“Total embarrassment!”

Written on: 13/10/2014 by Joycetm289 (1 review written)

Bought PO Travel card for our stay in New York. Intended to pay our hotel bill but the card was refused. Very embarrassing for us as we were recalled to reception frequently over this. We rang the help-line from New York which was complicated, expensive and of little use. We had intended to top up the card in order to pay restaurants, etc. but daren't risk it. We used our Visa card and incurred the associated charges. When we got home we discovered that eventually the hotel had been paid twice… Read Full Review

“The Humble Travelcard”

Written on: 06/10/2014 by saljane13 (1 review written)

Bought one for my daughter to go travelling in her gap year! We found we were only given partially correct advice at the post office when we purchased the card as a result * The card was initially blocked because she already had a card registered at a previous address. It is in the fine print! So no money! * No one would speak initially to a distraught parent. So time elapsed * Once cleared the card was not then upgraded. To upgrade the card proof of identity in the form of a passport and… Read Full Review

“AVOID”

Written on: 24/09/2014 by 64Caldwell (1 review written)

I purchased a card in the post office and they made a mistake with my address. This meant I was unable to top-up my card online or on the phone. The next few days were hell just trying to get the post office to change my address. I spoke to 5 different people and a supervisor, all gave me different information. The card was useless abroad as I could not top it up after they promised they would, the helpline is 0844 number and goes on for so long before you get to an adviser! Very inflexible… Read Full Review

“Don't waste your time! ”

Written on: 20/09/2014 by davies53 (1 review written)

Had this card last year, topped it up & had absolutely no problems using it. This year however, we only took half our money in cash as we thought it would be safer, towards the last 3 days of our holiday we decided to withdraw the full amount off the card. Went to the bank, put the card in & the machine swallowed it up. The bank then told us that the providers of the card had Infact blocked the card however since I had topped it up before we left I thought it was pretty obvious we were going to… Read Full Review

“buyer beware”

Written on: 19/09/2014 by AliyahSnyder (1 review written)

Think very carefully before purchasing these cards. Myself and partner purchased 3 cards in Euro's as we thought it was safer than using credit or debit cards abroad. The first time we tried to withdraw money only one card worked so we still ended up using debit cards. On return to the UK i went through the lengthy process of changing the passwords but still one card would not work. I have been through another lengthy process to reclaim the balances from the 3 cards and have no choice but to… Read Full Review

“declined only once .useful tips”

Written on: 18/09/2014

had a travel card for petrol as we did 2000 miles through europe. we ended up using it in france, germany and belgium and it was declined only once. in france you cannot use it on unmanned petrol stations or tolls. the stations are usually: * in france, the stations have some pumps for credit cards and some for cash - go to the pump where there is a sign showing a card with a cross through it. if you are not sure, just try the nozzle - if nothing comes out then either find the 'cash' pump or… Read Full Review

Written on: 13/09/2014 by Corap80 (1 review written)

I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews. I have a limit of £6000 which I never use, load it up either the post office or online before we go. Used it in many bars, restaurants and ATM's. However I have only used it in Spain so cannot comment on other countries… Read Full Review

“Do not bother with this card.”

Written on: 10/09/2014 by Cahillmi87 (1 review written)

Having used this card a couple of times in Portugal I tried to use it in Belgium, couldn't use it at petrol station as they aren't online. I have asked to have the balance refunded, to do this I have to wait 15 days before I get a letter which I have to take to a Post Office with ID to receive cash refund. Come on PO join the 21st Century, why can't you refund back to the registered debit card I used to top it up in the first place! The app is a nightmare, the cookie policy keeps appearing out… Read Full Review

“What a frustrating waste of time”

Written on: 07/09/2014

I've had a travel money card for several years but only used it for one trip, and then only using it to withdraw cash from at ATM with no problems. Just before my most recent trip I decided to use it again, also this time in conjunction with the Android app. After repeatedly contacting customer service for password resets (customer service is first class, answer promptly, very helpful so no complaint there) I got my card working. Three days before departure I checked my card was still ok only… Read Full Review

“Absolutely Shocking!!!”

