“Really good value and service”

★★★★☆

written by Kirbyvp256 on 29/05/2016

I've been a member for a while - use their Winebank service and personal wine expert service. I've had very few bottles i didnt like, much more frequently have discovered some hidden gems that i reorder time and again. Their pricing is competitive and customer service excellent.

“Lovely wine”

★★★★☆

written by ikerslake on 06/11/2012

I've just tried my first bottle after a groupon voucher purchase (on the understanding that I have now joined the winebank) and thought it was lovely. I've just used another voucher and bought a further case (now discovery wines/3 months) so we're stocked up for christmas- we're really looking forward to trying them. I easily buy a bottle of wine per week from the supermarket, which is the equivalent to a case every 3 months and I'd much rather this which is undoubtedly better quality for a similar price.

“Is anyone going to review the quality of the wine?!”

★★★★☆

written by thdrake on 29/05/2012

Fantastic Wine :) It annoys me that all the reviews on here are basically by people who were expecting wine for free! Well, the world doesn't work like that, especially the world revolving around groupon. With any offer, everyone knows that you're probably signed up to go on to some kind of membership. Amazon Prime, etc, etc. I join Virgin wines because I had a £40 voucher, and yes, I was signed up to a rolling contract, which I immediately cancelled. I was then contacted by email by someone who said obviously "we're sorry to see you leave the Discovery Club, but we know it's not for everyone" Then proceeded to explain the Wine Bank scheme, where you pay in however much you want each month into an account, they then add 20% to that for free, bargain! then you buy wine whenever you want. This is one of the best wine clubs about, the customer service in my opinion is fantastic, and I feel sorry for them having to deal with morons who can't read what they're signing up to. To reiterate where I began, every wine I've had from here has been a cut above similarly priced supermarket plonk, yeah there aren't any £4.99 bottles, but if you want nasty cheap wine, I hear Adsa do 3 bottles for a tenner!! "Life's to short to drink cheap wine"

I have and accepted having every 3 months re orders HOWEVER I did not expect a crate to turn up unsolicited, without any choice of wines OR to just turn up when we was on holiday !!

That is wrong and could have been illegal as my grandson was only 15 UNDER 18 !! and was looking after our home with our son whilst we was on holiday, thankfully he refused to accept the crate.

No choice and a hefty bill with wines selected which Virgin Wines believed I might want.

THAT IS WRONG END OF!!!

“Seem to be some very unhappy campers on here?”

★★★★☆

written by anthonyprime on 29/03/2012

OK, to start, no one gets anything for nothing in life. Virgin Wines (whoever owns them) are a business not a wine charity. All those who are bleating about being hoodwinked into joining "a club" should really consider why they assumed anyone would sell them half price wine? If the can't accept that then I have a lovely piece of marshland in southern Spain that I'm looking to sell to build a golf course on. Before I placed my first order I read the small print and decide it didn't look to onerous - and it hasn't been. I've been a member for just over a year now. In that time I've had 3 boxes from them and declined the offer of another 2 (emails received around 2 weeks before despatch and never a murmur when I decline them). The wines generally have been good to very good perhaps in the three cases I've had 2 or 3 bottles that didn't really do it for me, but I could say the same pulling my own choice from the shelf at Sainsburys. Also, the call centre are open to discussing discounts for bulk so if you do find a few that you like and are prepared to commit to a case they're more than happy to discuss a better price with you than the website per bottle. My value for money score represents prices after that conversation. Of course, it may be that I've just been very lucky each time I've dealt with them, but I have to say the weight of reviews on here don't reflect what I've seen and experienced.

“Oh dear everybody...”

Does 'read the T&Cs' never occur to any of you lot?! The Amazon voucher very clearly stated that you would be joining the wine CLUB. Not only was it emphasised beforehand that this means a regular delivery every 3 months ish, but they send you an email well in advance of every delivery that clearly states that you should just give them a ring if you don't want it this time round. Virgin Wines' customer service is fantastic. When I call to cancel a delivery there are no questions asked, we had a problem with a delivery not showing up and they immediately got on the case and called me back after interviewing the delivery driver to discuss what had happened - very apologetic and I genuinely felt they cared about it. This certainly isn't a scam - there's no such thing as a free lunch after all! - and when you clicked 'I have read and understand the terms and conditions', I'm afraid you authorised them to withdraw £96 from your account every three months. I hope this is a lesson learned for everybody...

Thank you for your feedback. Very simply, our signup offers give you a chance to try our wines and at a great introductory price. Once you have enjoyed the first case you can then make the decision if you would like future selections. I can assure you that there is no obligation and you can cancel at any time.

