I've had my "Morphy Richards 47505 Roma Pump" machine for well over five years now and it's still producing amazing coffee.
It's a very well built machine, especially considering that it only cost £99 when I bought it and had a 2 year warranty. These days they are all made from plastic for that price.
The pump is your standard Italian-made 15bar unit and is a little noisy, but more than sufficient with regards to pressure. The boiler is sturdy and steams up really fast for almost instant coffee making, and the steam attachment works very well.
It weighs a tonne as you can imagine (it's all metal), and the water tank is a good size. Drip tray is large, but coffee left inside will erode the metal (be warned). Comes with portafilters, filter holder, coffee measure, froth nozzle, but no jug!
Be careful as some pre-ground espresso will block it (such as Illy). Best to grind coffee yourself. Easy to use, easy to clean, good looking, simple and a great price. Shame they don't make it anymore.

I love my 47505, and I will continue to love it for many years to come.

I got through three of these machines under warranty - the first leaked from the water resevoir; the second one cracked near the group head and spraying steam everywhere; the third was fine until last week - now it too is spraying coffee/steam mixture around the room. Very dangerous! Other reviews suggest this is a systemic problem of poor build quality.

There is really no serious complaint I can make about this machine. You can get better, fancier machines for sure, but you'd be paying a couple of hundred pounds more for them. This one wins hands down for value for money.

Since my original review I have had to have my machine replaced as the machine was just not performing. I have to say Morphy Richards after sales service was excellent they replaced the machine without any problems at all. I have had the new machine for quite some number of months and although it is performing better than the old one it is not performing at a satisfactory enough standard. The shots are pouring at about 13 - 15 seconds which is way too fast, the crema is too light indicating the ...

A standard espresso size is 2.5 ounces for a double shot so the size is not an issue as far as I am concerned i.e. it doesn't take mugs because it is not designed to. The Roma is an espresso machine. In saying that though the shot should take between 24 and 28 seconds to pour and should come out like "honey". This I can say mine doesn't. To pour a single shot takes about 10 seconds at the slowest, which leaves the coffee thin and without sufficient cream. I am experimenting with grind at the mom ...

Was given this Morphy Richards 47505 Roma coffee machine as a present, happily used it for two years or so. Then the rubber seal in the filter housing developed a leak. Spare parts dealers do not carry that. Email request to Morphy Richards customer service went unanswered for a week, then I got a reply "assuring you of our best attention at all times" and stating that the part could not be got. A few more messages to and fro establish that "because the machine is made in the far east we cannot ...

I read all the reviews before settling on the Morphy Richards 47505 Roma Coffee machine. I only have one cup of coffee a day, so it has to be a really good one. I like latte and cappuccino, so I did my homework and found you need an excellent espresso base for these coffees. I wanted a machine with 15 bar and not too expensive. The average retail price for this machine is £99 - £105, but I found it brand new at electricshopping.com for only £69. The warming plate is something ...

I bought this Morphy Richards 47505 Roma espresso coffee maker in November 2003. It is a good looking machine and produces some excellent coffee, and has a two year guarantee.

Unfortunately, The pump is not the most resilient.
I am currently (January 2005) using my third replacement machine and now that has broken, same problem. I can give Morphy Richards yet another call and I'm sure they will send me yet another replacement but I am of the opinion now that I don't want a Roma coffee maker ...

We bought a Morphy Richards 47505 Roma on the basis of reviews on this site, but were hesitant after reading the first review (stating coffee not hot enough). We rate ourselves as quite fussy and have found no problem with taste or temperature. Only had it 1 week and would not be without it.

I switched to the Morphy Richards 47505 Roma after happily using a Morphy Richards filter espresso maker. Big mistake. The largest quantity of coffee that the Roma can make at one go is 2 espresso cups - or one normal coffee mug. And look at the size of the machine? Then the coffee needs microwaving in the cup to make it hot. Have now switched to a stovetop aluminium espresso maker. Double the size, a quarter of the price - and the coffee is hot!

Morphy Richards 47505 Roma - This is an excellent machine, bought one 7 months ago from Makro for only £49.99+vat, what a bargain!!! The quality is superb for the money, built from solid stainless steel, much better than other machines that cost twice the price! The coffee produced is excellent with a good crema thanks to the 15 bar pump. This machine features an external removable cold water tank, removable drip tray, steam wand, 50mm dual outlet group head with 2 filter baskets 7 & 14 gr ...

Like one of the previous reviewers, I bought Morphy Richards Coffee & Espresso Machine on the strength of earlier reviews here. I love a good espresso and my daughters love cappucino and, after having been less than impressed with a traditional stove top coffee maker, I opted for the MR 47505 Roma.

Don't let anyone convince you to spend ££££££ on a Gaggia. If you are only looking for 1 or 2 cups at a time, this machine does the business. The crema is perfe ...

I bought a 47505 Roma a few months ago on the strength of one of the reviews I read here -- and I can honestly say that I haven't regretted the purchase at all. The machine is easy to use and clean, and the coffee tastes great. We use the machine every day and even took it on holiday with us recently so we wouldn't be parted from it! A small tip: put a decent amount of water in the reservoir (i.e. not just above the minimum level) to generate really nice "crema" (if that's how you spell it) on t ...

Morphy Richards 47505 Roma, pump coffee maker - I refuse to drink instant coffee and am quite fussy when it comes to the "real" stuff. Had been looking for ages for a machine to make lovely frothy cappuchinos. Bought this one and have absolutely no regrets. It gets used several times each day and always produces wonderful, full flavour coffee with smashing frothy milk on the top. Highly recommended - it is a good value pump action machine. Go get one!

Morphy Richards 47505 - I visit Italy a lot and have got used to using my friend's Gaggia (£350). So I decided to get a machine myself.

I read the other review and decided to bid on one at eBay and got it for £50. After 2 weeks it developed a minor fault and I rang Morphy Richards for help. I was very pleasantly surprised when, without any promptig, they offered to echange the machine. BTW the fault turned out to be hard water.

I am now the proud owner of a new nachine and it i ...

I researched coffee machines for two weeks before buying this one. It seems Gaggia is what most people want, but I had a look at them and if you've owned anything Italian (mechanical) youll understand me when I say it looks thrown together, you know something is going to break, but you dont know what or when! and most reviewers who have owned one said they go rusty without constant maintenance.
There are also plenty of plastic machines available and I was surprised to find a top manufacturer in ...