Written on: 05/09/2014 by nathanjanman (1 review written)

I went to China for 4 weeks, the exchange rate and fees from my bank were worse than the post office so I chose to have the travel money card plus. Worst idea ever!! After taking Chinese Yuan in cash as well as the card, obviously I needed to withdraw money from, tried twice and the ATM timed out (biggest bank in China) so it's not the ATM that was faulty, as I then managed to withdraw a little bit money. Basically it had taken money from my account but not allowed the money to come out of the… Read Full Review

“The worst thing to rely on for your holiday ever. ”

Written on: 04/09/2014 by Maame38 (1 review written)

I got one of these for my trip to the US. I was able to load it up at the post office when I first got it, and was able to register the card, yet when I got to the US, I couldn't log in to check my balance or top-up. For the week I as there the log-in page was totally unavailable, and here is no chat facility to speak to someone for free, they expect you to make expensive calls back home just to speak to someone about the problem. Don't waste your time on this product… Read Full Review

“Don't waste your time! ”

Written on: 31/08/2014 by 438Fletcher (1 review written)

Firstly, I was told in store that I could put up to £5000 worth of dollars onto the travel card once registered. This wasn't possible. I had to send off many forms of proof of identity to get the card upgraded which took a week to process. Once it was supposedly upgraded I still couldn't put money onto the card! It was only after many calls to my bank and customer services that I was able to do so. Then - once I landed in Australia I was charged 40 dollars on top of the 3 dollars expected just… Read Full Review

“Unreliable product & poor customer service from Post...”

Written on: 20/08/2014 by 480Ewing (1 review written)

Do not use this product. Shops, restaurants and vendors in Europe reserve the right not to accept the Post Office Money Card. I loaded money onto one of these after being assured by the Post Office that everywhere in Europe accepts them. "It's just like a credit card" I was told. I was abroad for three weeks. After a week of being told "im sorry we don't accept those types of cards" I decided to withdraw all of the cash from it at a cash point, since it was problematic to rely on other people… Read Full Review

“Do not get this card”

Written on: 18/08/2014 by Johnny111 (1 review written)

I went into the post office to get Euros for my holiday to Greece. The guy recommended I take out a Post Office Pre Paid credit card as it was "free." I liked the idea of checking my balance and topping it up online while away. I tried accessing my balance online using my ID & password. It didnt work.Eventually It locked me out & I had to call the postoffice to reset it. That didnt work either. In the end I could only use it for withdrawlas at the ATM as I was afraid to use it for meals as I… Read Full Review

When taking out card wasn't told it was a basic card and I needed to upgrade it when received. Loaded £600 at time then loaded another £500 no problem. Next day received text message from post office to contact them I rang and was told I could only load maximum of £750 and they would give me the money back that I had gone over by . Was told it would take 3 days, when I hadn't receive the funds I rang again and was told it takes upto 5 days but if I paid £21 they could do it straight away. 5… Read Full Review

“Card well for me abroad”

Written on: 11/08/2014 by Kason178 (1 review written)

I have no idea what other people are doing with their PO Euro cards, because ours worked flawlessly whilst abroad for 18 days in France and Spain. I used it I about 20 different places in both countries. We purchased fast food, bought car tyres, toys, paid for meals and hotels. The only 2 times the card was refused was for lack of funds or at the French road toll stations (no PIN code pad, which is a prerequisite for this card). Loading via the app worked well, too. But keep in mind that it… Read Full Review

“Excellent. ”

Written on: 10/08/2014 by Timmyo (1 review written)

We ordered two cards to take to South Africa and after reading the reviews were very apprehensive. However we have used our cards in restaurants and garages and all sorts of places and it has never been refused. Today we withdrew cash, it's the same as at home using the ATM. Very simple to use and safe. Before I left home I downloaded the app. What a great tool. It automatically gives you your current balance even if all the transactions are not al shown. If you use it as it should be used then… Read Full Review

My son in law used this card in spain to withdraw money at the same atm we used with our travelex card free
He was charged 43 euros for each withdrawal with the post office card. He had 1200 euros on the card but only did 3 draw outs of 300 each and on the 4th time was told no funds remaining
If you call that well done p o then thats a charge of 200+ euros NO THANKS , will be reporting this to the FOS and watch dog!! To stop this company ripping poeple off.

“Don't bother with a post office travel card”

Written on: 05/08/2014 by Nickidavies (1 review written)

I wish I had read these reviews before sending my 19 year old daughter travelling alone to Australia with one. It is declined in pretty much every establishment she attempts to use it, she has had to find a trusted ATM and withdraw all of her cash. She has now exceeded her top up limit (which when purchased we were told that this is automatically lifted when registered) In order to get this lifted she has had to provide further ID even though this was provided on purchase. She has finally… Read Full Review