Many thanks,

“Virgin sales tactics and deceptive practice”

★★★★☆

written by on 28/02/2012

i ordered in november while abroad via groupon voucher. i could not redeem due to location, so my wife did. delivered great value. Now in february thay have taken some 89.00 from her account without notice. There is no complaint procedure - only circular references bringing you back to home page. This is deceptive practice by Virgin sales staff and dishonest. This is 2nd incident of money theft with a virgin company (leisure formerly esport) in 3 months. absolutely disgusted that complaints receive no response.

So why the 4 stars?? I have received nothing but horrible service from this club. If it were possible I would rate it a negative 4 stars!!

“I'm really happy with Virgin Wines!”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/11/2011

I've been a Virgin Wines WineBank customer for a few years now. I have to admit I became a customer through a supposed 'Free £40 Wine' offer when switching energy suppliers but I will always go for a box of 12 wines for £40! I questioned the inclusion in the WineBank scheme but as I could cancel at anytime without losing I continued. I now only buy my wine from Virgin Wines, mostly now using the Auction scheme which I only recently discovered and have had some fantastic wines at the lowest prices I have ever paid. So much better than anything you will get at the supermarket for a comparable price, taking into account the WineBank Interest I get. I get 33% which I believe isn't available now. You only seem to get 25% so maybe no longer as good a deal for new customers. Never had a problem with what has been delivered. Some wines better than others but very rarely bad, mostly good. I know what I like and I know how to judge them form the website information which I find very good. Not many wines at supermarkets that taste as good.

I have had no problems with winebank. I order a case every 3 months and because of the interest paid by wine bank I feel I can try a couple of bottles to see what they are like and if I don't like them it hasn't cost me anything. The delivery's have been within a couple of days and always delivered safely. any queries have been dealt with promptly and without problems. I have enjoyed most of the wines that I have had especially the reds. Sometimes I have a premixed case and sometimes I choose 12 bottles myself. I treat it as a fun way to learn about wine.

I'm really impressed with the quality of wine - was in the Times Four Seasons club for years and the Virgin wines i've had so far were much better, for around the same price. The guarantees are excellent - if you don't like a bottle they will refund you, if it gets left outside your property but gets pinched they will replace free of charge etc.

written by weeblondie on 29/11/2007

Virgin Wines has a very good website, I'm a wine bank member and find that it saves me money.

Normally I'd spend 25 a month on wine easy. This way, I put in 20 each month to the bank and every three months they also put in 20 which means that after 3 months I get 80 to spend on wine.

Super idea.

Plus the added benefit of getting top quality boutique wines instead of the generic vinegar type wine you'd find in the supermarket.Love it.

You get a good choice of wines at Virgin Wines. If you call, they answer very quickly and agent is always helpful or able to put you through to someone who is. Wine advisor service fantastic. Online shop very clear and easy to navigate. Good site, been using them for years and never had any big issues. Once they even informed me that my wine as going to be late, before I even questioned it!

Virgin wines offer quality wines at excellent prices. You need to allow time to learn which ones you like and which you don't but after a couple of boxes we have found a few full bodied reds that we really enjoy. They do a discovery club which we tried for a few months but we found that it was too hit and miss to keep running.

You can use it however note that you will automatically be enrolled in their wine club. Meaning regularly (3months or so) you will receive a case of wines which will be charged ~£100 each. So it's important if you don't want to be a member to contact them and let them know to remove you from the wine club after you've used the voucher.

I suggest you use it as kindling for a fire. The hassle of overcoming underhand and aggresive Virgin marketing tactics make it a waste. Trust me.

My mother used a money off voucher for a box of wine to be delivered to myself for my 40th birthday as she could not be with me to celebrate, due to battling cancer for the second time. I live in Scotland and she she lives in England. The other day a box of Virgin wine was delivered to me in Scotland, nearly three months after the last one, my mother in England who cannot drink, I assume has joined or ticked a box, and has been charged money which has been taken out of her account, but delivered to me. How do I return the unwanted unopened box of wine? Please help my mother is under a lot of stress and I live 500 miles away.

Unfortunately you will need to call them and arrange for them to uplift it. Be prepared for a very hard sell unless they have changed their bad practices. They may not even speak to you as it was your mother that ordered the wine originally and "contracted" with them. I seem to recall they refused to uplift the wine and I ended up having to send it back & get stung for £20 postage. (You can get cheaper couriers to uplift online now). You may end up being best to write a letter on your mothers behalf returning wine. Ensure you cancel her membership (Which she wont know about as it is hidden). They will offer to exchange the wine, or give you £20 off - anything but take it back! Good luck!!

I have one of your £50 Christmas 2013 Vouchers. Although I'm not encouraged by the customer feedback and reviews on this site I am interested to know what the next step is. Voucher says "Claim your £50" at the website address I am now using. But on the site there's nothing said about how to claim. Am I registering for something or ordering at this stage? I tried calling the phone number a few days ago but the line had closed for the day and of course it's another of those premium rate lines! Some advice would be welcome please?
