“unuseable - money wasted”

Written on: 25/08/2015 by claret (1 review written)

Travel Money Card - complicated set up, doesn't work abroad, can't get money back in UK. Got travel money card for my daughter for her trip to France as she was too young for credit card. Post office confirmed could use everywhere just like a debit or credit card. Thought I would be able to check balance and load up remotely if needed. She put her holiday savings on it. In France it was constantly refused - as her main source of money this was real problem for her and she had to borrow from… Read Full Review

“would not recomment”

Written on: 17/08/2015 by Aliya496 (1 review written)

Bought a card for our holiday in Turkey just in case we needed extra to the cash we had taken. We did not need the Euros on the card so came to cash it in, queued in PO for 20 mins, then told I had to go to ATM. ATM only delivers in multiples of £10 so called the help line when I got home to be told I should not have been told to withdraw at ATM. the remainder can be cashed at PO with a letter, e-mail or text all of which will take 15 working day to be received and of the £10 remaining on… Read Full Review

“The Post Office Travel Money Card”

Written on: 01/08/2015 by Badge80 (1 review written)

My issue is brief though very frustrating and frankly appalling from what we deem a reputable company. I know feel my complaint needs to be highlighted in every means possible to warn everyone what to expect. Today I make a purchase on the post office website for the travel money card. The purchase was simple, £250 worth of euros. I commence the ordering and click confirm to verified visa. Page throws me back and tells me to try later as there was an issue. I try again later and order goes… Read Full Review

“What are small denominations?”

Written on: 24/07/2015

Order €3000 and asked for small denominations thinking I'd get 5,10 or twenty notes - full amount came in €50 - when I queried it was told take or leave- would never order from there again regardless of rate. Poor poor customer service… Read Full Review

“Terrible service. Cancelled our transaction last minute”

Written on: 21/07/2015 by gavinsearle (1 review written)

Terrible service. How could they cancel our transaction the day before we left? Utterly unbelievable. I simply could't recommend them just because they could spring this on anyone and with no comeback. Now what am I supposed to do, I have no time to order from another broker. I would seek out someone else more reliable. Appalling and disappointing… Read Full Review

“NOT SO SIMPLE & STRAIGHTFORWARD”

Written on: 17/07/2015 by Aarav366 (1 review written)

Made to sound so easy in our local post office, so we took 2 cards to Madeira( 6th-16th July) one each for my husband & myself. Both cards were Euro Mastercards, unfortunately not everywhere accepted them which was embarrassing to say the least. As we couldn't use them as we thought we have quite a lot of money left on them ( over 500 euro's on the one card alone). We had been told that we could go back onto our branch with the cards on return, but "oh no", we had to ring customer services for… Read Full Review

“Its Happening Right Now”

Written on: 13/07/2015 by BarryWaldock (1 review written)

I am in Italy at this moment in time and cant use one of my cards. I registered 2 cards with the maximum £750 on each, both obtained at the same time. Yesterday, the 12th July both did not work. I phoned up early AM and was informed one card is in someone else's name and not registered at my address. Reluctantly they generously activated the correct detailed card and asked for my passport to be emailed to them as proof of ID to get card 2 going, this I did last night. Today they email me back… Read Full Review

“You will not travel very far with this card !”

Written on: 13/07/2015 by Tackerboy (1 review written)

Purchased this "dynamic" card in early June 2015, when it arrived card was already too late to activate on line (?) so attempted to activate etc via the telephone. Too confussing and difficult for me, in the end i cancelled it and requested my money back - a month later still waiting...apparently the Post Office had incorrect details of my bank account ???? So after four calls and lots of waiting for the refund - its hardly confidence building........ MORE LIKE THE LAST POST. Waste of… Read Full Review

“Useless Travel Money Card App”

Written on: 27/06/2015

Tried to use the app for 3 weeks last year on holiday in Italy. I was always locked out despite telephone calls complaining. On return from holiday wrote to the Post Office and complained. No improvement. Today I tried again, still locked out. Complained by phone, advised to uninstall app and reinstall and try again. I did all that, still locked out. Very worrying when you cannot manage your finances on holiday. There is nothing to commend this app… Read Full Review

“Lack of trust in card always same excuse pin incorrect”

Written on: 29/05/2015 by LukasLucas (1 review written)

On two occasions now in two separate countries I have had trouble with my euro card. Both times rejected this last time I have a print out saying incorrect pin when I have rang the post office customer service line . this is the standard excuse they use every time. I have two receipts saying pin ok card declined so pin cannot be entered incorrect. I also checked the pin and made sure card was ok before I went on holiday this time . I have now closed the account and had to pay £5 to get it… Read Full Review

“Ripped Off Redeeming Unsused Funds!”

