Cafes checking Bank statements. Nothing ! on September 24th £700 appearedpress in my account. At last. We returned on September 30th, started the calls again, no sign of the other £300, rang them again and again. Same story, you will get your money, when we find it. Well where the Hell has it gone, not our department we don'tknow, and so it goes on. It is now October the 4th, and still no £300. The say we will get a call when they find it. We are pensionerts, we are not impressed, and next step will be a letter to the Press.
Trading standards, our MP, and in the end I suppose legal advice. I would advise ev eryone in the UK, NEVER NEVER use Post Office Travel Cards. Use anything, ev en take cash with you but do not trust this Organisation. I thinbk in the end they will owe me interest.
Disgusted
