“TERRIBLE - UNRELIABLE (AND EXPENSIVE)”

Written on: 26/03/2017 by postofficetravelcardsuckssobad (1 review written)

If I could give this ZERO STARS, I would. I have it for a big trip in South America. The main problem is that IT DOES NOT WORK in most retail card payment machines (shops, restaurants, transport, tour agents). It gives an error saying "invalid parameter size". It does not work in about 75% of these places. It's so stressful because you can't rely on being able to pay by card. You have to make sure you have enough cash just in case. And, even though in principle you can withdraw £300… Read Full Review

Put Thai baht on card in uk In Thailand it withdraws as sterling so you end up paying exchange rates twice. Customer services usual following script and saying i must have withdrawn as sterling.. then saying you need to use a machine that accepts MasterCard.(Bangkok Bank issues MasterCard) Find alternative… Read Full Review

“ID verification nightmare”

Written on: 20/03/2017 by yzMontgomery398 (1 review written)

I had a dreadful experience just trying to sign up with their new multi currency card. Even though I produced the requested id documents at the post office counter, I could not activate the card when I got home. The call centre insisted I send scanned copies as well but kept rejecting them because of minor format errors (can't see all four corners, fuzzy picture blah blah...despite also having my DL). After 10 calls I asked for my money back (which they had no problem taking off me during the… Read Full Review

“Post Office Travel Money Card. Robber Xchange Rate...”

Written on: 10/03/2017 by JeromeMorse (1 review written)

The exact polar opposite of bank-busting rates more like customer-busting rates. If you fall for all the marketing on this and enjoy a legalised mugging by criminal banks with unbelievably poor exchange rates +extra charges... hours on the phone with registration codes, just to find out the days buyback rate - this is the card for you. If you love wasting precious lifetime trying to log into the forced online account with Orwellian layers and layers of digital bureaucracy, pass codes, PIN… Read Full Review

“ATM Charges rip off”

Written on: 10/03/2017 by 497Flores (1 review written)

I purchased a post office travel card to travel to Australia, the card was ok to use in shops and restaurants and only found a couple of shops would not take it. I decided to take some money from the ATM machine this one was the NAZ bank these don't inform you of the balance and any charges that are additional to the 3 dollar charge for cash, I was charged a conversion exchange rate and additional charge for the cash totalling 23.84 dollars I only found out these charges when I checked online… Read Full Review

“Unbelievebly poor service”

Written on: 08/03/2017 by User20 (1 review written)

The Post Office Travel Money Card I should have known the post office would give poor service but this has been beyond a joke. I'll skip the app not working properly and then refusing to speak to me to sort it even though I purchased and filled up the card for my son who is abroad. They can only speak to my son who has to pay to call them on a UK number from the USA sucking his funds dry while he goes through the wait and automated service. If you lose your card and have no money to call… Read Full Review

“PO customer services are a time wasting moribund...”

Written on: 27/02/2017 by Joey201 (1 review written)

If you find your time has been wasted unreasonably or the standard of service given to you has been indifferent it may also be worth considering a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman service. There's no guarantee that they can resolve every complaint but they do listen carefully and try to cut through the bureaucratic muddle… Read Full Review

“The biggest calamity ever”

Written on: 10/02/2017 by 214Coleman (1 review written)

After activating my card I travelled to South Africa on holiday. The card has been refused everywhere I presented it. When I've contacted Royal Mail support, the 16 digit long number on the card isn't even recognised. I'm stranded in Cape Town without money and they aim to get back to me within 7 working days. Brilliant!! Never trust Royal Mail. They're an absolute disgrace… Read Full Review

“Poor customer experience”

Written on: 16/12/2016

This is a single currency pre-paid card, you lose out on money at the point of top-up (foreign exchange fees) and unless you get back to zero balance you lose what is left when you stop using it (a £5 fee is charged to get any money back). The format is outdated. Pre-paid cards exist now in multiple currencies with zero foreign exchange fees (you get the perfect inter-bank exchange rate) and no fees to transfer the remaining money elsewhere. See for example Revolut card… Read Full Review

Validated my card in the post office, registered card online. Top up card with 200 pound and used the card, then my card was declined, top up my card with 500 pound but my card decline again. CS informed me my card was blocked, due to the fact I had to send in my driving license, utility bill and bank statement to show the transfer of 500 pound. “Obsolete notes provided ”

Written on: 14/11/2016 by NathanialBeebe275 (1 review written)

I purchased a small amount of Swedish Krona from the Winchester branch (Parchment Street WH Smith). When I arrived in Sweden I found I had been given obsolete 50 Kr notes - slightly embarrassing but not the end of the world. However, when I went to return them they refused to exchange them even though I had the receipt and the same lady served me. In effect, they have taken my money and given me useless scraps of paper in return. After about an hour in the Post Office on Sunday (a waste of my… Read Full Review

“Would not recommend post office travel money card.”

Written on: 29/10/2016 by Goodman5 (1 review written)

I purchased a card from my local post office putting $100 on to start with, then my plan was to put all my money on when I had registered the card online, as the rate was better. So I activated the card via text, no problem I got pin and thought great easy. I then went online to register the card and transfer my money onto it. That's when it all went wrong. I entered the card number, security number, my date of birth and finally my access code which is supplied with your card and which I had… Read Full Review

“Shocking Service - All Holiday Money Not Accessible”

Written on: 14/10/2016 by TheWilts (1 review written)

Word of warning to anyone getting a Post Office travel Money card. We loaded our card with our holiday money and first day or so no problems with the card. I went shopping o get food for the family and the card was rejected, bearing n mind I had just used it in two other shops 20 minutes prior to this. They tried the card 3 more time with the same error of not being able to validate the card. I checked the balance and funds were fully available so something was wrong. Having to leave the… Read Full Review

Opinionatedme's Response to Neil5's Review

Written on: 06/12/2016

Interested to read this review as my husband and I - who have separate PO Travel Money Cards - have just returned from a long trip to Malta. Our cards worked fine for payments and withdrawing money from ATMs (we've never had a problem using them abroad) but when we each tried to check our balances via SMS we couldn't. We rang the PO from Malta and ran through the process, they couldn't find a problem at their end but the situation wasn't resolved. We didn't dare try to top up via SMS - which always works fine in the UK - in case there was a "gremlin" in the system. Luckily we had enough money to last the trip. Once back in the UK the SMS worked fine so I've just rung the PO again for help as we'll be travelling again shortly. They said they couldn't help because I wasn't phoning from abroad (!!!!) and suggested I use the app to top up next time. I said I thought it was just for iphones and Android but the lady insisted it worked with all devices, even our Windows smart phones......it doesn't! Left feeling as though I've wasted my time flagging up this problem, which matters to us as we don't like putting in passwords, etc.to top up our cards on our netbook using public WiFi and the SMS option is ideal and is heavily "sold" by the PO to customers.

“Very disappointed ”

Written on: 13/10/2016 by Muirgk326 (1 review written)

Took my money card to Italy. Was declined twice, so was wary of using again. Had to rely on family for support. I assumed I had not registered properly, so when returned to uk reregistered (not an easy task) then assumed I could redeem money via my account on line, not the case. When I eventually found the correct phone number and went through the whole gamut of pressing menu after menu got through to a human being. I assumed the money would be redeemed to my card that I purchased from, but no… Read Full Review