Written on: 28/05/2015 by Kenny200 (1 review written)

Use with Caution! I have used the PO Euro Travel Money card in the past in order to save currency conversion charges in shops and restaurants etc and found it useful. After returning, I have tended to leave any unused funds on the card for another Euro trip. So if used that way it has been fine. However, I recently used another PO Travel Money card for a trip to Australia to gain these same benefits. When I returned I had over $700 unused dollars on my card. As I wouldn't be returning to… Read Full Review

“EXPENSIVE!!”

Written on: 28/05/2015 by Henrynp376 (1 review written)

As others have said expensive to use with hidden costs, would avoid if possible. Travel cards are not a bad option if you cant get credit cards but this one is not the one to use. The extra feature of charging to refund any additional money left on the card is an insult… Read Full Review

“What a rip off The Post Office money card”

Written on: 21/05/2015 by 115Beachroad (1 review written)

It cost £11 to open it.I put £750 sterling on it to take to Thailand. Each time I used an ATM there it charged me 5percent plus £3.60 .I had £38.86p left on it when I returned to England.I tried to get this out of an ATM inEngland but no joy.I took it to the post office still no joy. They told me to ring the help line an0844 number. It would have cost a fortune to phone an 0844 number. To close the acc would cost £7.50 .I made a complaint to The Post Office in an E. Mail. They said they would… Read Full Review

Sickofscams69's Response to 115Beachroad's Review

Written on: 21/05/2015

Presume you mean they charge you 5 percent on the FX. I've seen this in Thailand. The real rate is 50-1. Cash and travellers cheques in the local booths will be 49.5 or better. The post office money card would be at 47.5. I also heard they charge on purchases. Better to bring a cash or stick to your visa debit or credit card

“Excellent, but download the app”

Written on: 19/05/2015 by Leticia194 (1 review written)

I ordered one of these for our roadtrip around America and was planning on loading all our money onto it. I then got a little wary reading all the reviews and took half cash and loaded a little bit onto the card. To be honest, i wish i had loaded it all on the card. this was great, the only place it didn't work was when we were trying to spend the last few dollars at the airport on the way home. I would recommend downloading the app and using free hotel wifi to check your balance... if the… Read Full Review

You told us nothing that describes value for money. Only you can get money out on it. Was the FX rate particularly attractive. Did it have a set up cost. Why didn't you use your own visa debit card or a travellers cheque?

“Stranded”

Written on: 14/05/2015 by JonasWren355 (1 review written)

Please don't use a post office travel card!!! It definitely isn't the safest way to take your money abroad. Whilst in Barcelona my daughter attempted to withdraw her money, the card was accepted at the machine and ejected, only no cash appeared. After many many phone calls, trips to the bank they refused to give her a refund, explaining they would have to investigate further!! So as she was only on a four day trip she had to borrow money from her friends. She returned home, attempted lots… Read Full Review

“Drove me up the wall........”

Written on: 09/05/2015 by Casey7 (1 review written)

Easy to put money onto the card, but just wait until you try and get money out of an ATM or log on to your account online - it's an absolute night mare with three levels of security before you even use your PIN to withdraw cash. Overly complicated to use and with hidden costs which meant that I would have been better sticking to my debit card all along as the costs in terms of charges and/or commission were a bit lower… Read Full Review

“funds available but card refused”

Written on: 02/05/2015 by pzDalrymple53 (1 review written)

Took card on recent visit to USA. Card was refused on several occasions despite funds available - apparently there is a limit to number of transactions allowed - which I was not make aware of and can find no trace of this on website - stay well clear of this card. The worst thing is I have returned with 300$ on card as I could not use it and am being offered a ridiculous exchange rate to redeem this in sterling… Read Full Review

“Took 2 months to change address”

Written on: 25/04/2015 by Brittany9 (1 review written)

Do not get. Awkward to use, as it is not clear what the limit is on how much you can take out of the ATM, and there is a charge of 2 Euro every time. And if you change address it will be a nightmare to get this done. Your emails and phone calls involve different people every time, who don't keep proper notes; they require a string of documents to prove that you have moved. Dreadful service. Don't go anywhere near it. Thomas Cook's card seems a better option, and there i may go once i get my… Read Full Review

“Mostly Useless”

Written on: 03/04/2015 by NicolasCoppola64 (1 review written)

This card has caused me numerous problems whilst living in the US. A lot of places don't accept it as payment and a lot of ATMs decline it. Online payment compatibility is very limited and additionally you cannot move money out of this account into a different one which is very infuriating unless you request for them to send the money to you via post which takes 15 days. They also have the nerve to add $2.50 in ATM fees every time a withdrawal is made which usually means you need to withdraw… Read Full Review
